Actors and actresses that never got their true due

Adrienne Barbeau

Heather Langenkamp

Sheryl Lee

Although this may seem out of left field, Whoopi Goldberg.

by Anonymousreply 71December 5, 2024 2:58 AM

Sheryl Lee at least finally has a gig on Abbott Elementary.

by Anonymousreply 1December 3, 2024 5:04 AM

[My parents' real estate person was Adrianne Barbeau's manager!] Right?

by Anonymousreply 2December 3, 2024 5:04 AM

Sarah Michelle Gellar. She should have had Amy Adams’ career.

by Anonymousreply 3December 3, 2024 5:04 AM

Maxwell Caulfield. He should have been as big as Brad Pitt.

by Anonymousreply 4December 3, 2024 5:05 AM

Tuesday Knight. If Patricia Arquette could have a big career after playing Kristen Parker, why not Tuesday? Plus, she also played Drew Barrymore’s sister on the short lived “2000 Malibu Road.” Why didn’t she have a career like Drew after that?

by Anonymousreply 5December 3, 2024 5:07 AM

Michelle Williams.

After five Oscar nominations, she STILL hasn’t won her due Oscar. Instead, people still confuse her with a member of Destiny’s Child!

by Anonymousreply 6December 3, 2024 5:09 AM

Eleanor Parker.

Her character in The Sound of Music deserved to end up with Georg, but that bitch Julie Andrews ruined everything.

by Anonymousreply 7December 3, 2024 5:10 AM

Sharon Stone.

by Anonymousreply 8December 3, 2024 5:23 AM

Michael Pitt

by Anonymousreply 9December 3, 2024 5:27 AM

Katie Holmes

by Anonymousreply 10December 3, 2024 5:27 AM

Angela Pleasence

by Anonymousreply 11December 3, 2024 5:28 AM

Teresa Ganzel is as good an all-around comedian as any of the men she ever worked opposite: Jackie Gleason, Richard Pryor, Jim Carrey, John Ritter, Johnny Carson, and so many others.

by Anonymousreply 12December 3, 2024 5:33 AM

Asia Argento. And now, because of what happened between her and Anthony Bourdain and between her and Jimmy Bennett, she probably never will.

by Anonymousreply 13December 3, 2024 5:49 AM

Linda Fiorentino. When should have gotten another 10 movies where she plays a ball-busting bitch, not just The Last Seduction.

by Anonymousreply 14December 3, 2024 5:59 AM

Ray Liotta.

RIP.

by Anonymousreply 15December 3, 2024 6:17 AM

Clenn Glose

by Anonymousreply 16December 3, 2024 6:26 AM

Julianne Moore, seriously.

by Anonymousreply 17December 3, 2024 6:27 AM

Adrienne Barbeau was great on General Hospital.

by Anonymousreply 18December 3, 2024 6:47 AM

Whoopi is a fine dramatic actor, OP. She was the steady hand anchoring Girl, Interrupted and was terrifying as a kind of Fagin character in an episode of Law And Order Criminal Intent. Her interrogation scene was so strong she pushed Chris Noth to do the best acting from him I have seen.

by Anonymousreply 19December 3, 2024 6:51 AM

Gabrielle Anwar from Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken and Scent of a Woman.

by Anonymousreply 20December 3, 2024 7:51 AM

Whoopi Goldberg has won an Oscar and a BAFTA.

by Anonymousreply 21December 3, 2024 8:28 AM

Taylor Kitsch

by Anonymousreply 22December 3, 2024 11:57 AM

Diana Ross

by Anonymousreply 23December 3, 2024 12:00 PM

Alfrie Woodard. She does have one nomination that came early in her career.

I’m still surprised they Nominated Mary McDonald for Passion Fish and left her out.

by Anonymousreply 24December 3, 2024 6:01 PM

Matt Lattanzi

by Anonymousreply 25December 3, 2024 6:21 PM

British ginger goddess Eleanor David.

Breathtakingly compelling in Sylvia opposite Tom Wilkinson as the educational pioneer Sylvia Ashton-Warner, and aside from several memorable appearances on British TV (Midsomer Murders, Ruth Rendell mysteries), she was (I apply the past tense as I assume she's retired) more of a stage than screen or television actress.

Whoopi had a good run

by Anonymousreply 27December 3, 2024 8:22 PM

Niecy Nash still hasn't gotten the recognition she deserves. She's a fine actress.

by Anonymousreply 28December 3, 2024 8:26 PM

R24, my favorite movie with Alfre Woodard is the TV Movie “A Mother’s Courage: The Mary Thomas Story” about Isaiah Thomas’ mother.

by Anonymousreply 29December 3, 2024 8:28 PM

Chris Burke

by Anonymousreply 30December 3, 2024 8:33 PM

R1 is dead, wrapped in plastic

by Anonymousreply 31December 3, 2024 9:00 PM

Mary Kay Place

by Anonymousreply 32December 3, 2024 9:02 PM

Deborah Harry

by Anonymousreply 33December 3, 2024 9:37 PM

I think Cyndi Lauper only made one movie but she was pretty good in it.

by Anonymousreply 34December 3, 2024 10:27 PM

Michael York

by Anonymousreply 35December 4, 2024 5:35 AM

Viola Davis

by Anonymousreply 36December 4, 2024 7:56 AM

I feel like Sheryl Lee Ralph has been a working tv actress since the 90s. Moesha, the biggest black sitcom of its era, Ray Donovan, now Abbott Elementary not to mention countless guess spots. Not everyone is meant to be an A list film star. She was absolutely beautiful in youth.

by Anonymousreply 37December 4, 2024 8:15 AM

Elena Anaya -- she was the mistress in Savage Grace (with Julianne Moore and Eddie Redmayne) and played the lead in a great Almovodar movie, The Skin I'm In. If you want to see a movie with a similar theme to Emelia Perez but done [italic]well[/italic], see that. It will knock your socks off.

Whoopi is a goddam EGOT recipient. If thats not getting your due what it is. She also was the highest paid black actress until Beyonce in Dreamgirls, and certainly one of the biggest stars of Kate 80s/early 90s.

by Anonymousreply 39December 4, 2024 8:32 AM

I have to qualify my reference to Whoopi. I would have liked to have seen her in more dramatic roles - she was treated largely as a comic actress in the 80s and while her performances were excellent she was capable of so much more.

I feel the same way about Robert Downey Jr. His youthful beauty was wasted because nobody knew what to do with this kid. (Granted, he was a fucking mess).

by Anonymousreply 40December 4, 2024 5:06 PM

R40 He also was a junkie so I’m sure that played a part too. Great actor though.

by Anonymousreply 41December 4, 2024 5:13 PM

R41, that's kind of what I meant when I said he was a mess.

by Anonymousreply 42December 4, 2024 5:28 PM

I still have to work.

by Anonymousreply 43December 4, 2024 6:39 PM

Downey?

Sweet Maria. That egomaniacal turd has had a much bigger career than he deserved, and he has sleepwalked through most of his roles with three tricks keeping it going. Ugh.

I say Thelma Ritter. And Joan Blondell, who was heaven.

by Anonymousreply 44December 4, 2024 6:57 PM

I don't think Whoopi is funny at all and I wish Bette had done Sister Act instead. BUT, I think Whoopi is an incredible dramatic actress.

by Anonymousreply 45December 4, 2024 7:01 PM

Heather Langenkamp is getting more onscreen work these days. She's in Mike Flanagan's next Stephen King adaptation 'The Life Of Chuck'.

by Anonymousreply 46December 4, 2024 7:15 PM

Whoopi has absolutely gotten her due in some ways.

But I sort of see OP's point. I think a mix of racism and the fact that she wasn't a traditional beauty, so to speak, or someone who could slip into a lot of different roles a la Streep really led to her hitting a particular ceiling as far as her achievements.

She stopped giving a fuck years ago and of course her View job isn't necessarily the best use of her talents.

She lifted a lot of shit movies and projects to places they might have never gone otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 47December 4, 2024 7:22 PM

Am I the only one that thought OP meant Sheryl Lee, from Twin Peaks, and not Sheryl Lee Ralph, noted stage actress, comedienne, and current star of Abbott Elementary?

by Anonymousreply 48December 4, 2024 7:23 PM

R31 I love you.

by Anonymousreply 49December 4, 2024 7:33 PM

R48, I did mean Sheryl Lee from Twin Peaks.

by Anonymousreply 50December 4, 2024 8:43 PM

R44, I think Downey is one of the most effortless will-o-the-wisp performers in American film history. His range might not be broad, but he flits from role to role weightlessly.

This was what Cary Grant, Bette Davis, and the rest of classic Hollywood used to do so not sure why it's a bad thing.

Instead of trying to change yourself to suit the role, you find the part of the role you can best express.

And he was so god damned beautiful.

Still is. It's the eyes.

It is always the eyes.

by Anonymousreply 51December 4, 2024 8:50 PM

Sherri Shepard

Karen Cellini

Zsa Zsa Gabor

by Anonymousreply 52December 4, 2024 9:35 PM

R48 After noticing there was no Ralph there so concluded the same. My bad.

by Anonymousreply 53December 4, 2024 9:38 PM

Susan Anton

by Anonymousreply 54December 4, 2024 9:43 PM

Linda Evans.

Donna Mills

Tonya Crowe.

by Anonymousreply 55December 4, 2024 9:52 PM

Deidre Hall

by Anonymousreply 56December 4, 2024 9:54 PM

Michael Pitt had the most beautiful cock in that French movie

by Anonymousreply 57December 4, 2024 9:55 PM

Kate Jackson

by Anonymousreply 58December 4, 2024 9:56 PM

The little girl from Poltergeist.

by Anonymousreply 59December 4, 2024 9:58 PM

Frances Elizabeth Bavier

Erin Moran

Aneta Corsault

Given a chance, I could've made Oscar winners out of all.

by Anonymousreply 60December 4, 2024 9:59 PM

I don't understand why Sheryl Lee didn't make a bigger splash. She's certainly better than most actresses that came out of the 90's. She put on a few pounds when she made that super disturbing appearance at the end of Twin Peaks: The Return. I just reflected on that ending as it encapsulated how I felt when I woke up on November 6th.

Alison Elliott

by Anonymousreply 64December 4, 2024 10:26 PM

Betty Buckley. Her performances in Tender Mercies and Another Woman were award worthy. Rumor has it, she was a pain in the ass back then but she seems to have mellowed a bit.

by Anonymousreply 65December 4, 2024 11:53 PM

Diane Lane

Jennifer Aniston is a very fine dramatic actress. It wasn't fair she was ridiculed for that 'Cake' shit.

by Anonymousreply 69December 5, 2024 2:00 AM

Aniston is vastly underrated and has been treated as a sight gag for most of her career.

It might seem silly, but I was blown away by her performance in Horrible Bosses. She ate that role with a knife and fork and was both eye-poppingly sexy and blood-chillingly terrifying.

by Anonymousreply 70December 5, 2024 2:20 AM

Ilene Kristen Almost every actress named Marcia
