‘Defund the police’ activist goes viral after begging for police help when everything she owned was stolen in SF

When thieves made off with Darcie Bell’s rented U-Haul truck, the San Francisco woman put out a call for help on X: “If you see a 26 foot uhaul truck with the Arizona plate AL50003- would you let me know because it had like everything I own on it.”

The post went viral, but not for the reason she hoped for. Bell spent years posting left-wing “defund the police” views — and users across the site blasted and mocked the activist.

“Anti Police activist begs the police to help,” jeered the X account Bay State of Mind, which comments on San Francisco Bay Area politics.

Her crooked bangs tell a story.

by Anonymousreply 1December 8, 2024 11:35 PM

She should have called a social worker.

by Anonymousreply 2December 8, 2024 11:39 PM

Defunded or fully funded, the police are zero help with something like this.

They'll barely take a report down.

by Anonymousreply 3December 8, 2024 11:44 PM

Did you get 2 American dollars for this post Boris?

by Anonymousreply 4December 8, 2024 11:45 PM

Alright, who's going to check GoFundMe?

by Anonymousreply 5December 8, 2024 11:49 PM

R4, you seem unnerved. Can you provide some context as to why this bothers you so?

by Anonymousreply 6December 8, 2024 11:59 PM

No police, no investigation

by Anonymousreply 7December 9, 2024 12:44 AM

R6 he still has his Harris/Walz sign in the yard

by Anonymousreply 8December 9, 2024 12:53 AM

Defund the police never meant get rid of the police. It means stop giving them so much money until they learn to treat all people equally.

If she were black they would have shot her

by Anonymousreply 9December 9, 2024 1:09 AM

R9 you’re obviously insane.

by Anonymousreply 10December 9, 2024 1:11 AM

"defund police" means to fund cops to be cops. you know, fighting crime - when a crime is in progress, they show up. when a plethora of other social problems come up, that they do not have the training, education, experience nor temperament to handle, let's fund other professionals who do - this way things won't escalate to violence, killing, false arrests, and citizens human rights violations.........nice try, but it's never going to happen. people love violence, people love to hate....so none of that is ever going away.....

by Anonymousreply 11December 9, 2024 1:56 AM

She sho’ is ugly!

by Anonymousreply 12December 9, 2024 2:04 AM

Well, you know what they say................

by Anonymousreply 13December 9, 2024 2:08 AM

Why would anyone leave a truck unattended if it contained all your possessions?

This makes no sense.

And apparently she didn't call the police when the truck went missing. Only after the UHaul company told her to report the theft because they wanted their truck back.

In San Francisco, no less.

Wow.

by Anonymousreply 14December 9, 2024 2:09 AM

Local police dept have become military machines. You see this when they bring out the tanks and such during major searches.

Defund this nonsense.

We need more social workers and mental health specialists in police depts, not more officers who just over police minority neighborhoods.

THAT’s what defund the police means

by Anonymousreply 15December 9, 2024 2:11 AM

^ You just know R15 is white and oh so knowledgable about minority neighborhoods.

by Anonymousreply 16December 9, 2024 2:26 AM

And everything she owned fit in a thimble.

by Anonymousreply 17December 9, 2024 2:28 AM

R11 The argument you just made has too many components for the average American idiot. Just too many. If it’s not ABC-123 they don’t get it or do get it but just want to be cynical.

by Anonymousreply 18December 9, 2024 2:29 AM

OP's link said she posted shit up on X. It did not say she begged the police for help or contacted the police at all. Something in the water does not compute.

by Anonymousreply 19December 9, 2024 2:31 AM

Look, R15 and others. “Defund” has a really simple dictionary definition. It means “cease to fund.” Period. None of your defensive explanatory fine print.

It is widely understood among Democrats who actually want to win elections, that “defund the police” was a spectacularly good activist campaign …. for Republicans.

by Anonymousreply 20December 9, 2024 2:32 AM

R15 is absolutely correct. There is no need for a militarily armed police force against its civilian population. Its gross overkill. There is no need for US police forces to resemble the Gestapo or the SS, unless the object is to completely subjugate and terrorize the civilian population.

by Anonymousreply 21December 9, 2024 2:35 AM

I lived in Harlem for 10 years and that place is completely overpriced. There would be 5 police constantly on my block alone. They’d pull over car after car, no matter how small the infraction. No white neighborhood I’ve ever lived in had that many police.

With police killing tons of unarmed Black people, defunding makes complete sense. Republicans used it to mock Dems because Republicans are completely fine, and even encourage, violence against minorities.

If whites were targeted by police, what would their slogan be? “Keep funding the police as usual!”?

by Anonymousreply 23December 9, 2024 2:43 AM

[quote]If whites were targeted by police, what would their slogan be? “Keep funding the police as usual!”?

More white people are killed by police than black people, but do continue with your propaganda.

by Anonymousreply 24December 9, 2024 3:10 AM

[points at Darcie Bell] HAW HAW!

by Anonymousreply 25December 9, 2024 3:52 AM

As someone with family members who are social workers, I'm telling you right now, they are not about to show up to a call for someone having a mental health episode and behaving erratically without the police securing the scene first. They just aren't. I have asked them what they thought about the "sending social workers instead of cops to these types of calls" idea and to summarize the overall consensus, this was basically the answer, "Shiiiiiiiiiiiet."

by Anonymousreply 26December 9, 2024 9:09 AM

reVAMP the police

by Anonymousreply 27December 9, 2024 9:59 AM

I agree with the concept of "defunding the police," but I think it's the worst name for a movement.

People keep saying, "No, it doesn't mean stop funding the police. It means reallocating funds to other resources." OR "Instead of buying a 2024 four-wheel drive cruiser, why not get a 2021 model? Then the leftover funds could be used to recruit potential officers in urban areas."

Simple and something I think many more people would support, BUT the title is off-putting. Sometimes we can't get out of our own way.

by Anonymousreply 28December 9, 2024 10:44 AM

Remember back in 2012, the slogan was "Defund ICE?" During an election year, no less.

by Anonymousreply 29December 9, 2024 11:33 AM

I don’t understand what the big deal is about defunding the police, it’s not like we haven’t been defunding education for decades. Where’s the outrage about that?

by Anonymousreply 30December 9, 2024 11:43 AM

Defund the police is utter stupidity meant to get Republicans elected while derailing meaningful police reforms like ending qualified immunity, creating a national database of bad cops and demilitarizing the police. And anyone arguing that defund doesn’t mean defund is a soft headed idiot.

by Anonymousreply 31December 9, 2024 12:29 PM

Defund the police was the best political slogan ever created…to help elect Republicans.

by Anonymousreply 32December 9, 2024 12:42 PM

That hair. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 33December 9, 2024 12:53 PM

Feel good story!

by Anonymousreply 34December 9, 2024 1:04 PM

Well back to the thrift store she goes .

How does having more police there make it overpriced?

by Anonymousreply 36December 9, 2024 10:47 PM

R9 lol no the fuck it wasn't.

by Anonymousreply 37December 9, 2024 11:09 PM

The person who stole her truck was certainly marginalized and was just taking back what they were owed by colonizers and gentrifiers like her.

She should be celebrating the liberation of her worldly goods, not crying about their redistribution.

by Anonymousreply 38December 9, 2024 11:31 PM

R38 - You need to track her down on SM and post that. Brilliant.

[Quote] More white people are killed by police than black people, but do continue with your propaganda.

False equivalence. There are far more white people in the US so, of course, statistically, more whites will be killed. The issue is about how many unarmed Blacks are killed and the pathetic excuses the police use for why they were killed (the main one being, “I was afraid.”)

by Anonymousreply 41December 10, 2024 1:54 AM

[Quote] How does having more police there make it overpriced?

Should have been “over policed” but apparently iPhones don’t have that in their dictionary

by Anonymousreply 42December 10, 2024 1:54 AM

Sadly, after all the George Floyd brouhaha, have police departments made any changesv

The Black Lives Matter movement and protests made companies and academic institution take a good hard look at their policies to assure that minorities are treated fairly.

But then came the inevitable white supremacy backlash. Never dare allow minorities to gain any equality. Otherwise whites will destroy you.

by Anonymousreply 43December 10, 2024 1:58 AM

The right’s stance is always, There’s no problem. Blacks and Whites are treated equally everywhere. If Blacks don’t get to the C-Suite, it’s their own fault

by Anonymousreply 44December 10, 2024 1:59 AM

[quote]The issue is about how many unarmed Blacks

Explain to us how a cop is supposed to know that a violent criminal is unarmed.
