2024 in review: the 10 worst TV shows of the year
I've only seen Echoes and Hopkins, and turned both off less than ten minutes in. Would you add anything to the list?
The Goat (Prime Video)
La Brea (NBC)
Orphan Black: Echoes (AMC)
Poppa's House (CBS)
The Regime (HBO)
RuPaul’s Drag Race Global All Stars (Paramount+)
So You Think You Can Dance (Fox)
Those About to Die (Peacock)
The Umbrella Academy (Netflix)
Universal Basic Guys (Fox)

That Poppa’s House shit on CBS with sr and jr Wayan looked so ass.

I watched Poppa's House once. It was fine and fit the mold of other CBS sitcoms, but I probably wouldn't watch it again unless I was bored. Is Damon Wayans Jr. gay or is that just part of his shtick?

For The Love of DILFS is shockingly bad.

Poppa's House (CBS) is HORRIBLE.
However, I'm okay with Universal Basic Guys (Fox)

The Regime was such a disappointment. I like to see Matthias Schoenaerts working and Kate Winslet made me laugh a couple of times (He BREATHED me!!) but it was an uneven mess.

The Regime was truly awful in sort of What Were They Thinking ?! kind of way.
The Perfect Couple was terrible but somehow enjoyable at parts.

I’d add “Tracker” on CBS. It’s ridiculously stupid, and Justin Hartley is dull as the lead.

Tracker isn’t one of the worst or even in the top 10

I stopped watching SYTYCD a few seasons ago. It was once a great show, but they kept tweaking the format and changing the judges and just making it worse.

Disclaimer and The Acolyte should probably be up there as well. Shit writing in both, although at least Disclaimer had some visual panache going for it. Still, it's a bizarre misfire from a big director, so that kinda makes it worse.
Speaking of misfires, The Franchise was unusually shit given Armando Iannucci and Sam Mendes were behind it.

Poppa's House is crap but the men are cute

The Regime was embarrassingly awful. Considering the talent involved, I'd love to know what went wrong there. They should make a documentary about it.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Global All Stars was pretty bad. I stopped watching after episode 4.

r15 I had such a bad feeling about it when I first saw the trailer which was completely unfunny. Didn't even bother checking out the premiere, even though I created the official DL thread for the show. Just couldn't bring myself to watch Winslet bomb like that.

R3 He's married with two kids.

I enjoyed "The Franchise" on Max. Got better after the first episode.

He gives off a faggy vibe because he's a self-loathing closet case.

r19 It did get a lot better – thanks largely to Billy Magnussen (a pleasant surprise) and Richard E. Grant – but still was nowhere near where it should have been, given the people behind it. So many instances where the jokes very clearly needed punching up, but they just weren't for some reason.

I'm glad So You Think You Can Dance is on the list. For years, FOX has been destroying it bit by bit. They had a show with real talent its early seasons. True artistic talent. Something seen on none of the other networks or anywhere else outside PBS. But they didn't have the ratings, because Americans in general do not appreciate the distinction between true talent and the stuff you see on shows like America's Got Talent. So, every season the network would force changes in an attempt to popularize it and increase ratings. Making it worse every time. It was a prestige show for them, but money wins in the end and so they both kept it around and trying to tinker with it. This season they finally ended the charade and changed it into a completely different show. And it was pure shit. Irredeemable shit in every sense. An insult to the name.

Darren Goldstein looked much better in The Franchise than in that most recent season of The Gilded Age. That was the last role I saw him in before this.

I have pretty much watched any Ryan Murphy crap for 20 years and I love Joshua Jackson but it’s fucking abysmal.

English actor Sean Teale is scrumptious, but needs a better vehicle than another tired-ass Ryan Murphy show.

Global All-Stars was very, very boring.
It also seemed designed to give Alyssa Edwards a chance at a crown.
It became more obvious every episode that the only contestants who had a ghost of a chance were the native English speakers. The whole "Margarita Pizza" thing was just embarrassing.

Leave it to Alyssa Edwards to finally win a crown and it's on the shittiest version, lol. But the thing that struck me in the article was that this was the fourth Drag Race show this year. They need to slow this shit way down, it's too much.

He was outstanding in Incorporated, r27. Alas, that show was too realistic about the future and only lasted one season. I totally agree he is yummy and needs to hit it big.

Poppa's House would've been entertaining 30 years ago. It's horrible today. Same with that 'First Marriage' comedy - unwatchable.
But don't go by me - I miss the 'classics' of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Give me repeats of 'Bewitched' or 'I Dream of Jeannie' any night of the week over today's "Poppa's House" or 'The Conners'.

What did you think would happen when the Millennials took over?
And it's going to get worse.

Happy’s Place should be on that list. Whoa. It’s awful.

Poppa's House was originally named Raising Damon, I shit you not.

"Raising Damon, I shit you not" is too long for the marquee.

The Regime was funny but very dry. There were also a lot of references to real authoritarians that probably went over people's heads. I don't regret watching it.

I enjoyed the first two episodes, but I was expecting a comedy and waited for the laughs. And there weren't any because...it's NOT a comedy. They marketed it completely wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | December 5, 2024 1:00 PM

Yeah, they marketed is as the present-day version of The Great. I'm just going by the trailer because I haven't seen the actual show.
