Arthur Schlesinger’s diaries weee published 20 years ago, they were interesting, he had good gossip in them. When Ari Onassis died and Jackie’s fight with Christina over the estate went public, he was at a dinner party with Pamela Harriman, who told him “Jackie was foolish, Greeks never share their money.”

Alexandra is featured prominently featured in them; she was close to Norman Mailer’s wife Norris and they went to a lot of society dinners in the 70s with people like Andy Warhol. In the early 80s, the Nixons moved next door to them, which was awkward considering Arthur Schlesinger was on Nixon’s Enemies List.

He stayed very close to the Kennedys and was devastated when Jackie died. He also got to know Hilary Clinton who told him that she strongly disliked Joe Lieberman.

Its an interesting book-Alexandra comes across as a decent lady.

Pamela was the dumb one—JKO made out like a bandit —for a few fucks.

Even more so, R15, if it’s true, as I have recently read, Jackie’s marriage to Ari was never consummated.

Alexandra had only two children, both sons. One with her first husband, & then the one with Schlesinger.

The Schlesingers always made an interesting looking couple with the much younger Alexandra, at 6’2”, towering over her diminutive husband.

Arthur Schlesinger’s first wife, Marian Cannon Schlesinger, to whom he was still married in the Kennedy White House years, lived until the ripe old age of 105.
