Tasteful Friends: A rather surprising before and after

I'll post the after version first. A boring ranch style in equally boring Camarillo, CA (at least since the state mental hospital closed). Some of our Tasteful Friends are probably wondering WTF I posted this non-descrpit on the inside and outside "home." Or is it?

Overlook the some of the generic furnishings and the gray and take a look at the small hints. Any guesses what the owners were up to in the house? If you have a guess post it before reading the next part.

I'm not quite sure how the other photos slipped into the initial Redfin listing or whether the seller and realtor wanted the pics in the listing. 😅 Anyway...

Enjoy!

I'm guessing what that listing is calling the "BDSM Basement" is actually the garage space. I've never seen construction of that era built on a slab accommodate a basement.

by Anonymousreply 2December 9, 2024 12:31 PM

It's really, really nice.

1.) Horrible floor plan

2.) Straight swingers with a medical fetish (alternatively, vampire transfusionists)

3.) Not for me

by Anonymousreply 4December 9, 2024 2:34 PM

I hope they removed the nacreous layers of permacum.

by Anonymousreply 5December 9, 2024 6:42 PM

Just love the BDSM beds!

by Anonymousreply 6December 9, 2024 8:35 PM

I thought it was a doctors office

Address records provide the name of the owner and you can then find him as the owner of a business called "Fantasy Suites."

The business designs and builds "Erotic Intimacy Spaces" advertising "From Romantic Bedrooms to Adult Playrooms to BDSM Dungeons -- your Fantasy Suite will be absolutely YOU."

[QUOTE]PLEASE NOTE: Fantasy Suites does not directly operate erotic spaces for rent or purchase.

Interesting. People had assumed it was a porn studio. Some of those are some damn cheesey erotic spaces with cheap furnishings and accessories from Ross or Marshall's

[QUOTE]Fantasy Suites is based in Denver, CO, and can work anywhere in the U.S.

Camarillo must be the satellite office.

by Anonymousreply 9December 9, 2024 10:40 PM

Paul and Joanne did it in Wesport

R9 A little more research shows, that the Camarillo site must be some kind of joint venture.

On their Facebook page, The Fantasy Suites (Colorado) people refer to the designer in Camarillo as an "owner" who does custom work, but he's also run his own similar business known as "Ayala Customs." You can see some of the stuff seen in the real estate listing in the photos at his website.

I wonder if they have an option to use a room decorated like the former state mental asylum in Camarillo.

by Anonymousreply 12December 10, 2024 2:17 AM

The whole place just seems depressing.

by Anonymousreply 13December 10, 2024 2:29 AM

That IS Camarillo!

by Anonymousreply 14December 10, 2024 2:35 AM

The living room looks like the set where they shot twink amateur porn in the mid 2000’s

by Anonymousreply 15December 10, 2024 2:40 AM

I always think of Frank Zappa's "Camarillo Brillo".

by Anonymousreply 16December 10, 2024 2:42 AM

Marshall’s level.

by Anonymousreply 17December 10, 2024 2:44 AM

Ugh - you know these homeowners aren't the taught, worked-out body types.

They're seeking spice and life through sex because the rest of their lives are limited and boring.

There are a lot of gays who are like this as well.

by Anonymousreply 18December 10, 2024 5:00 AM

Horribly furnished abd those tole floors needs lots of rugs.

by Anonymousreply 19December 10, 2024 8:50 AM

The next obvious question: Is $900K too steep for the area, or are the owners trying to play up features to a niche audience? I can't imagine a small 3 BR in ranch style going for so much in such a godforesaken area.

by Anonymousreply 20December 10, 2024 9:12 AM

I hate literally EVERYTHING about this house and I don’t know where to start.

by Anonymousreply 21December 10, 2024 9:23 AM

Thought it was an abortion clinic......then the penny dropped.

by Anonymousreply 22December 10, 2024 9:39 AM

That’s Camarillo for you.

I used to go there for work. It’s like the fucking Twilight Zone. Incredibly seedy with really weird crime.

Almost every person I encountered there appeared to be profoundly mentally ill and most are morbidly obese, tatted up MAGATS. Everyone seems to have a raging addiction of some kind (pills and/or booze.)

There’s a contingent of fat housewives. 4 or more kids is the norm. The fat housewives sashay around, imitating the upper middle class versions of themselves but failing miserably.

It’s also— inexplicably— really expensive for what you get. Shitty schools, high crime.

by Anonymousreply 23December 10, 2024 9:40 AM

R23 - It's probably the legacy of the state mental hospital if patients were furloughed or released into the community, stayed, and reproduced. It closed in 1997. Reminds me of the book Wisconsin Death Trip about similar problems and activity as Camarillo has. Black River Falls where it is set also had a mental hospital.

[QUOTE]It’s also— inexplicably— really expensive

Tell me about it! The $900K asking price is more jaw-dropping than the furnishings and decor. In Sacramento area, that house would go for half the price.

by Anonymousreply 24December 10, 2024 3:45 PM

That says less about Ventura County than it does about Sacto.

by Anonymousreply 25December 10, 2024 3:48 PM

The house looks like it would be in less savory areas of the county, r25. There are plenty of them.

by Anonymousreply 26December 10, 2024 3:58 PM

Caramillo is generic suburbia. It’s not the worst place between LA and Santa Barbara.

by Anonymousreply 27December 10, 2024 3:59 PM

R27, I’m assuming you think Oxnard is worse, but Camarillo is basically an extension of Oxnard. Same crime, same social problems, same school district for the high schools.
