I just got a smart watch. No, I didn't get an Apple Watch, because I'm not a tool who wants Apple to make all decisions in my life about how I use the internet. I got a Pixel 3 watch. I turned it on today, and it told me I tool 10,100 steps. Is step technology accurate? It seems like bullshit! I don't know how I took so many steps. Is it because I'm short and I take more steps than a normal sized person?
Did my smart watch lie to me about the number of steps I took today?

I am not sure about the Pixel but I have a Garmin Vivosmart and yes the step count is reasonably accurate. Sometimes when I am bored walking on the treadmill I will count the steps I take in my head to see if it matches the step counter on my watch (it is pretty accurate). Also, when I walk four miles on the treadmill, the steps/miles on my watch matches pretty closely.

Thanks, r1. I can't believe I took so many steps. I assumed I had a very sedentary life. I guess I don't!

Everyone knows that Pixel 3s were designed to convince sedentary people they're more active than they really are.

I had a Fitbit for about 4 years, it was not accurate by any means. It would count steps when I was just working on stuff in my home or cooking. And it would often significantly under count when I went for long walks in local parks that I knew what the distances are.
I replaced it earlier this year with a VeryFit watch. It is more accurate, but still not perfect. A coworker has an Apple watch and he complains it is also not accurate. Is there a dependable smart watch with reliable accurate step counter? Perhaps, but I'm not willing to shell out hundred of dollars for it.

Forget about the watch.
Has the husband stepped out on you this week?

Walking four miles on a treadmill would make me want to kill myself.

OP, it's telling you what it thinks you want to hear.

That's like 4 miles, I usually do that each day, I try to do more like 7 though. I don't think it's that insane an amount if you're someone who tries to walk a little.

Everyone is lying to you, OP.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! My watch told me you were a bunch of cunts... And he was right! If he's right about that, why would he lie to me about my step count?

You can’t handle the truth.

It knows when you've been sleeping. It knows when you're awake. Next it will know if you've been bad or good.

Whenever I do any workout that has a lot of arm movement, my step count is inaccurately high. I have an apple watch.
