All religious people are mentally ill.

A mam who looks like that who goes into the priesthood in 2024 is up to no good. I wonder how many altar boys he’s “privately counseled.”
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 9, 2024 8:15 AM |
Who cares what this religious Catholic zealot thinks or says. Unless he is gay himself, then his knowledge of this topic is essentially ZERO. He can repeat the made up statements of other people as much as he likes and he should be completely ignored.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | December 9, 2024 8:32 AM |
I've not watched the youtube video.
However, as a gay man I do believe we're born gay. I do know also that there is no scientific proof that this is the case. I can give you countless anecdotal tales of me and my friends being gay from birth, but not one of them would pass a scientific test. We might have socially accepted that being gay is something we're born with, but it's not passed the nature v nurture test as yet.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 9, 2024 8:40 AM |
One test of something being innate vs. acquired, is, does it "stick" through repeated efforts to change it? That's how we know that some people are left-handed. That is definitely not acquired. Society "rewards" right-handed people, and no one would try to train a child to be left-handed, but still, 10% or so of all children are left-handed. Think of all the numerous gay conversion methods -from camps to psychotherapy. Their success rate is miniscule. Many leaders of so called Ex-gay groups have eventually thrown in the towel and have revealed that they never lost their own gay urges.
From studies of primates, we know that many species are omnisexual - they will fuck anything that moves, but preferentially the opposite sex, and same sex mostly opportunistically. So the potential for bisexuality, or at least bisexual behavior is likely a part of homo sapiens as a species. But that is a weak driver, since society as a whole pushes strongly for heterosexual unions. In the rare societies where that is not pushed so strongly, bisexual behavior is more prevalent. However, in all societies that have been studied, there is a subset of people who will preferentially choose sexual partners of the same sex. Again, that is an indication of nature rather than nurture.

[quote]However, as a gay man I do believe we're born gay.
I also know that for me this is true R4. I was born gay and have always been gay even as a small child. I can't speak for everyone else but the vast majority of gay males which I know all say the same thing > born gay. I have never met a gay man who hasn't said they were born gay and being gay is all they remember.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 9, 2024 9:17 AM |
R5 As usual, you miss the point completely. No MRI, CT, blood test, DNA test or any kind of test has ever said "this person was born gay".
Sociological ideas might point at people (or penguins) being born gay, but we're yet to have any medical evidence of that. It hasn't happened.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 9, 2024 9:17 AM |
R7 - I just ignore everything that R5 says. He has a long history of posting completely bizarre, made up, missed the point or totally out of touch bullshit on DL. I don't even bother to read it. Who's got the time to waste on crap?
One particular gem I remember was after the initial Israeli bombings of Gaza, R5 posted that because Pride attendees in New York had been able to safety walk home after the parade - that it would be absolutely no problem and no more serious for the residents of Gaza to walk from one side of bombed out Gaza - under intense gunfire and bombs dropping all around them - to the other side of Gaza because the Pride attendees were able to walk home in New York. I'll never forget that one.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 9, 2024 9:29 AM |
R7 and no tests can show you someone was born straight
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 9, 2024 9:38 AM |
Obsessed much, r8? At the time I made that statement, the Israeli army had not yet begun widespread bombing or a ground invasion. Israel told the people in the north to move south BECAUSE they were planning to begin bombing the north in a few days along with a ground invation. I didn't say it was a good thing or easy, just that it was possible. Israel dropped hundreds of thousands of leaflets on Gaza and air warnings on October 13 and continuing. They threatened to begin ground invasions in a day or two, but actually, they didn't being full ground operations in Gaza until October 27th.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 9, 2024 9:43 AM |
r7, research left-handedness. There is also no MRI, no CT, no blood test, no DNA test to definitively say that a newborn child will be left handed. There are potential left-handeness drivers on 41 genes, and that is about where things stand with gay DNA research as well.
As with many genetic things, it appears that various surges of hormones in the mother's body can switch on or off various genes, and odds are that further research will figure out how that influences the eventual sexual orientation of a child. But it's not as though someone can "stop" that process in a human being as it is happening to examine it under a microscope. Experiments to verify that would have to be very carefully designed.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 9, 2024 9:48 AM |
I'm the opposite of obsessed R10. I specifically remember your posts in that thread (I'm probably not alone because they were so bizarre and ridiculous) and it bears nothing to what you describe in your post at R10 in this thread. Israel had already begun widespread bombing and had already begun the ground invasion. You said it was absolutely no problem for the Gazan people to make the trek over bombed out roads with buildings fallen all around them and with sniper fire and indiscriminate bombs falling. You specifically said it was exactly the same as the Pride attendees walking home in New York after the parade. No different. That's what you said.
After a few more equally ridiculous posts on other topics from you I don't even bother to read more than a line of two of your posts before I see your authenticated name and realize it's pointless to waste time on you talking talking out of your ass.
I'm sure you have have an army of sycophants who will arrive in this thread and will disagree with me and F&F me into oblivion - but that's what I think about your posting on DL over a long period of time. Do better. Stop talking out of your ass.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 9, 2024 9:55 AM |
You are the very definition of obsessed, r12. The fact that you think you remember in exact detail a post from 14 months ago and have regurgitated it on numerous threads since proves it. But your are welcome to your opinions, as I am to mine. I tend to provide evidence in the form of linked articles. I notice that you do not.

1.4% of US adults identify as being gay men, 4,1% identify as being bi. 7.2% are GLBTQ A ++++++. So the who is born that way and who adapted or made a choice ?
Among the gen z trans actually out number gay men.
It was a mental illness then societies views changed and then it was not a mental illness I’d leave well enough alone,
One question might be if it is a born that way was there something wrong that could be fixed in utero?
If the new govt wants to study this I’d be very weary

R11 You're a complete idiot, basing his ideas on future research. You don't have a leg to stand on. Did you even go to school?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 9, 2024 10:05 AM |
I was reading an interview with Adam Levine aka The hottest douchebag EVER who has a gay brother. For some reason, the issue of people being born gay came up. I'm paraphrasing but he said something like...WE knew my younger brother was gay when he was 4 or 5. So people saying people aren't born gay are full of shit.
I respected that.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 9, 2024 10:06 AM |
R7 You do realize that goes both ways, right?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 9, 2024 10:09 AM |
Whatever you say R13.
Also - I have never "regurgitated" it on any thread until this one. Not one time. You must be confusing me with other posters who think the same things about you after seeing those bizarre posts in that thread or your other posts. And that's just made up garbage about me not providing linked evidence where appropriate.
Anyway - that was all I had to say on the matter after R7 nailed your modus operandi. You seem like a good person but I just wish you would stop talking out of your ass. Do better.

Who is born gay and why?
Who is born to be a sex addict and why?
What is the relationship between being gay and being a sex addict ie lots of porn and many dozens of sex partners or a combination of?
Why is such a small % population less than 2% dominating STDs in the US?
This above , not community sweeps for camps for all gays , is IMO where the hammer will fall. Not hate not the Bible but studies into sex addictions that are not healthy.
Time will tell the next few years are going to be very interesting.

I think it makes a lot of sense.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 9, 2024 11:44 AM |
It would seem to me that the tendency for gayness to run in families suggests that there it is a genetic, inborn trait. Most gays and lesbians will say they knew they were different from a very early age. Usually only with the onset of puberty do they realize what the difference was. I will speak for most gays, I think our brains are different from, straight guys, and the differences are shared among gays. Most of us grew up in a straight world, yet we share interests and abilities with gays around the world. This suggests nature over nurture.

by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 9, 2024 1:53 PM |
I think we're born gay, but it locks in at puberty. I roll my eyes at people who say they knew they were gay at 3.
I think some gay men have the ability to ignore it, suppress it, or choose not to act on it, but that doesn't make them any less gay. It just makes those people "non-practicing homosexuals." Many gay men are in heterosexual relationships because they've made a choice.
It's not lost on the rest of us that many "non-practicing homosexuals" turn to religion in some form or the other.

I grew up near Father Mike. His sister was out of the box lesbian, but she married and had kids.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | December 9, 2024 1:56 PM |
I’ve said this before. I don’t think people are bon gay. But I don’t think anyone is born straight either. I think sexuality is the formulation of the innate need to reproduce, hormones, and lived experiences. Being gay is not bad. It just is and cannot be changed. I also think a whole lot more of us are bisexual but humanity discovered many diseases “stds” we’re linked to sex, bisexuality became frowned upon as bisexuality is linked to promiscuity. There was a time when being promiscuous was very dangerous. A very serious thing and the church needed to do something as it would have been a public health/safety hazard, what have you. You have to understand they still hadn’t discovered understand germs and stuff yet but put the link together with things as far as sex after hundreds of years of observation.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 9, 2024 2:00 PM |
People are born with their sexual orientation.
They are not born with inherent religious beliefs.
Ergo sexuality should always be placed about belief or religion.

R40 The reason why that argument never works with the religious folks who are homophobic because they actually think homosexuality is a sin just like pedophilia or alcoholism. It’s unfortunate they are so ignorant.

I don’t think people are born gay either but I don’t think there is anything wrong or unnatural about same sex attraction.
I also don’t think, as mentioned upthread, that there is anything “wrong” that “can be fixed” in utero. That’s a homophobe’s way of thinking.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | December 9, 2024 4:51 PM |
Yes, R33, I showed all the traits of being gay from a very young age.
For example, I pined for my next door male best friend and loved “playing doctor” together at age four. Our mothers caught us at it and tried to make us stop.
Had no interest whatsoever in doing the same with the two young similar-aged girls who lived on the other side (although I thoroughly enjoyed “baking” mud pies with the younger one!).
by Anonymous | reply 47 | December 9, 2024 5:07 PM |
Religious people cannot say people are born gay because that means accepting god created it. They instead refer to them as urges that you need to combat,. I am gay out the womb. I was drawing nude guys with big dicks since I was 6 or 7. I have never been attracted to a female ever and have always lusted after men.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | December 9, 2024 5:31 PM |
Religious people do realize that many babies are born with major defects. Born that way is more comforting to a religious person than thinking it’s a choice people make.
But some see it as a choice and some see it as born this way and some see it as some other way.
The fact is that we have no proof we have hope and dreams and positions we want to hold on to,
by Anonymous | reply 49 | December 9, 2024 5:40 PM |
Off topic, but I always wonder how one anonymous poster can know what another anonymous poster has posted in previous threads unrelated to the current thread. R50, nobody on DL is taking the time to block somebody and see what they said in another thread. The practice is to just randomly accuse people of having said something in another thread without any evidence. You still get the same reaction either way.

by Anonymous | reply 59 | December 9, 2024 7:10 PM |
I don't know if people are "born" gay or straight, but the opinion of some hack who claims to perform magic at the pulpit shouldn't be considered. I wouldn't blindly accept the opinion of a scientist who spent his life studying this question---hilarious that some guy is a frock thinks he can state definitively that there's evidence supporting his assertion based on the little that has been studied.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | December 9, 2024 7:38 PM |
I don't mean to derail this thread, but I'm genuinely curious about this dynamic.
R57, thanks for answering my question, but this doesn't seem like a random accusation. R8 references R5's behavior from a year-old Gaza thread, and then R5 defends himself in R10 by citing that same thread. How do these two 'know' each other in this thread? Sure, in this case, 'menluvinguy' has a DL handle, which is rare, but I've seen this kind of recognition happen even between completely anonymous posters across various threads. The people want to know.

The choice is acceptance. You can choose to pretend whatever’s going on isn’t there but you end up like Chris Watts killing your frau wife.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | December 14, 2024 11:21 AM |
There is a straightforward response to this. "When did you decide to be straight?" It confounds people. The idea that everyone is born straight and you choose to be gay is ridiculous. It is not learned behavior or a choice you make other than to choose to live an honest life, My brother and I were raised by the same parents, went to the same school, had mostly the same friends. He is straight, married with three kids. I played football he was in the band, I was highly active in sports, he was an artist and a musician. He was a pussy hound, I was dying to have sex with a guy and feared having my teeth kicked in because of it.
