Tasteful friends, the most Houston house that ever Houston’d

The River Oaks home of late billionaire Fayez Sarofim.

Your title is perfect. Yikes.

Although hideous, it's far from the worst.

OP, I'll see your ridiculous 15,000 sq ft McMansion and raise you this 26,600 sq ft even more extreme one that, as an added bonus, is on a street named after the earl who owns the castle used on "Downton Abbey."

That kitchen!!!

Yes, please. 🤤🤤

I used to drive by that damn place all the time when I lived there! They really could have eased up on the patterns but there are a few nice touches here and there if you remove the curtains or that busy ass wallpaper. I agree about that kitchen, very sleek.

The outside is OK if a bit much, but the interior seems to be a collection of every kind of bad taste imaginable.

I don’t hate it. Some of the rooms look quite nice, but I like lots of color. The gold I can do without.

Not sure what to make of this space, though.

I'm sure they had hot-and-cold-running maids, but the shiny surfaces in the kitchen still looked like a lot of work to me. If that kitchen was actually used, that must have been a headache for the staff.

I driven past it myself. Too big of a house for that lot, IMHO, though I know that's expensive real estate.

The art is well done, it looks pricey and 'tasteful'. European Impressionist landscapes.

For people who like this sort of thing it’s a very good example of the sort of thing they’d like.

by Anonymousreply 10December 8, 2024 8:52 PM

It cycles through different styles for each space like a Real Housewife on coke. I love the idea

Not my taste (not by a long shot), but people do so much worse.

This is not peak Houston.

That's not just any house, that's a swankienda!

by Anonymousreply 12December 8, 2024 9:08 PM

R7 - I think that might be the wine cellar.
