I'm not in debt, you lousy gossiping bitches! I still have $1.8 million left!

Throughout her campaign, Harris raised more than $1 billion, a stunning figure that mirrored the quick rise of her campaign.

But Trump, now the president-elect, defeated Harris in the general election, with the vice president coming up short in the swing states.

New federal filings show that the Harris campaign had $1.8 million remaining in the bank after spending over $1 billion against Trump in the presidential race.

In the filings, the Harris campaign also reported that it had no debts.

The filings reveal the pace of spending for the Harris campaign, which began with heightened enthusiasm from Democrats and major donors who had grown despondent over Biden's chances after a disastrous debate against Trump raised questions about his ability to mount a robust reelection campaign.

From October 17 through November 25, which included some of the most frenzied stretches of the campaign through the postelection period, Harris raised $160 million and spent over $270 million. The Trump campaign raked in nearly $87 million during that same period and spent $113 million, the president-elect's campaign filings indicated.

Harris held large rallies in swing states like Georgia and Pennsylvania throughout her campaign, especially in the immediate weeks leading up to the election. And despite the vice president's financial advantage over Trump, she had to boost her profile to an electorate that had long expected Biden to be the nominee and was uncertain about her positions on various issues — from tackling inflation to her approach to foreign policy.

The new FEC report also seemingly puts to rest any talk that the Harris campaign is heavily in debt, a notion that the campaign rejected last month when it told The New York Times that "there will be no debt" on the filings.

But in the weeks since the general election, Democrats have still received fundraising appeals from the Harris operation. The "Harris Fight Fund" is the postelection operation of the general election "Harris Victory Fund" and is touted as a way to help provide accountability for the Trump administration.

The Democratic National Committee's newest filings revealed that it had over $47 million in cash on hand, while its rival, the Republican National Committee, had nearly $43 million in the bank.

Ever since the election, I have been reading articles online from all kinds of sources including the AP and CNN, claiming that Harris' campaign "blew through" $1 Billion and had a mountain of unpaid bills. it was a lie. A total complete lie. They would happily point at Harris and lie and distort while no one questioned the amount of money Musk put into Trump's campaign, and Trump's unpaid bills, stiffing printers, and contractors, and venues, and who was paid, and where the money went. .No. Nothing except Harris who raised a billion and ran and outstanding campaign in just a little over 100 days.

[quote] Campaign finance records show Harris' $1 million payment to Oprah's production company

WASHINGTON ― As Democrats reel over how Vice President Kamala Harris' losing campaign spent more than $1 billion, a new campaign finance report confirms that the Democratic presidential nominee's campaign paid Oprah Winfrey's production company $1 million.

The records put an end to a monthslong controversy over whether Winfrey was paid for endorsing the former Democratic presidential nominee.

Rumors exploded in November that Harris campaign paid the former talk show host for her support after a story by the Washington Times cited Federal Election Commission finance records showing that Winfrey's company, Harpo Productions, received $1 million from Harris.

Winfrey denied all allegations that she received money from the Harris campaign when asked by paparazzi in mid-November about whether she was paid for her endorsement. "Not true. I was paid nothing, ever," she responded at the time.

But shortly after a video of the exchange was posted on Instagram, Winfrey sought to clarify. Commenting on the video, she explained that her company, Harpo Productions, was paid for its work helping produce Harris’ “Unite for America” livestream rally on Sept. 19.

The event, hosted along with the activist group Win with Black Women, featured major celebrities including comedian Chris Rock along with actors Ben Stiller, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep and Bryan Cranston. It was aimed at registering people to vote in swing states such as Pennsylvania, Georgia and Michigan – all of which Harris ended up losing in the election.

The company, Winfrey said, was asked to provide set design, lights, cameras, microphones, crew and producers, among other items for the event. Winfrey added that she did not receive a cut of the money.

“I did not take any personal fee," Winfrey said in her comment. "However, the people who worked on that production needed to be paid. And were. End of story."

Harris spent an additional $575,000 to run a 90-second ad on the outside of the Las Vegas Sphere ahead of a rally she hosted before Election Day, according to campaign finance reports. The campaign spent millions more on television and digital advertisements throughout the election.

Much of that spending is now under microscope, as Democrats assess Harris loss and where her campaign went wrong in the 2024 election.

The article that OP posted is so poorly written.

"New federal filings show that the Harris campaign had $1.8 million remaining in the bank after spending over $1 billion against Trump in the presidential race."

^ Note that it uses the word "had" rather than "has".

And this one is hard to figure out. What are they saying here?

"The Democratic National Committee's newest filings revealed that it had over $47 million in cash on hand, while its rival, the Republican National Committee, had nearly $43 million in the bank."

Is it 1.8 million...or 47 million?

The DNC has its own money, R3.

That's separate from Kamala's Presidential campaign money.

The DNC spends its fund on ALL Democratic candidates nationwide, depending on which candidates need it the most.

So they're saying that the DNC has $47 million left over after the 2024 election, while the RNC has only $43 left over. Although they have roughly the same amount of money in the bank.

Whereas, Kamala has only $1.8 million left in her Presidential Campaign Fund.

But hey, at least she's not in debt.

NO. ONE. CARES.

And people say Trump is a cult.

The Republicans and the media are looking for ways to tear Kamala down. And they will continue to demonize Oprah. Nothing new in any of that. When are they gonna look at the expenditures of the Trump gang.

I firmly believe that some good reporters in compromised news organizations have access to information or to the means of getting it, and they should publicize that information through leaks on social media because clearly their bosses won't publish it.

It would be a lot easier for them to sit back and just watch the Kamala movement implode.

by Anonymousreply 9December 8, 2024 5:06 PM

I never really got the "blew through" argument.

If there was ever time for "spend em if you got em," surely a presidential election would be it.

Publicize WHAT information, R8?

Against who?

by Anonymousreply 11December 8, 2024 5:50 PM

[quote]Publicize WHAT information, [R8]?

I assume R8 is referring to things like who was on the The Grassy Knoll, Area 51, etc.

by Anonymousreply 12December 8, 2024 5:54 PM

R11 against Trump's campaign and the RNC. The flood of dark money f rom billionaires the money that went to his legal defense fund, etc.etc. etc. What I meant was (I was high on pot) that the editors and publisher and decision makers in the mainstream media simply vomit out Republican talking points, and I can see a good journalist being frustrated by those policies which are neither fair nor balanced. So if I was a principled reporter who wanted to produce good journalism, and I had information my network or my publication refused to use, I would leak it out on social media.

It’ll be hard not to think of that the next time I receive an urgent email to give money to the Democratic Party.

by Anonymousreply 14December 8, 2024 8:15 PM

Why is that a bad thing, R14?

Advertising on the Sphere is just like advertising on a Billboard or in a newspaper.

All the people questioning how she spent the money are trying to create a problem where none exists. in a little more than 100 days she mounted a very competitive campaign. She got 48.4 % of the vote and 226 electoral votes. Yes. She lost. But she gave them a fight and the fucking billionaires Boys Club and their fucking satellite link nailed it at the end. We can never know whether their communications were hacked or whether other internal stuff was compromised in key states. But I'd love to know WTF Trump did with all his money because everyone knows he never pays his bills. Did La Civita his campaign manager really get paid more than $22 Million?

Biden withdrew on 7/21 and the anointing of Harris began. The average of the eight Trump vs. Harris polls taken between 7/27 through 8/4, when it was clear that Harris would be the nominee, was 48.375% for Harris. In the election, she received 48.4% of the vote.

The one billion dollars did not move the needle one iota.

by Anonymousreply 17December 8, 2024 10:14 PM

Wow, R17.

That's a pretty fascinating statistic.

It makes you wonder what she COULD have done with the money, to improve her chances.

by Anonymousreply 18December 9, 2024 4:36 AM

^ There are a few low-cost things she could have done like distancing herself completely from Biden and publicly repudiating some of her far-left stances from 2019. And doing interviews and podcasts from the get-go instead of waiting until the end of September.

She had no strategy to win. Running on "Joy" and cutesy Tik-Tok memes was not going to win this.
