This wonderful 90 minute exchange between Brian Tyler Cohen and Hakeem Jeffries has provided me with a comfort and a sense of hope that I have not felt since the election. Jeffries is very clear on what went wrong with the 2024 election and what needs to be tweaked for 2026/2028 so that the Dems can connect to more people and switch more people on. For instance he said, "Republicans speak in headlines; Democrats speak in fine print. Democrats can govern in fine print but we need to be speaking to the American people with clear, catchy headlines." He's nailing it. So many wonderful insights. Jeffries is fantastic. If he ever were to run for president, he's got my vote.
I like the sound of this but unfortunately the media let the Republicans say anything they want and announce any policy they want without comment or question. Any old brain fart is unquestioned Republican policy for the media. Lots of evidence of this during the 2024 campaign.
But for the Democrats - the media demands very specific detailed policy information, detailed final costings, how it's going to be paid for, who's going to implement and run the policy, how it's going to be passed and who it will affect.
So how is that going to work?
