[quote] I’ve only ever gone third wave coffee in my town.
I posted the comment.
I don’t like chain coffee just like I don’t like chain restaurants. You’re helping support local businesses - which is best. My neighborhood is so filled with third wave coffee it’s insane, but I love it.

What's "third-wave coffee", precious? What's "third-wave coffee"?

I read the article, very pretentious.

My own summary of the article: third wave is about fair trade, supporting small businesses from the farm to cup, non-mass produced product and…our collective need for pretension and our narcissism! From the article:
The third wave is all about making the consumer feel special:
Part of that is customer service, but another part is sharing the story behind the cup This story is one created by producers, importers, roasters, and baristas It explains why a coffee is distinctive, why a consumer can taste certain notes, and why high-quality coffee takes so much work

[quote] ut another part is sharing the story behind the cup This story is one created
Is it curated?
Artisanal?
House made?

I’m happy to be a part of that. The corporate giants all suck ass when it comes to making coffee

Farm to cup is coffee is rife with corruption, just like organic food et all, don't believe it, farmers don't get anything, another rich persons fake effort, get a life, it's all a lie.

The problem with "third wave coffee" is the current trend for fruity, overly acidic light roasts that all taste like battery acid to me. It doesn't matter which hip local coffee shop I go to, even in completely different cities...the coffee all tastes like this and it's godawful.

Jesus Christ…just give me a small drip coffee with no extra precious thoughts and a minimum of social interaction.

[quote]Dismas Smith of Caffe Ladro, Seattle says, “Third wave coffee does not accept old traditional ways of growing coffee or making coffee.”
The third-waviest thing about it is that it's served up by people with names like Dismas.

R9, you need to get out more then. The cafe on my corner (there is another a block away) offers at least five different roasts a day. The darkest are VERY dark. It seems to much, but they do a wonderful business. Especially on a Sunday

R10, that is called first wave. And go for it, it’s not hard to find at all.
