Huge, unidentified, drones are being reported flying over NJ for past few weeks at night. Focusing over infrastructure such as New Jersey water basins, military weapon installations, Trump frequented golf course. FBI are asking public for help reporting. FAA has issued no fly zone label over areas.

Yeah I live right here, in the northern NJ burbs, and neighbors are seeing them in the middle of the night. Much bigger than a teenager's $200 recreational thing.
The cops have put out local bulletins asking us all to help them especially if we take note of exactly where they seem to be coming from and returning to.

The modern age continues its inexorable march toward mechanized dominion over the natural world. These drone flights in South Jersey are but another harbinger of humanity’s obsession with automation and surveillance. What were once the unspoiled skies, vast and unknowable, are now mere highways for the machines of our own invention. Artificial eyes darting through the heavens, watching, recording, imposing order where there once was freedom.
Should one marvel at this technology? Perhaps. Yet I can’t help but foresee the darker implications. The erosion of privacy, the gradual conditioning of society to accept mechanical overseers in all facets of life. These machines may begin as tools, but they whisper of a future where autonomy is but an illusion, and man becomes subservient to the creations of his own hubris.
Let New Jersey serve as a microcosm of the age to come. A realm where progress is both marvel and menace. Will we master these machines, or will they, in time, master us?

It’s aliens. What else could it be? Drones in South Jersey? You think Bezos is sending Prime deliveries to the Pine Barrens? Nah. It’s the little green guys, no question. They’re probably cruising around, checking out the shore, maybe hitting up an Atlantic City buffet before they abduct a few tollbooth workers for research.
I mean, if you’re an alien, where else would you go? New York = too obvious, Florida’s already weird enough without extraterrestrial interference, but Jersey? Perfect cover. They probably think the Wawa hoagie is the pinnacle of human achievement. And honestly, they’re not wrong.
Either they’re studying us, or they’re just trying to figure out why we willingly live next to that smell on the Turnpike. Either way, it’s aliens and I’m sure of it.

Drone sightings over South Jersey aren’t just tech tests. They’re symbols of our surveillance era malaise. Why there? A liminal space perfect for quiet experiments, where diners meet decay and progress hovers dispassionately above. Drones embody our powerless coexistence with control: omnipresent, watching, yet detached.

You may have answered your own question! The absence of a DOD freakout indicates the drones are theirs. They are most likely testing anti-drone defenses at US military installations. They have been spotted sniffing around US bases in the UK. Plus, a "drone corridor" exists between Dover, DE, and New England.
Yes, a drone corridor appears to be a thing. Welcome to the future.

This story is so New Jersey! Drones over Bedminster? Trump's golf course? That part of NJ is very VERY rich MAGA Republican.
As a drone pilot with a Part 107 license I can tell you this is paranoid NJ BS. This has already been talked about. Most of the sightings are small planes if you know the layout of lights on a drone vs lights on a small plane. There is a small airport in central NJ where Dump lands when he wants to golf there.
Secondly, drones are easy to track, the tech is out there and some police departments have purchased this technology. It will not only show you where the drone is, but it's entire flight path. Which means they can tell where it took off from.
Third, if all these "I saw it too" paranoid MAGAts knew anything about drones they would know that flight time is VERY limited, maybe 45 minutes due to the weight of the batteries. They also cant go more than about 5 miles from where they took off without running out of battery life.
Finally, there is something called Geo fencing. It's been around for years. Basically it's an invisible wall over restricted areas like military bases, critical infrastructure like dams, some prisons, that will stop a drone from crossing over it. Not everyone is using it yet, but military is for anything even remotely sensitive.

"As a drone pilot with a Part 107 license I can tell you this is paranoid NJ BS. "
First of all, the sightings have been in PA and NY as well.
And if it's just paranoid BS why is the FBI involved? Gee...maybe they should talk to you!:
"The FBI is leading the investigation with the New Jersey State Police and the Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, while the US Coast Guard is assessing jurisdictional responses." - CNN
"The drones operate in a coordinated manner, turning off their lights to evade detection, complicating tracking efforts. They are not identified as hobbyist drones or linked to the Department of Homeland Security, State Assembly member Dawn Fantasia said on X." - CNN

The fact that ground-based drone operators can't get their own drones close enough to examine them, or video them, is significant. Several NJ small drone operators have told the media that they've sent up their smaller craft, and when they get close enough to the unknown drones their batteries immediately quit or die out.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | December 12, 2024 8:00 PM |
"The minute you get eyes on them, they go dark". That's a quote from law enforcement and Gov Murphy. The NJ state police have sent up their own drones, but when they get close the others take off and out-fly them.
Here's another esoteric thought: some believe UAPs can "cloak" themselves, meaning they can disappear from normal visual contact or view, at will. Some of these objects are being seen by some on the ground, but not by others in the same area perhaps.
That's why certain people have been videoing obviously large craft flying overhead, over fairly populated areas, but others nearby aren't reporting any sighting at all.

They aren't owned by citizens. Not that many and at that size (some are 6 feet across or more), with that kind of complexity.
The Fail (I won't link to it here) reports today that a couple of UK AF bases - the ones used by US Air Force personnel - were swarmed by drones as well, last month. They felt it was a coordinated effort by externals. Also, in December last year, Langley AFB in Virginia was swarmed nightly by drones, for more than two weeks. Per reports:
One or two fixed-wing drones flew more than 100ft in the air as smaller quadcopters, the size of 20lb commercial drones, flew slower and below them and occasionally hovered over the 17-night period.
They were preceded by a drone estimated to be 20-ft in length and flying at 100mph at at altitude of 3-4,000 ft. The drones were nearly impossible to catch, despite the Air Force's vast resources, according to Gen. Mark Kelly, a decorated senior commander at the airbase.
They flew across Virginia's Chesapeake Bay towards the city of Norfolk, over an area that included the home of SEAL Team Six, Langley Air Force base, Fort Eustis and Naval Station Norfolk, but the Air Force could not shoot them down due to strict federal laws that prevent the military from shooting down drones in the US unless they pose an imminent threat.
What about the ones that aren't small planes, such as the sightings that are of stationary craft. Or what about the ones that zig-zag?
That's how drones fly numbnuts. Actually they are called quad-copters or UAVs (Unmanned aerial vehicle). Most have 4 propellers but the larger ones may have 5 or 6. Unlike a plane, they can fly forward and backward, side to side and up and down with a simple controller. Most will come to a complete stop and hover in place if you take your fingers off the controls. They are very agile.

A New Jersey reporter was left stunned after he saw over 50 mysterious drones over a county in the state in one night.
by Anonymous | reply 168 | December 14, 2024 5:21 PM |
Odd story in the NY Post (I won’t link) quotes a NJ Sheriff who sent his own drone to track them: “If this is not our military, then it’s even more scary,” McHugh said. “These things look like they are fixed-wing and they have multiple lights. I’m not really sure how to process what I saw last night. Both the photographer and I were kind of stunned”
Yet, no photos of the drones in the story.
Why?

by Anonymous | reply 170 | December 14, 2024 5:22 PM |
Speaking after his sighting, he recalled travelling around the area for two hours and saw over fifty of them.
He said: 'I got to say, if this is not the military it is even more terrifying. These things look like they are fixed wing and have multiple lights.
'We tried to chase one and it rapidly sped off, I'm not really sure how to process what we say last night. We were both stunned by the whole experience.'
McHugh also posted an update to his social media on Friday evening saying he had been initially skeptical of the story and went out again that night but didn't see any.
Footage has also since emerged online showing what appears to be an individual firing at a drone with an airsoft gun as it passed overhead.
It remains unclear exactly where in the country it was captured, as drone sightings have since extended to at least 12 counties across the tri-state area.

Aircraft would have a flight plan, and be picked up on the flight trackers, which were cross-checked. Plus, these craft are flying too low to be airplanes, even small ones.
The people in NJ have been used to over-flying planes for years, they live in a busy air traffic corridor. This is something else entirely, dozens of smaller flying objects (but larger than normal drones), zig-zagging all over the sky from several directions, most with no straight path.
Either someone or some group is having a ball annoying thousands of people, or we have an incursion of some sort going on. Either a foreign incursion, or a non-earthly one.
by Anonymous | reply 211 | December 14, 2024 11:10 PM |
Per a post artcle I just read, they're coming in from over the water and spending time over land. They're more maneuverable than the "industrial grade" drone a sheriff sent up to track them. They turn off their lights so they can't be followed. Another interesting fact: these drones don't give of heat like others making it infrared tracking hard. The article didn't say they gave of no heat, so I'm not clear if it's not possible to trac ll them.
by Anonymous | reply 212 | December 14, 2024 11:12 PM |
How are they giving off no heat? is that possible - does someone here familiar with drones know if that's so.
They seem very sophisticated, capable of moving at very high speeds, going dark when chased and "cloaking" themselves from radar or infrared sensors.
NJ state police helicopters sent up to follow them found they disappeared when they approached, or zipped away at very high speeds so they couldn't be chased.
My feeling is that a lot of people have drones.
The FAA stats claim [bold]there are over 1.37 million (new) recreational drone owners registered with the FAA. [/bold] The actual number might be double that of unregistered drones like those really cheap crappy ones kids buy for under $100 but are technically supposed to register them. The price to register a recreational drone is only $5.
by Anonymous | reply 256 | December 15, 2024 12:41 PM |
R246, the reason for no concern is because the adults in the room who have looked at this know that 90% of those "sightings" are not even drones, they are common airplanes. The sky over NJ are full of planes and if there were such a real drone invasion the pilots of such planes would be reporting it. Instead it's central Jersey MAGAts who embrace conspiracy theories like chocolate and reject facts like an STD.
There is a reason people in the Tri-State area made the Long Island Medium so wealthy.
How does one track a drone? Are they too low flying or too small to be detected by radar? Is it too dangerous to send up police helicopters to surveil and use infrared on them if they turn their off their lights?
We have the technology been around for over a decade. It's not radar. It's a system that reads the same broadcasting frequency that the pilot on the ground uses to control his drone. It shows the flight path, the height and even the takeoff location. They don't need infrared tech because it only shows the current location based on a heat signature. Which by the way would be easy to see since drones get very hot using lithium batteries to power 4 simultaneous spinning blades and process data at the same time.

R259 at least that makes more sense than some idiot claiming this is entirely a Fox MAGA untrue story being pushed by NJ GOP. Showing a really good reason why the Dems lost. Idiots among us.
And if it is this that would explain why a no comment from the govt makes sense. And this would be a good time to complain about how much of our tax dollars go to our military.
If it’s nothing and our govt knows it’s nothing saying nothing makes no sense at all.

And it's not just GOP. You have Dems in NY and NJ asking the feds/executive (currently Dem) to look into this as well even if it's mainly GOP taking advantage of whatever is going on.

"Some of the drones are small, some of the drones flight patterns are erratic," Schumer said. "Multiple drones flying together can confuse a traditional radar system, and that's why, again, this new technology can really get us the answers that we need."

I fly a drone, part of the drone community when not on the DL. This is all about money and politics. Here's the scoop:
There are two major companies that produce the BEST drones in the world for consumers. DJI from China and Skydio from USA. DJI are actually the best in the world, technical breakthroughs with every new version, very popular, the iPhone of that industry. Skydio also pretty good in a different way but not as innovative and more expensive.
About 3 years ago Skydo announced they would stop making consumer drones and signed a 100 million dollar contract with the US Army. Shortly after that they started donating millions to Republican Senators campaigns to put DJI drones on the spy list similar to TikTok. This would basically kill all their competition.
There is a bill right now working it's way through congress to essentially ban all DJI drones from china, because if it's from china, just like your microwave it might be spying on you. Republicans love conspiracy theories so it's not a hard thing to sell. There has been NO PROOF that DJI drones are spying. Anyone with a screwdriver can take one apart and examine all the pieces. Which people have done by the way. But facts don't matter to Republicans.
This is all just about selling fear of China and the mostly Republican dirt bags in Congress taking the money from a US drone company to squash their competition.
The GRIFT continues.

Clutch your pears R332, why not ban all smart phones then? They all come from China. So does the computer you are typing on.
As I said before, you can take apart a drone and see exactly what is inside. Many people have done this. Unlike phones that can broadcast to satellites and to other countries, that's not how DJI drones work. They only have the ability, a very weak one at that to broadcast back to the pilot on the ground.

"WHY DOESN'T BIDEN DO ANYTHING?" Drones fly low. You can't send jets, helicopters are useless. Technically what is happening is not illegal. I could fly my drone in the middle of the night too. The ones being reported are bigger than most commercial drones. DJI drones and others are the size of a cat or small dog. An SUV-sized drone would need a substantial lift to get off the ground as well as a battery pack to power that lift so if true probably not commercial drones.
by Anonymous | reply 340 | December 16, 2024 1:39 AM |

Good job leaving out the facts:
"Legislation cleared by a key House of Representatives committee has fed concerns that drones produced by Chinese company Da-Jiang Innovations (DJI) will effectively be banned in the US."
"The proposed bills approved by the House Energy and Commerce Committee on March 20 represent the latest effort by the federal government and various state governments to restrict the use of DJI drones in the US. There was no dissent on the committee, with all Republicans and Democrats backing the bills, citing national security concerns."

It's Delta Force operating the drones. The US Gov't isn't constitutionally allowed to confirm or deny what operations Special Forces executes. It can only be done in a Military Tribunal, under color of law. That's why they're making excuses now instead of identifying the source of the infiltration, which is what anyone with a thinking human brain would know to do.

“I can’t imagine it’s the enemy, because if it was the enemy they would blast it out. Something strange is going on — for some reason, they don’t want to tell the people — and they should.”

But doctors told DailyMail.com after reviewing the symptoms that it was 'extremely unlikely' these sicknesses were linked to the drones.
They pointed out it was now the start of flu season and other illnesses like Covid, RSV and norovirus become more common around this time.
Dr Thomas Moore, an infectious diseases expert, said: 'It is entertaining to try to blame sickness on the condensation trails of planes or drones, but the actual explanation is much more mundane.
'It is respiratory virus season, and just being around humans at this time of year can cause you to get ill.'
Dr Bill Schaffner, also an infectious diseases expert, added: 'This is not being beamed down from above but spread among ourselves, and it is not too late to get vaccinated.

They dont need to shoot them down, we have the tech to actually override the pilot on the ground and safely land them IF WE WANT. There are actually several ways to deal with it. Shooting down a drone is ILLEGAL for everyone except the by a direct order from the military. Besides, it's the stupidest thing you could do. Large drones falling out of the sky can be very dangerous. Those blades can slice right to the bone. They can also go wildly off course and crash into moving traffic and if they land in the woods they can start a major fire as most of them have very large lithium batteries. We are talking about a fire ball not just some little spark.

R437, You are assuming the perps do not want the drones to be seen. Who says this is true? And who says that function can be turned off? Moreover, since we do not know the inner workings of these particular drones, perhaps the "blinking lights" are doing more than blinking.
What is true---aside from the drones themselves---is that we are not being informed as to their purpose, or if the government knows their purpose.
Like the economy, "It's the purpose, Stupid."

The military know exactly what they are and like most military exercises will remain tight lipped until a future date when the mission/testing is over. R220, I was thinking exactly the same thing yesterday.
I’m enjoying these drones & love reveling in the possibilities of alien life forms visiting us or us visiting them, however, in the end, I’m far too practical & believe these drones are up due to the possibility of a national security threat. That’s all well & good, but… what if there’s that 1% chance that they’re not ours?
I have no means to go elsewhere at this time, but I did think to myself that this could lead to a “Go Bag” moment.
by Anonymous | reply 460 | December 17, 2024 4:48 PM |
R457 yes the sightings” include” a whole lot of things “including “ private drones, airplanes, stars, that sort of thing. We don’t consider the drones a serious threat.
Fucking A right the drones are not a serious threat if they are our drones. And we know they don’t come from foreign countries to do us harm because we know they are our drones.
That is a Non Answer not an informed answer as to what those drones are doing. I am giving the admin a vote of confidence—-they know what those drones are doing and whose drones they are and what they are looking for.
You may have noticed he never denied that we had US govt drones looking for something. Only that the sightings included certain things.
Not lying just not being totally honest.

R461 the government is not going to ever be completely honest. National security and all that. The drones are ours. Their purpose is the question and we may find out in a few years. Maybe never. The media IS stoking the hysteria though. Reminds me of the 80s satanic panic.

by Anonymous | reply 490 | December 17, 2024 6:41 PM |
No one trusts the WH on this. No one has that kind of faith in American institutions anymore, especially when there are local officials saying otherwise.
I'll give my guess.
This started as something legitimate and small. Probably a Special Access Project being tested. Something very hush, hush.
Drones that can operate in the air and the water are something we've been working on for awhile now. it's been a difficult problem. We've also been working for decades on some crazy shit involving optical and infrared "stealth". Add AI and the concept of drone swarms into the mix.
These technologies have now reached a point where we've combined them all into the same aircraft. This leads to some crazy sci-fi seeming shit.
There is a limit to the testing you can do in the desert. You can simulate a lot of EM shit, but at some point, it's best to do real world with an actual city and associated signals to deal with.
So, "they" did, on a limited basis. The project is extremely secret so even its existence is known to only a few.
You get sightings of this crazy shit. These are real. The people who know about the SAP expected some UFO sightings. They did not expect it to spiral like this. The current tense mood of the country is something they didn't adequately take into account.
Because so few even know this SAP exists, it makes the response even more confusing than something under a more normal classified status.
Most elected officials don't have a clue what's going on. The WH may have genuinely not known originally, but I'm sure it knows by now. The problem is they don't want to reveal this shit at all yet. Maybe because it's NOT perfected yet. It's getting there, but it's not at a point where we can just tell China and the rest because we are so confident in it that we know it would kick their asses. Thus the lies.
Long way of saying, I think there is a small bit of truth here. 90% of it now is hysteria and misidentification of planes and shit. The WH is going to claim that hysteria is all of it. Trust in government will further erode as a result. (I could go on a long rant about how I think excessive secrecy is one of the causes of the decline in trust of our institutions, but I'll save that for another time.) "They" are just hoping something comes up soon in the news to distract from all this.

[bold]Looking for a dirty nuke?[/bold]
That is a tell. The latest rumor came from social media accounts of people working with these HGe drones. After posting their theory, the accounts were suspended.
So the theory is these are specialist drones looking for a dirty bomb. The thinking is that Iran or Russia (probably Russia) has smuggled in a dirty nuke through the ports of New York or New Jersey. The feds got wind of this and are looking for it. These drones can detect gamma rays given off by radiation.
A lot of unanswered questions here. Suggest searching by "New Jersey drones dirty nuke"

Seems like some people aren't going to accept anything other than some batshit, hidden agenda reason even after it's revealed to be something mundane (which it will).
For some people, it's always a cover-up. It's more *exciting* that way. Reality is too boring for them, apparently.

You don't know that.

But r542, Why now? R543, Alas. But surely you aren't asserting that every drone witness, every drone videographer IN NJ AND NY are Trump supporters?
There are significant numbers of witnesses who aren't goofball know-nothings.
I would like to have a non-subscriber link to the Orion story, as stars are a leeeetle far away.
But what I could read, the "experts" said "maybe," and HE (ex-Gov. Hogan/MD) said he saw and videotaped "dozens of large drones."
Now, he may not know a drone from Titanic, but I'm betting Mr. Hogan can count to three---the number of stars in Orion's Belt.
R546, Then, pray tell, why is the Administration NOT explaining, per some quoted attendees of that Congressional meeting the other day? Have YOU heard an omnibus explanation?
Or maybe you are content with the hodge-podge " They're planes, toys, stars, mass hysteria," Oh, and definitely "not a threat of any kind, so don't shoot!"
Well, I guess the Great Divide is clear: Government believers---those who scornfully toss around the term "Conspiracy Theorists"---vs. Government skeptics. Let's see: Which group might have verified history on its side?

Why is everyone on this thread denigrating people who want to know more as MAGAts? I haven't followed this closely, but last I checked both congressional and state reps in NJ and NY WROTE AN OPEN LETTER to the FBI and DHS demanding answers. Progressives should be more circumspect about official government narrative---conservatives only question things when Fox tells them to. There’s all sorts of things up there at night. Go outside and look up one clear night around 11pm or past midnight.
You might even see the Aurora Borealis if you’re lucky.

*I'm* r571. You can tell this because I have a clue what is going on in the sky on any given day, and also because you yourself addressed me as r571. For example, on Dec 21st, our Winter Solstice, Venus can be seen setting in the west around 45 minutes after sunset.

Pete Buttigieg brazenly offended the entire state of New Jersey with his brutal take on the recent drone 'invasion' that has stirred widespread outcry over the last month.
The US Transportation Secretary was grilled over the recent 'SUV-sized' drone sightings disrupting the Garden State and the suspected 'alien invasion' as he appeared on The Breakfast Club, co-hosted by Charlamagne tha God.
Buttigieg boldly claimed that New Jersey would be a 'very unlikely' spot for an aliens to set up camp in the opening minutes of the near 38-minute interview.

President Biden issued a statement of "reassurance" today, declaring that the drones were "legal" and not operated by "persons of malign intent."
Legal, meaning registered with the FAA, presumably.
More than 5,000. Okay, I can grant that, as licenses are on file.
But the latter claim is ABSURD on its face! HTH would Joe, Biden or Schmoe, if anyone had "malign intent" or not? What, we have psychics in the federal government now?
Try this: "Yes, there are 1 million registered guns in the US, but none carried by persons with malign intent."
See how incredibly STUPID AND CYNICAL that sounds?

Surprised this has not happened in New Jersey yet. Even though NJ is a blue state, there are huge areas inland that are very, very MAGA.
Shooting down drones is a federal crime folks. It's not your call to decide which one can be shot.

Lots of nutjobs in New Jersey are filming small planes convinced drones are invading us either by foreign activity or secret military and blame Biden and the US gov for not doing anything about it. The pentagon and FAA have looked into it and nothing there but conspiracy theories. Rube in NJ will not accept the truth as the answer and have not produced any clear pics of actual unidentified drones. Just like flying saucers of the 50's.
by Anonymous | reply 596 | December 22, 2024 11:43 AM |
Yeh, r596, except you forgot to mention that the nutjobs, who include governors, Congresspeople, police, military, and normal citizens, are also in NY, CT, PA, DC, the UK, and other areas.
And that the government SAYS that these eyewitnesses and videographers "might" be instead viewing small planes, hobbyists' drones (in swarms! Is it a club?!), and stars.
There is zero---ZERO---evidence of or reasons for the Feds to pretend to "know" what it is that the witnesses are watching, other than that the witnesses are NOT MISTAKEN.
Meanwhile, airports and military air bases are taking precautions, even closing. Why? Are TPTB afraid of small planes, hobbyists' drones, and STARS?! GMAFB.
So, r595, If you give credence to the sarcastic ignorance and blind faith (in the Pentagon! Oh, my stars! THAT bastion of veracity?!) of r596, you'd be better off Googling.
by Anonymous | reply 597 | December 22, 2024 1:29 PM |
I have other reasons, to be highly skeptical of government statements in this case:
NO "pilots of small planes" in the vicinity of drone witnesses have come forth to say, "Oh, yeah! That was me flying over [insert community, airbase, or research center here] that night! Sorry! Didn't mean to scare ya!"
NO "hobbyists with drones" have come forth to say, "I'm sorry! I was just having fun!"
Aside from one mention of Orion's Belt, nobody has come forth to say what stars could have been mistakenly identified as drones.
Tha. t is to say, some Feds are putting forth, either honestly or not, the possibilities of "mistaken identification" of planes, hobbyists' drones, and stars, without one follow-up supporting reason.
