But Did He Need Killing?

Law enforcement reminds the public it's hella hard to find criminals, particularly when no one cares that much.

Apparently breaking into phones isn't that easy anymore, DNA samples are not that easy to obtain, facial recognition software is problematic and Central Park, where the suspect fled to, is the size of Monaco.

Thank god we have another thread on this. We already had 11 and this makes it a pleasant dozen.

Is there another thread on the problem with facial recognition software?

by Anonymousreply 2December 7, 2024 4:14 PM

I have to recuse myself from this discussion. I've suffered under UHC's garbage arbitrary practices since 2007.

Yet titled, “But Did He Need Killing?”

Try again.

“Face is not a fingerprint. It’s not DNA. It’s not used for (an) affirmative match. It’s used to get to a small enough number where that expert can say, ‘Yes, I believe we have an investigative lead here. What other evidence may we have that can match this person to the crime?’”

Good to know?

Yes.

I need one more for a dozen, R1.

[quote] Police are investigating a phone found in an alley the suspect ran through. But extracting data from a phone can be extremely difficult, depending on the model of the phone and the operating system.

“This is something that law enforcement at every level has been struggling with for the last 10 years … and that’s because of the ubiquity of end-to-end encryption and these incredibly secure kind of locking programs that we have on most phones,” said former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.

I'd tell Andy McCabe that we should never be more grateful for end-to-end encryption than we are right now, staring down the barrell of Trump 2.0 with a certain Musk in the air.

It looks like they published a paparazzi photo of Taylor Zakhar Perez and are trying to pass it off as the perp, who clearly did not have such a thin face.
