Wallace Shawn

Does anyone else love Wallace Shawn?

He can do almost anything; My Dinner with Andre, The Bostonians, The Princess Bride, Prick Up Your Ears, Toy Story, A Late Quartet, A Master Builder, and countless other film, television, and theatre roles.

He is the type of actor you just can't help but smile when he is on the screen.

He IS Wallace Shawn!

by Anonymousreply 1December 9, 2024 12:47 AM

His dad was William Shawn, chief editor of The New Yorker.

His sister was "mentally retarded" and institutionalized for life.

His brother is the composer Allen Shawn

A good summary of the Shawn spawn at R2.

by Anonymousreply 3December 9, 2024 12:50 AM

He was MeeMaw's boyfriend before Dale.

by Anonymousreply 4December 9, 2024 12:58 AM

He is also the author of some brilliant plays, most notably AUNT DAN AND LEMON and THE DESIGNATED MOURNER.

I have never been able to completely watch “ My Dinner with Andre” because I want to intrude upon the conversation - if that makes any sense.

It’s frustrating. He is a fascinating interviewee.

Inconceivable!

by Anonymousreply 7December 9, 2024 1:11 AM

R6 I know what you mean!

by Anonymousreply 8December 9, 2024 1:12 AM

He’s ok. He stood by Woody Allen for that last English language movie he did. He’s hard to cast, but when they get him in the right role, he’s very effective. I recently saw The Bostonians.

R6 Same with me. I really want to watch it till the end, but I can never get more than 1/3 of the way. It's frustrating.

I really enjoy his work in everything I've seen him in. (I think he regularly appeared in 'The Good Fight').

R9 He was the reporter in that, I believe.

by Anonymousreply 11December 9, 2024 1:18 AM

Someone I dated eons ago thought Wallace Shawn was God. Fast forward a few decades and he may have been right,

by Anonymousreply 12December 9, 2024 1:22 AM

He's the kind of actor that Honorary Oscars were made for.

by Anonymousreply 13December 9, 2024 1:27 AM

OP- He can also witness Lexi's downfall.

Jamaica Kinkaid is the mother of his niece and nephew.

by Anonymousreply 18December 9, 2024 1:36 AM

Was Dee Wallace Stone the retarded sister?

by Anonymousreply 19December 9, 2024 1:57 AM

R19 No, she wasn't institutionalized.

by Anonymousreply 20December 9, 2024 2:04 AM

Any relation?

by Anonymousreply 21December 9, 2024 2:12 AM

He really opened me up sexually.

by Anonymousreply 22December 9, 2024 2:20 AM

I remember him on Desperate Housewives, he put the moves on Teri Hatcher

by Anonymousreply 23December 9, 2024 2:40 AM

I loved his character on The Good Wife. He was the sleezy lawyer for a big drug dealer and he was funny because he seemed so innocuous yet witnesses kept disappearing.

by Anonymousreply 24December 9, 2024 3:12 AM

R24 that sounds perfect
