Florida Man should be good for three out of four; it's a given.

It seems his son has had run ins with the law and in one case DeSantis helped his son end his probation early by reassigning somebody. Perhaps there's more to that story.
Or he realized he's about to join the Trump clown show and there is no upside to that unless you plan to run for Senator or President or something. Why make yourself a target for someone like Trump if there's no benefit?

If you get tangled up with Trump, inevitably your end up having to spend a fortune on lawyers as you get dragged into his criminal web.
Best to stay away.

Graft. The likeliest response. He didn't want to undergo the scrutiny he saw others go through. Plus, he didn't want to give up a sweet deal that took a while to set up.

The sheriffs in Florida are always crooked. And so are their deputies.

According to the NY Post - and no I'm not posting a link to that paper - there was a conservative backlash against Chronister's nomination because he had a reputation among conservatives as a "COVID tyrant."
The paper's example was that at one point, he had a pastor arrested for conducting services at his church during the lockdown and that didn't go over well.

It sounds like he's covering his own ass and there's something he doesn't want to be found out.

Probably drugs.

Florida Sheriff Chad Chronister. Yeah, he's hiding something.

R6, I wouldn’t say always but, in the smaller Florida Counties, not unusual. In the smaller Florida Counties, the Sheriff is often the most powerful elected official.

r7 has given the reason. The conservatives hate him because he came for religion (and saved people's lives) during early Covid.

Good for him
ALL of these candidates are entirely unvetted, so none of them are a given for the job. Even with trump

I think he's a closet case, and he knows his tricks will out him.
Just look at his eyebrows. He's a cookie smeller, for sure.
Also, first thing that popped up when I googled him was "Chad Chronister wife" which means that people are questioning his sexuality.
Whenever someone is suspected of being gay, the first question that always pops up when you do an online search is the word "wife" after their name.

Interesting if that's the reason, r12. It seems it was VERY early during COVID when everyone, even the reddest of red areas, was in total lockdown mode. That's pretty fucking crazy that they're going after him for following the law, especially that early when no one had any idea what to do. All because of their QAnon virus conspiracies.

Miss Chronister knows where to find the boys, AND the booze!

Is the sheriff gay? It wouldn't surprise me. The Tampa (Hillsborough County) chief of police (who went on to become mayor) is an attractive lesbian by the name of Jane Castor. But sheriffs' departments are waaaay different than police departments.
My bff's brother lives in the Tampa area and for some reason I no longer remember (this was in the late 90s), I was with him and one of his buds in a car going somewhere. Turns out the buddy was a sheriff's deputy in Hillsborough County, and we were talking about his job, because of my-ex-the-cop. He asks me if I was in the military, and then says to me, "You wanna be a deputy? You can if you want -- I can get you in!"
That's when I realized that sheriff's departments in FL are all about who you know; those people don't have to have any background in law enforcement or real training to become deputies.
I turned him down, of course.

I sear the entire future Trump "Administration" is a complete shit-show.

Those are actually all job requirements to get a job in the Trump administration. He probably had to withdraw because he was missing at least one of these requirements.

Trump won't even allow the guy a dignified exit. He posted this on Truth Social (making it all about him, per usual):
“The Wall Street Journal is becoming more and more obnoxious and unreadable. Today’s main headline is: ‘Trump’s DEA Pick Pulls Out In Latest Setback.’ With all that’s happening in the World, this is their Number One story of the day.
“Besides, he didn’t pull out, I pulled him out, because I did not like what he said to my pastors and other supporters. But, more importantly, what’s my ‘latest’ setback??? I just won the Presidency of the United States!
“They haven’t written a good story about me in YEARS. Somebody over there ought to look at what they’re doing. The only one worse than them is stupid, China-centric Forbes Magazine!”

R26 - "... MY pastors ..." Right.
Now he's nixed WSJ and Forbes: Which newspapers and periodicals should you and we be reading, donald?

I don't know, is Pravda still published?

R24 Elect a clown, expect a circus.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 4, 2024 7:47 PM |
It's simple--MAGA hates him for arresting people for flouting the anti-meeting rules during COVID. He arrested a pastor for continuing church gatherings and Evangelical hate him for it

Musk is going to be the president, he's already telling Trump what to do when he's in office.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 4, 2024 7:55 PM |
The good news is Britney is available and she has good admissible credentials for this position: she just happens to be assessing the current state of the meth market in Mexico, so there's that.
