Emilia Perez deserves the acclaim. Unconventional story, yes, but it’s the unconventional storytelling that dazzled me.

Musical or Comedy??
[quote]Paxton finds a chamber full of emaciated women in cages, locked with the bike lock she used before entering Reed's house. She realizes Reed's conclusion: that a desire to control others is the root of all religions. Paxton stabs Reed with a letter opener, but Reed stabs her as she tries to escape. As they bleed in the basement, Paxton prays, telling Reed that it is done to show kindness to others rather than to produce material results. Reed prepares to finish her off, but Barnes, who was still alive, kills him with a plank of wood before dying.

Comedy? Musical??
[quote]Igor takes Ani back to New York to pack up her belongings. They spend a final night in the Zakharov mansion, where they exchange genuine conversation, including Igor admitting that the day prior was his birthday. In the morning, Igor gives Ani the money Toros promised her and drives her home. Before dropping her off, he returns Ani's wedding ring as a token of goodwill. Moved by the gesture, she briefly initiates sex with Igor but resists when he attempts to kiss her, before breaking down sobbing in his arms.

Why is this thread so dead?

The Critics Choice noms were vastly superior.
They only gave the Bear one nom. It’s not a comedy!

Why are they still allowing The Bear to be nominated as a comedy? I understand that the first year the producers nominated it in that category because they knew it had no chance of beating Succession in its real category. I understand that it has always been up to the producers to determine what category their show should be in. But at this point you'd hope the voters would refuse to nominate it at all if it's known to be only in the Comedy category out of cynicism.
Not that I can understand why anyone would nominate its last season for anything at all. Biggest non-event on streaming.

Why was Demi Moore nominated in the Musical or Comedy category? The Substance is a drama/horror film. Definitely not a comedy or musical.

I bet Jamie Lee Curtis is pissed she didn't get nominated for The Last Showgirl.

I'll tell you who's pissed...ME!
My pivotal performance in the Menendez Brothers movie was completely ignored!

Yeah, The Substance is not a comedy even though I laughed at some of the “ElisaSue” moments in the final act.
That category is also way more competitive this year than Drama is. Not sure what the thought process was for entering her here.
That said, I think she will confidently receive her first Oscar nomination next month.

Ridley Scott wasn't nominated? How the mighty have fallen. Alien is one of the best movies ever made so he'll always have that satisfaction.

Too bad Kaitlin Olson wasn’t nominated for High Potential. She’s fantastic on that show.

I haven't seen Substance since I'm squeamish but I've liked her in many movies, Mortal Thoughts comes to mind first. I'll be rooting for her. She was the highest paid actress during the 90s and by the sound of it, she's still got it.

I am rooting for Billy Bob Thornton

The writer's strike fucked things up. We didn't get a whole lot this year except for tv stuff that was already in the can. I've yet to see any of the movies. I can't vote here yet.
