by Anonymousreply 1December 9, 2024 1:51 PM

Given that there are so few worthy contenders I think that's true OP

by Anonymousreply 2December 9, 2024 1:54 PM

Happy for Cooper Koch.

by Anonymousreply 3December 9, 2024 2:00 PM

Happy for Pam Anderson though I haven’t seen the movie

by Anonymousreply 4December 9, 2024 2:03 PM

Congrats to Cooper Koch. Much deserved

by Anonymousreply 5December 9, 2024 2:15 PM

Interesting to have The Substance as a comedy. I mean, I guess?

by Anonymousreply 6December 9, 2024 2:16 PM

I hope Demi and Pam win. Fuck that rancid cunt Cynthia!

That Mr. & Mrs. Smith was nominated for TV show is a testament to what a woke mess awards can be, that show is horrendous.

Has JadaPS commented and complained yet that the nominees weren’t 100% black?

by Anonymousreply 7December 9, 2024 2:16 PM

Xanax Zendaya as best actress???? Hahahahahah 🤣🤭😆😂

by Anonymousreply 8December 9, 2024 2:17 PM

R6 many in my theater laughed at times

by Anonymousreply 9December 9, 2024 2:18 PM

The Substance was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. So edgy, so shocking, so fresh...not

by Anonymousreply 10December 9, 2024 2:20 PM

Glad Emilia Perez and A Real Pain got lots of nominations.

by Anonymousreply 11December 9, 2024 2:21 PM

In other words, everybody gets nominated and gets a participation trophy.

by Anonymousreply 12December 9, 2024 2:43 PM

Double nom for Stan!

by Anonymousreply 13December 9, 2024 2:52 PM

Isn’t the Demi Moore film a sci-fi thriller. How the hell is it a comedy. The golden globes did this before. I can’t remember the other films. Putting sci-fi films in the comedy/musical category. It’s fucking idiotic. Because they want all those nominees for prestige dramas and they don’t want the slots eaten up. I hate idiocy.

by Anonymousreply 14December 9, 2024 2:56 PM

Zendaya in Challengers is not a fucking comedy and obviously not a musical. Why are these dramatic performances in the comedic category. It makes no fucking sense.

by Anonymousreply 15December 9, 2024 2:58 PM

Why is Challengers a musical or comedy? Is that the only way it could get nominated?

by Anonymousreply 16December 9, 2024 2:58 PM

Culkin and Zaldana should play fair and square and complete in lead where they belong!

by Anonymousreply 17December 9, 2024 2:59 PM

I meant Saldana. Egregious category fraud!

by Anonymousreply 18December 9, 2024 3:01 PM

Silly Bingo game. It was nice when the Globes were cancelled.

by Anonymousreply 19December 9, 2024 3:01 PM

R19: Please like they'd permanently cancel any event where they can get drunk, stroke each other's egos, and have cameras shoved in their faces.

[quote]Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama

I thought only SAG did "Female Actor"?

Frankly, "Actress" sounds much better; classier.

by Anonymousreply 21December 9, 2024 3:08 PM

Emilia Perez was such a massive flop. It couldn't even get in the Top 10 movies on Netflix in the US or globally. Pretty much every new movie on Netflix can make it to the top 10 list, but not this stinker.

by Anonymousreply 22December 9, 2024 3:41 PM

So glad Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong got noms for "The Apprentice". And I predicted it right here on DL!

by Anonymousreply 23December 9, 2024 3:44 PM

What about the shnubsh and shurprishesh??

by Anonymousreply 24December 9, 2024 3:47 PM

The Substance very much had comedic elements to it.

by Anonymousreply 25December 9, 2024 3:51 PM

Who would have guessed such a thing, R23!

by Anonymousreply 26December 9, 2024 3:57 PM

R22 😂

by Anonymousreply 27December 9, 2024 3:59 PM

[quote] Emilia Perez was such a massive flop. It couldn't even get in the Top 10 movies on Netflix in the US or globally. Pretty much every new movie on Netflix can make it to the top 10 list, but not this stinker.

It's actually one of the best movies I've seen this year. Being a musical with an unusual story live, it will have a tough time finding an audience. Hopefully, these award noms will help. It deserves a wider audience.

by Anonymousreply 28December 9, 2024 4:06 PM

[quote] The Substance very much had comedic elements to it.

It had ridiculous elements but it was definitely a horror movie.

by Anonymousreply 29December 9, 2024 4:12 PM

Horror Comedy.

by Anonymousreply 30December 9, 2024 4:15 PM

I think they're trying to get around the stigma of it being horror by labelling it as a comedy. Horror does not get nominated or win, but psychological thrillers do (Silence of the Lambs, Seven, Psycho, Rosemary's Baby, Misery). Or it has to be fantasy like The Shape of Water.

by Anonymousreply 31December 9, 2024 4:20 PM

Marianne Jean-Baptiste won the NY and LA film critics awards for Best Actress/performance this weekend and didn’t make the cut here.

by Anonymousreply 32December 9, 2024 4:22 PM

Yeah no Marianne Jean-Baptiste or Danielle Deadwyler stands out to me in these nominations.

I don't get all the Emilia Perez love, but I guess it isn't surprising. Selena Gomez was terrible in that movie if we are being honest.

by Anonymousreply 33December 9, 2024 4:27 PM

Cooper deserved the nomination. He was amazing in “The Hurt Man”. A phenomenal episode with a phenomenal performance.

by Anonymousreply 34December 9, 2024 4:27 PM

R33 the mainstream awards always have some different nominations than the small awards and critics awards

by Anonymousreply 35December 9, 2024 4:28 PM

They snubbed Nicholas Chavez. A pox on the house of G.G.

by Anonymousreply 36December 9, 2024 4:33 PM

It was barely a snub. Please. His stans are so fucking delusional.

by Anonymousreply 37December 9, 2024 4:34 PM

They snubbed Streep but she was barely in the last season of OMITB.

Also snubbed: the directors of Wicked, Gladiator II and Dune 2.

by Anonymousreply 38December 9, 2024 4:39 PM

How did the Golden Globes manage to make a comeback? I thought they were all but left for dead a couple years ago.

by Anonymousreply 39December 9, 2024 4:48 PM

[quote]Marianne Jean-Baptiste won the NY and LA film critics awards for Best Actress/performance this weekend and didn’t make the cut here.

[quote]Yeah no Marianne Jean-Baptiste or Danielle Deadwyler stands out to me in these nominations.

I have a feeling Marianne Jean-Baptiste will still be in the final five come Oscar time.

Glad for Demi Moore, Pamela Anderson and (especially) Isabella Rosolini.

by Anonymousreply 40December 9, 2024 4:48 PM

^Sorry, Rossellini.

by Anonymousreply 41December 9, 2024 4:49 PM

Leaving off Gladiator 2 is not a snub r38. It does not deserve any directing awards. Or any awards outside of Denzel who was the only bright spot of that movie...

by Anonymousreply 42December 9, 2024 4:52 PM

R40: I agree I think MJB will get in. The Oscar nominations will not mirror the Globes. Praying that Daniel Craig and Sebastian Stan get in as well.

by Anonymousreply 43December 9, 2024 4:56 PM

[quote]Glad for Demi Moore, Pamela Anderson and (especially) Isabella Rosolini.

Isn't she into for like three minutes?

by Anonymousreply 44December 9, 2024 5:08 PM

MJB is a horrible actress. One trick pony.

by Anonymousreply 45December 9, 2024 5:19 PM

Most actors are one trick ponies r45. . They have a certain range and bag of tricks they excel at, never stops them for getting rewarded for that bag of tricks

by Anonymousreply 46December 9, 2024 5:47 PM

Micro aggression alert:

Morris Chestnut mispronounced the name of Cynthia Erivo during this morning's announcements.

Literal violence!

by Anonymousreply 47December 9, 2024 6:04 PM

by Anonymousreply 48December 9, 2024 6:07 PM

Sebastian Stan doesn’t deserve the nomination

by Anonymousreply 49December 9, 2024 7:20 PM

^^^^^^Trump

by Anonymousreply 50December 9, 2024 7:23 PM

Whatever, the nominations don't matter as surely the highlight of that evening will be Viola Davis's Cecil B. DeMille award speech.

by Anonymousreply 51December 9, 2024 7:26 PM

Selena Gomez is a double Nominee, good for her. Shes had some tough luck over the past years

by Anonymousreply 52December 9, 2024 7:31 PM

The 5 Oscar Actress nominees will be Erivo, Kidman, Madison, Gascon, and most likely Jolie, with a possibility of Demi sneaking in there but I think AJ has the final slot locked up. Jean-Baptiste is a wild card, is Hard Truths a Mike Leigh film?

Surprised the GG nominating committee passed over Ridley and Gladiator II. That kind of spectacle film used to be right up their alley. I think it will come done to Fiennes vs. Craig for Actor, with Brody running second.

by Anonymousreply 53December 9, 2024 7:35 PM

Did the Globes pass over Daniel Craig for Queer, the best film performance of the year? If so, shit like that makes the Globes have no credibility.

by Anonymousreply 54December 9, 2024 7:37 PM

I never miss a Demi Moore musical!

by Anonymousreply 55December 9, 2024 8:02 PM

RALPH FIENNES (CONCLAVE)

SEBASTIAN STAN (THE APPRENTICE)

by Anonymousreply 56December 9, 2024 8:06 PM

So sick of waxface Kidman

by Anonymousreply 57December 9, 2024 8:10 PM

I am too r57, but she never stops working and nearly always puts in great performances, in sometimes risky projects. Credit where its due. She could be coasting off her massive fame and selling skin or haircare, like a lot of her peers.

by Anonymousreply 58December 9, 2024 8:15 PM

Kidman would likely be the only nominee from her film. Erivo and Madison and maybe Moore may be the only that are close to locks at the Oscars. The rest will be fighting for the other 2 slots.

I think Adrian Brody has his second Oscar almost wrapped up.

Supporting categories are wildcards but a lot of category fraud.

by Anonymousreply 59December 9, 2024 8:39 PM

Being the only nominee from a film is not ideal for Kidman but it’s been done before. Still Alice made 87 cents but Julianne Moore won because it was her “turn.”

by Anonymousreply 60December 9, 2024 8:41 PM

R58, she IS hawking skincare, though. She does ads for Neutrogena and also shills for other companies like AMC Theaters

by Anonymousreply 61December 9, 2024 8:43 PM

I hate those Kidman AMC promos.

Daniel Craig deserves all the awards for his performance in Queer.

We know most of these twink loving DL queens are nutting over TIMAAAY’s nomination. 🙄

by Anonymousreply 62December 9, 2024 8:57 PM

Zendaya nomination is a joke.

by Anonymousreply 63December 9, 2024 8:58 PM

R63: I'm shocked she got in. I get that she's a star or whatever but the movie was a total bomb.

by Anonymousreply 64December 9, 2024 10:27 PM

The movie didn’t bomb.

by Anonymousreply 65December 9, 2024 10:29 PM

by Anonymousreply 71December 10, 2024 1:07 AM

by Anonymousreply 75December 10, 2024 2:02 AM

Oh no Glenn did not get in for Supporting. Remember the buzz she had a few months ago for The Deliverance?

by Anonymousreply 76December 10, 2024 2:02 AM

[Quote] isn't she into for like three minutes?

[Quote] And Isabella Rossellini mainly spends those three minutes in Conclave grimacing. But she grimaces very we

Anyone who actually saw Conclave knows that Isabella's role is substantial and far exceeds 3 minutes. It's nothing like Beatrice Straight who's in Network for 5 minutes.

by Anonymousreply 77December 10, 2024 2:11 AM

I saw Conclave and Isabella’s role was a lot of nothing. She grimaces and is supposed to be wise because she’s a nun. See those dumb priests can’t fool her. I like the actress but her part was meh.

by Anonymousreply 78December 10, 2024 2:15 AM

If EEAAO can win Best Picture, The Substance can get into the final 5 - 10 lineup.

Rossellini is in Conclave for seven minutes but she is so good and unlike most of the best supporting actress contenders this year, she actually belongs in the category.

by Anonymousreply 79December 10, 2024 2:16 AM

Her role is far from "substantial" r77. Rossellini is in the movie for seven minutes and 51-seconds.

by Anonymousreply 80December 10, 2024 2:19 AM

Her role is... supporting.

by Anonymousreply 81December 10, 2024 2:24 AM

Hence her being nominated for Supporting

by Anonymousreply 82December 10, 2024 2:28 AM

Angelina Jolie for 'Maria." Best Actress!

by Anonymousreply 83December 10, 2024 2:46 AM

Did Cynthia hand out expensive watches?

by Anonymousreply 84December 10, 2024 2:52 AM

I haven't seen Conclave but Ralph Fiennes is long overdue for an Oscar. He's always excellent.

by Anonymousreply 85December 10, 2024 2:57 AM

R80 Anthony Hopkins, who gave one of the most iconic performances of the 1990s as the chilling cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs, was awarded for just 16 minutes of screen time. And he won for Best Actor!

Rossellini is in the supporting category and her role was substantial in terms of the film

Female directors

Last year, both Greta Gerwig (“Barbie”) and Celine Song (“Past Lives”) made the best-director lineup, and this year’s list of six includes Payal Kapadia for the delicate Indian drama “All We Imagine as Light” and Coralie Fargeat for the body-horror comedy “The Substance.” Both triumphed over the better-funded but snubbed Jon M. Chu (“Wicked”) and Denis Villeneuve (“Dune: Part Two”).

by Anonymousreply 97December 10, 2024 10:09 PM

R97 CHALLENGERS was definitely a flop!

It had a budget of $55 million and grossed $96 million total ($50 million domestic, $45 million foreign).

Thus, it did not even recoup nor make a profit.

by Anonymousreply 98December 11, 2024 5:15 AM

You neglected to mention that LAMBS was among the Top 10 grossers of 1991 and became a pop cultural phenomenon by the end of the year (movie was released in February).

That's also why Hopkins was able to get nominated and win in lead even though he was initially campaigned in supporting early in the awards season.

If Clarice were a *male* FBI trainee, no one would consider Hopkins a co-lead, just like no one thinks of Brian Cox's Hannibal as a co-lead to William Petersen in MANHUNTER (1986).

[quote]Apparently anything that doesn’t tell the story of straight white males is “woke."

You know damn well that "woke" means far-left/radical and they tend to be anti-men, anti-white, anti-America, anti-police, anti-beauty, anti-masculinity in boys, anti-femininity in girls, anti-women (when it comes to the trans issue), anti-biology (when it comes to the trans issue), anti-tradition in general.

"Woke" movies/shows exhibit several or all of the above.
