So many DIETS are just low carb diets

Atkins, Stillmans, Scarsdale, Keto, caveman, etc

How about just a “low carb diet”?

by Anonymousreply 23December 8, 2024 6:56 PM

Thanks for sharing. What is your point?

by Anonymousreply 1December 7, 2024 11:39 PM

I want to start a diet and make millions marketing it.

It’ll just be a low carb diet but people will pay to know the secret!

by Anonymousreply 2December 7, 2024 11:48 PM

Keto isn't just low carb

by Anonymousreply 3December 7, 2024 11:51 PM

R3, of course it is

by Anonymousreply 4December 7, 2024 11:52 PM

Whole30 is another low carb diet

by Anonymousreply 5December 7, 2024 11:53 PM

STILLMAN??? How old are you, OP?

I simply lower carbs like bread and pasta.

by Anonymousreply 6December 7, 2024 11:55 PM

Just stopping rice, bread, and pasta is good enough. For me, all fruits are fine because the sugar is surrounded by fiber.

Apparently as old as you

well technically keto is no carbs because you must not consume any carbs for the 1st week to put your body into ketosis. Some people only need 2 days. From there, you must consume very little carbs.

Remember when the Scarsdale Diet Doctor was murdered by his lover Jean Harris, who ran a top girls’ school in Manhattan?

by Anonymousreply 10December 8, 2024 12:52 AM

Eat less, move more for a year.

Ta da.

R11 = fatty

They're actually low sugar and starch diets. What everyone calls "carbs" = starch.

Carbs also include sugars and vegetables. Some of the keto diets want you to eat meat to the exclusion of vegetables, but they're insanely bad for your health. People should just limit sugar and starches like it says in the food pyramid. That means going easy on sugary veg like peas and sweet potato, and starchy ones like potatoes, but it shouldn't actively exclude any of those, and most of the other veg are practically calorie-free.

People should also accept that, unless you go the Ozempic route, you should accept that you'll lose weight almost as slowly as you put it on.

Sorry about the repetition in that last sentence. Too late with the edit.

R10, not in Manhattan. In McLean, Virginia.

Thank you, r13. You've helped me with those words.

I tend to get discouraged even after I manage to cut back and in the first week and although as a result, I start to see changes in my face (it gets ever-so-slightly narrower) and my clothes even start to feel more comfortable.

I'm a true carbs and sugar addict, though, ever since I stopped drinking alcohol.

My relapses are frequent, and I like the good stuff, real butter cream frosting, rich bakery...

by Anonymousreply 17December 8, 2024 2:54 PM

Della, these are the reasons Ozempic is popular. It reduces your appetite so it's easier not to relapse and you can lose weight more steadily even if you keep to a fairly low dose. For some lucky people it kills cravings for alcohol and sugar as well, though I don't personally know anyone for whom that has happened.

Studies have shown it takes at least six weeks to build any new habit into an actual habit, and also that people who have been overweight will remain hungrier than those who haven't for a long time even if they achieve their goal weight. So it IS very difficult to do. Stopping alcohol is a big start though, because aside from its other effects, it's all empty calories and sugar.

Low carb is dumb if you exercise regularly.

by Anonymousreply 19December 8, 2024 3:14 PM

And yet everyone is still fat, low carb low fat, stop eating so FUCKING much.

by Anonymousreply 20December 8, 2024 3:43 PM

There are three building blocks to nutrition: Fat, Protein, Carbohydrates.

Most diet restrict one of these so diets are basically: low fat, only vegetable protein or only meat protein, low carb.

All of them actually work by reducing calories, studies show—but the diets act like rule to follow. Most are hard to keep up because there are so many temptations

by Anonymousreply 21December 8, 2024 6:26 PM

R10, thanks for the correction. Forgot she was from Virginia

by Anonymousreply 22December 8, 2024 6:38 PM

I don't understand why people can't just drink a lot of water, take a collagen supplement and walk! That's all I do to stay in shape and keep looking young!
