'Other dates which will live in infamy'

On the 83rd anniversary of Pearl Harbor, what other dates will live in infamy for you or otherwise?

I'll go ahead and put 9/11 out there.

January 6, 2021. The day democracy died, replaced by the tyranny of billionaire oligarchs.

The day I was microaggressed by a fan simulation of the "Wicked" poster.

R10 Dang, just beat me to it. Trump's second term will make 01/06/2021 look like child's play

Why would that be infamous? Are you looking at it from the German's point of view?

by Anonymousreply 14December 8, 2024 3:15 AM

FDR edited his 12/8/41 address to Congress from describing the Japanese attack as “a date which will live in world history” to “a date which will live in infamy.”

by Anonymousreply 15December 8, 2024 3:19 AM

Everyday is a day of malodorous infamy.

by Anonymousreply 16December 8, 2024 3:20 AM

As a child, I remember coming home from an NBA game I attended with my father & hearing on the car radio talk of it being the 25th anniversary of Pearl Harbor.

by Anonymousreply 17December 8, 2024 3:22 AM

10/10/17 - my mom died . Ten days before my birthday . My sisters couldn’t understand why this added another dimension of grief for me.

R17, that is absolutely, incredibly, uniquely fascinating. Would you care to share more such amazing memories?

by Anonymousreply 24December 8, 2024 1:34 PM

Why are you such a dick, R24?! On the actual anniversary of Pearl Harbor, I was just noting the passage of time remembering the event. That on the little-noted 83rd anniversary I have a residual childhood memory of the historical significance afforded the event on the occasion of its 25th anniversary. Will you also take issue with me noting that, on this 44th anniversary of John Lennon’s murder, more time separates us now from Dec. 8, 1980 than the 39 years that elapsed between Pearl Harbor & Lennon’s death?

by Anonymousreply 25December 8, 2024 1:53 PM

No, I won't take issue with that, because that fact is worded in an interesting way. Also, R17, your first post would have made a lot more sense in demonstrating the passage of time if you had told us how old you are, but minus that information, it seemed pointless to me.

R28, you must also not be a fan of historical/biographical books/articles that offer color to the recorded accounts, e.g., what the weather was like, what was eaten for breakfast. And for the record, the "child" on 12/7/66 is now 67.

A completely different situation, I would say.

[quote]And for the record, the "child" on 12/7/66 is now 67.

Thank you, this is exactly the missing information that was needed to give that post a point.

The day the Academy gave the Oscar to Grace Kelly over the far superior Judy Garland.

The original “slap”.
