The New York Times continues to sink into mediocrity, particularly on the gay sports pages -- the Arts & Leisure section. Here's a sample of the Seventeen Magazine, press agent inspired crap they print now:
The death of the great grey lady, part 1....

Guardian's the one to go to these days. Rachel Roddy and Grace Dent are wonderful, too.

It's so dull, bland and self regarding. And their Trump hate made them lose sight of trends in voting that they should have been alert to and objective commentators on.

I loathe Ross Douthat.
I cancelled my NYT subscription right after the election.
Thier AI marketing gizmo is really pestering me and bombarding my email trying to persuade me to re-subscribe at a lower rate than before I cancelled.
So far, I'm holding out. But I'll admit, it's tempting to go back.

I went back, R15. My sub rate is so low it's almost free -- and I don't like or trust the WaPo either so...

I caved. Its will was too strong for me.
Plus, for "All Access" I couldn't pass up the only $14.00 a month for the first 6 months.

It takes Germans to re-teach us how to do supermarkets and Brits, journalism. Make of it what you will, but we're way off track in almost everything. The love of money has captured us body and soul.

I get it, Della @ R21. I pay $4/month. Like I said, it's almost free!

The NY Times is a Sewing Circle of Gossip and Clearing House for Juicy Scoops.
Mind you, not that I'm totally against that. After all, I'm posting from the DL.
I do, however, see the point of the many criticize The Old Grey Lady for that because it does seem that has come at the expense of hard news and loftier content.
As a long-time daily reader of both the print and digital NY Times, I know its gossipy more than before.

Me too, r24.
I agree. The recipes call for too exotic, too specialized ingredients. I mostly read "Cooking" for entertainment.
I will report one that I actually made because I can't resist sweets, bakery and frostings.
I made the "Ermine Icing" for Red Velvet Cake, but it's usable for other things, especially eating it with a spoon right from the bowl.
It's a pretty straightforward recipe. It does call for some time and labor but it's well worth it.
That stuff dialed my dopamine neurons to 11.

On the editorial page, The Times blasts income inequality. In the arts and features and style sections, they celebrate income inequality. The amount of articles about British theater when they don't cover many interesting small Manhattan theatres is gross. Why am I reading these articles that I don't have the money to buy a plane ticket to see?
