Democrats still don't agree on the seriousness of their political problem

NEW YORK (AP) — Nearly a month after a devastating election loss that exposed cracks in the very foundation of their party, Democrats remain deeply divided over the extent of their political problem — or even if they have one.

A number of Democratic leaders are downplaying the strength of Donald Trump's victory over Vice President Kamala Harris as the inevitable result of an inflation-fueled anti-incumbent backlash that shaped elections worldwide. But others are convinced that the Democratic Party is facing an acute crisis that requires an urgent overhaul of its brand, message and economic policies.

Trump swept every battleground state on Nov. 5, becoming the first Republican candidate to win the national popular vote since George W. Bush in 2004. Yet nearly half the country voted against him. With the final votes still being counted in some places, Trump won the popular vote by just 1.6 percentage points. He carried the seven top swing states by about 760,000 votes combined out of more than 151 million cast nationwide.

“The glass is half full. It was close. If we get another 2% or 3% of American voters, it would have successfully led to victories from the presidency on down,” says Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, who is leading a group called Governors Safeguarding Democracy.

But for Ken Martin, chair of the Minnesota Democratic-Labor-Farmer Party and a candidate to lead the Democratic National Committee next year, the election represented “a damning indictment” for the Democratic Party.

“People do not believe that the Democratic Party is fighting for them or for their families or gives a damn about their lives,” Martin told The Associated Press. “We lost ground with almost every group except wealthy households and college-educated voters.”

The internal debate over the health of the party comes at a critical moment.

Trump will return to the White House on Jan. 20, claiming a mandate to enact a dramatic “Make America Great Again” agenda led by the mass deportation of millions of immigrants in the country illegally; an overhaul of the federal departments of health, education and justice, and major import tariffs that threaten to strain the U.S. economy and international alliances alike.

Democrats, even diminished and divided, stand as the only organized resistance to Trump and his emboldened MAGA allies. But for now, at least, the Democratic Party has no leader and no agreement on the political problems that need to be fixed or how to fix them.

Many Democratic groups and leaders are working through post-election analyses to better understand what went wrong on Nov. 5, but few are working together. And already, some fear that the disparate post mortems will produce competing recommendations likely to be lost in a rush to leave the pain of 2024 behind.

Priorities USA, one of the Democratic Party's leading super PACs, is set to unveil its post-election findings this week. The group will recommend, among other things, that Democrats do a better job listening to voters instead of pollsters, while offering a more forward-looking positive alternative to Trump's MAGA movement.

If they do not make significant changes, according to a preview of that briefing, Priorities believes there is no guarantee that key elements of the Democratic base — especially young people and voters of color — will return to the party in future elections.

Some of the loudest voices calling for dramatic changes represent the party's far-left wing, which is often ignored by establishment Democrats who control the party's messaging, strategy and policy platform. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders irked some party leaders the day after the election with a scathing critique: “It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them.”

“While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change,” Sanders continued. “And they’re right.”
A number of Democratic leaders are downplaying the strength of Donald Trump's victory over Vice President Kamala Harris

Many on DL, too.

They don't realize or want to believe that everything changed on November 5th.

by Anonymousreply 1December 2, 2024 6:19 PM

If everything changing means it’s come down to hokey tropes like “brand” then the republic is beyond saving anyway.

by Anonymousreply 2December 2, 2024 6:25 PM

I simply don’t want to hear sanders anymore. He’s an effective politician but his quotes in these types of articles go nowhere.

by Anonymousreply 3December 2, 2024 6:35 PM

However can Democrats learn to reach across the aisle to lunatics and Nazis??

by Anonymousreply 4December 2, 2024 6:47 PM

The seriousness is that Americans, writ large and on average, fucking suck. How you do you get a nation of apathetic, selfish assholes to care about a functioning republic if they're willing to throw it all away cause the eggs and the Doordash is too damn high?

Not to mention, here once again, the press is being anti-Democratic by framing it as the party is in denial about their "problem". Not if a problem even exists, just that there is one and "they" won't do anything about it or some other stupid shit.

by Anonymousreply 5December 2, 2024 6:53 PM

However can good Americans learn to reach across the aisle to lunatics, and commies, and those who hate America and want to see trump voters dead.

Their view is as valid to them as yours is to you,

The Dems will reach across and recruit or learn to pray every four years that they have not been fucked once again by the EC and the American voters.

The Dems are now the minority party

by Anonymousreply 6December 2, 2024 6:54 PM

AOC For President!

by Anonymousreply 7December 2, 2024 7:00 PM

Ken Martin promises to be the next Howard Dean if elected as party chair. He wants to campaign in all 50 states and campaign in rural areas. This is what Dean did and it paid off in big dividends. Obama got rid of Dean for some reason, and Democrats have been getting clobbered in rural areas.

Martin has a better track record of winning than Ben Wikler in WI, who's also running for party chair. Under Martin's leadership, Democrats have taken over all branches of government in MN. Wikler couldn't even deliver WI for Harris.

by Anonymousreply 8December 2, 2024 7:03 PM

The Dems should have enacted policies which paid attention to the needs of the American family, rather than just allowing the trans lunacy ( men competing against women), the women's right to choose exclusivity ( their only real issue), an ignoring of the migration dilemma, and a total ignoring of the non-swing states ( look how that benefitted them) which led to the defeat of down ballot Dems, as voters were convinced that their votes didn't matter.

by Anonymousreply 9December 2, 2024 7:06 PM

Fuck Joe Biden. A friend of mine who is a congressional aide revealed to me— the Democratic Party may be permanently damaged from this. Because now a good portion of the American electorate believes the election actually was stolen in 2020 and Trump successfully avenged his crooks. It’s sad. It’s not going to be pretty these next four years.

FUCK JOE BIDEN.

by Anonymousreply 10December 2, 2024 7:08 PM

Congressional aides are never wrong.

by Anonymousreply 11December 2, 2024 7:10 PM
A number of Democratic leaders are downplaying the strength of Donald Trump's victory over Vice President Kamala Harris as the inevitable result of an inflation-fueled anti-incumbent backlash that shaped elections worldwide.

Anyone who claims this wasn’t at least part of the problem is a fool.

But it’s more than just this. Democrats have to figure out how to deal with the relentless rightwing propaganda being belched out by Fox News and other rightwing “media outlets” or they will be a permanent opposition party.

by Anonymousreply 12December 2, 2024 7:12 PM

Someone needs to audit the books so to speak. The numbers just don’t make sense.

by Anonymousreply 13December 2, 2024 7:16 PM

So Bernie's gonna start an American "Labour Party". Maybe Jeremy Corbin could come over and lend a helping hand.

by Anonymousreply 14December 2, 2024 9:14 PM

R14: Considering Corbin has left/was cleared out of the Labour Party, I'm not sure Sanders or anyone would want his "help".

by Anonymousreply 15December 3, 2024 12:04 AM

That’s the point.

by Anonymousreply 16December 3, 2024 12:15 AM

R16: You made it extremely badly then.

by Anonymousreply 17December 3, 2024 12:19 AM

I didn’t make it, dickhole, I just explained it.

by Anonymousreply 18December 3, 2024 12:21 AM

Here’s the real problem. Americans are willing to vote on a convicted felon pathological liar con artist based on “vibes”. No discussion of policy is going to change this for them. The Democratic Party doesn’t have the vibe because, frankly, a lot of people disliked Biden simply because he was old and looked it and Harris wasn’t male and white enough, though infinitely more qualified than the opponents. No amount of message is going to get through the right wing echo machine, since the US media is almost entirely right leaning and the public love the hostility and mean-spiritedness. People like the negativity and I’ve come to conclude that most people in this pathetic country are shit, for lack of a better word. It’s a different world we live in and no amount of adjustment to the message will even get through now.

by Anonymousreply 19December 3, 2024 12:47 AM

Let's not forget American voters inherent stupidity, R19.

Recent reports say Latino male voters opted for Trump because they saw him as anti-establishment.

How the fuck is a billionaire who attended an Ivy League school who inherited millions of dollars from his daddy anti-establishment? Trump is the embodiment of establishment.

by Anonymousreply 20December 3, 2024 1:30 AM

r20 They mean corporatism politics. They mean respectability politics. I am almost willing to move to Portugal. Thats how dumb down this country has become.

by Anonymousreply 21December 3, 2024 1:34 AM

Or, you know, they needed to demand a hand count in battleground states.

by Anonymousreply 22December 3, 2024 1:46 AM

Dems need to chill with the self-flagellation. July is too late to switch candidates, it’s that simple. Joe might have lost too but giving someone 100 days to run is simply not enough. We’re lucky it wasn’t worse.

Craven far leftists and far centrists are grabbing at the chance to “remake the party” because they didn’t like it anyway. It’s not necessary. We do need way better digital outreach and more dedication to combating lies and propaganda but that is really it. We should have pride in our values because they are good.

by Anonymousreply 23December 3, 2024 1:52 AM

Winning or losing is all that matters in the short term. But these things look a lot different years later. No one is defending the legacy of the Bushes or Nixon, and Republicans mostly ignore Reagan’s values that weren’t tax cuts. Just like they will forget Trump once it’s possible.

by Anonymousreply 24December 3, 2024 1:59 AM

I'm with those who say this was destined to be a "boot Biden the incumbent" election, it became a close one thanks to Harris, and it was not a wholesale national rejection of All Things Democrat.

It's fucking discouraging in the meantime, though, and the next few years are looking horrible.

by Anonymousreply 25December 3, 2024 2:00 AM

Trump may crash the economy well before midterms, so much of this handwringing may be for naught.

Or not. R9 has pointed out what the Democratic Party has become to huge swaths of voters. Those who raised these concerns or even questions were shamed and as incorrigible bigots, often by their own party. They didn’t vote for Trump so much as against Democrats.

Keep insulting them and calling them backwoods morons and you’ll see more moderates turning their backs by voting Republican or staying home.

The Trump campaign’s “She’s for they/them; he’s for us” was a stroke of brilliant simplicity. It wasn’t about just non-binary demands on revising concepts of gender and the accompanying grammatical mandates; it was about the top-down, inorganic, cultural shifts that have come directly out of the alignment of progressivism and academia that people don’t want. They’ve tried telling Democrats this to no avail.

Until November 5th.

by Anonymousreply 27December 3, 2024 2:14 AM

ILY Torta. You and this old broad:

12/2 Elizabeth Warren on X: Over 74 million Americans voted for Democrats in this election. They don’t expect us to roll over & play dead. And progressive policies—like paid sick leave, minimum wage increases, and abortion rights—won ballot measures around the country. I’m staying in the fight. --Trump’s tax breaks for the rich were so big Republicans had to use budget gimmicks and accounting tricks in order to hide the true cost. Next year, Democrats in Congress should flat out reject Trump's Tax Scam 2.0, and the junk math Republicans use to try to sell this thing.

by Anonymousreply 28December 3, 2024 2:24 AM

The Democrats had a strategic and a tactical problem, which they refused to recognize.

1 - They blame Kamala Harris for not being presidential material. As if that has stopped W. Bush, Trump, Carter, or Reagan. She was more qualified than the sainted Obama, about as qualified as Bill Clinton. Yet, it was HER, not the fact she was a black woman. Democrats choose to run unelectable candidates, like AOC.

2 - She faced a barrage of negative ads microtargeted at her coalition - especially black and Latino men. TPM wrote about it in late September. They were very negative, along the lines of Bush II's phone calls in S. Carolina primary that McCain had fathered a black child. NASTY STUFF.

Yet, the Democrats refused to fight fire with fire. They went with feel-good ads for maximum persuasiveness. Even negative ads you saw on the Internet or the convention found difficulty getting distributed.

You may ask why the Democrats do not feel they can respond to negative advertising. It works. Lying works.

by Anonymousreply 29December 3, 2024 2:25 AM

Trump will for sure crash the economy as quickly as possible, unless his dementia is so bad that he forgets he promised to do tariffs and spend billions on deporting all of the country’s farm labor.

by Anonymousreply 30December 3, 2024 2:32 AM

The Dems’ problem isn’t old age—there are plenty of older as well as younger, bright, intelligent, charismatic and hardworking workers including politicians across our country, always have been.

It’s just that we’ve had the misfortune of several of these elders being on the intense-media spotlight last several years alienating and stubbornly ignoring the wishes of many—Biden, Feinstein, Sanders, McConnell, Ginsburg, et al.—just all seemingly not being self-aware enough to stop hogging their world stage and permitting a newer or at least more diverse and compromising wave of Dems take the center-stage in their Party.

Their optics just have become bad. Including, most Americans don’t prioritize their progressives’ obsession with their special pronouns, purple-haired trans identities being prioritized and having their abortions taxes-supported. They kind of just want to pay their rents and mortgages, and spend less than $100 in a week for paper towels and coffee.

by Anonymousreply 31December 3, 2024 2:32 AM

It was the border.

by Anonymousreply 32December 3, 2024 2:37 AM

Wondered how many responses we'd get to before "let's shit on the trans" started.

Speaking of trans people, Republicans were told and believed that Harris was aggressively pushing trans rights, when she did no such thing. Other than just stating that all trans people should curl up and die, how was Harris supposed to combat blatantly false messaging? (trans rights, open borders, etc.)

by Anonymousreply 33December 3, 2024 2:39 AM

It was the trannies.

by Anonymousreply 34December 3, 2024 2:40 AM

r29 The democrats should have created ads looping over and over Trump making fun of Nancy Pelosi's husband almost being murdered. The dems are living in a 90s world, where respectability politics mattered, you know cause JESUS. FAKE ASS WACK ASS HYPOCRITICAL CONSERVATIVE CUNTS.

by Anonymousreply 35December 3, 2024 2:43 AM

So, the media has gone silent on the multiple BOMB THREATS targeting heavily Democratic areas on Election Day? The same bomb threats that originated in Russia?

Nothing on an active ATTACK in the US from Russia? Nothing?

The Democrats gave a problem, all right, it’s the goddamned legacy media ignoring an act of war to once again, suck up to Putin’s bitches.

Fuck these poorly concealed Putin propaganda pieces.

by Anonymousreply 37December 3, 2024 2:46 AM

Trump won the national vote by 1.5 points and the swing states by 250,000 votes. No matter how many articles phrase it that way, there was no sweeping victory. The only thing that changed on November 5 was that the Democrats returned to form and decided that voting and democracy were unimportant.

Everyone on here and elsewhere blaming Biden and Harris and Obama and Pelosi, need to place blame where it truly belongs with a bunch of lazy ass voters who decided to stay at home this time.

I don't think it's just that. It's an unwillingness or inability to do dirty work. The bald truth is that the fractured nature of social media allows for surreptitious, untruthful, and inflammatory attacks. Such lies and attacks are extremely effective if they target the right person.

Even in the early 2010s, I was at a backyard lunch where I was handed [bold] a pamphlet consisting of stapled and mimeographed(??) pages. It blamed everything on the Eternal Jew.[/bold] I was so surprised my graphic artist friend had such a thing, that [bold] I asked if I could keep it.[/bold]

The other women started talking about disconnected topics and someone quietly took it from my hands. Did I fail a test? I was never invited again.

I learned that a) they were deeply aware of the criminality their little pamphlet could lead to, and b) it was socially unacceptable. Now they have permission and a platform. And c) the little girl who had been my flower girl said "Jews" with such ferality, I was shocked. I had never seen a 10-year-old visage twist into the expression she displayed.

Alternatively, the Democratic Party could get its head out of its collective ass and start figuring out how to connect with the voters that it needs. How hard could it be, ffs? America's genius is supposed to be in marketing. Read the fucking room, and then sell to it.

by Anonymousreply 44December 3, 2024 6:35 AM

It's not gonna make a goddamn what they overhaul if they don't

𝑎) find a way to combat social media disinformation. A hundred different troll messages were deployed online to targeted constituencies to either discourage voting altogether or to get people to vote for someone other than the Dem candidate. Forms of dissatisfaction are extremely easy to market, and people ate that shit up. And...

𝑏) address themselves to finding out exactly how and in what precincts the actual vote was electronically skewed to register more votes for Trump - just enough to be able to eke out a win in the swing states. This election was not a straightforward win for the Repugs, and people need to stop pretending that it was.

by Anonymousreply 45December 3, 2024 6:50 AM

r44 - I agree with you on everything.

In particular, I find the audit of the swing states to be significant. How did Trump manage to end up just above the recount threshold in all those states? In the past, it was largely considered taboo to suggest that elections could be manipulated, mainly because both parties believed such claims would discourage voter turnout. However, Trump made these allegations for four years, and his turnout did not seem to be affected.for four years and his turnout was not affected.

by Anonymousreply 46December 3, 2024 8:06 AM

The Dems go from its ok we lost but we won the popular vote, as if that meant anything, to ok we lost but we almost won the popular vote.

This is how the Dems will fight back ignoring reality and actual results and down playing the fact that the gop now owns the press that counts, the house, the senate, the WH with a soon to be president that grows more popular after his recent win not less popular.

“It was not so bad we made it to their lines and we almost won—-let’s try the same thing once again”

That's true, but one thing is for sure, had Biden and that useless merrick garland had trump investigated for the insurrection, trump would have been in jail and NEVER would have been able to run for president. Although he probably would have tried it and the democrats would have let him. They're so useless.

Instead Joe Biden was more worried about his useless, piece of shit, junkie son. He was hoping if the authorities didn't investigate trump for one of the worst crimes to happen on American soil and from the highest office in the land, no less, they wouldn't go after that shitbag hunter. Even when the repugs went after Joe's shitbag son, he should have gotten garland to go after trump. BUT NO. Biden's that useless old, school type of democrat who has been letting the repugs get away with crimes for 5 decades. Those fucking idiot old school dimwits always just want to "move ahead". God damn. They never fucking learn. NEVER. He wouldn't even fight for his own son. God damn.

And now America has lost democracy and Joe pardoned his piece of shit son anyway (which I have no problem with. trump would have done the same thing & so would I). But Joe, being the fucking idiot that he is, had just recently said that he WOULD NEVER PARDON HIS SON. He should have just shut the fuck up. But he can't help himself. He ALWAYS steps in shit.

In other words, how do you combat centuries of bias against women and rampant, ignorant stupidity and sexism on the part of men. Also, a lot of men have unresolved "mommy issues" which would prevent them from voting for a female President and basically hate women.

Jill and her daughter got to go to Chuck's coronation

Jill and Joe went to Liz's wedding

They attended all the fancy meetings in Europe, Jill held hands with Macron when Joe froze.

Hunter was taken care of. Probably got a special Christmas present too. What the poor thing went through.

One granddaughter got a White House wedding.

Did you see the Christmas decorations?

And left us with the country a mess, Ukraine in tatters and about to be massacred, and Trump on the rampage.

Kamala didn't run a campaign based on her gender or her race.

She reached out to Republicans and swing voters relentlessly. She did not make Trump's unfitness the center of her campaign. She even abandoned the whole "republicans are weird" thing.

She ran the exact campaign that centrist pundits and commentators say they want.

And she lost.

People were mad about inflation and Biden (for reasons I don't understand, actually) was really unpopular. It was the Democratic base that didn't show up. Those three things spelled doom.

by Anonymousreply 68December 3, 2024 7:14 PM

NOBODY but NOBODY in the Democratic Party is celebrating single mama culture.

Maybe some of the bitches and hos in your milieu who spend their gubmint checks on weaves and shit celebrate single motherhood. But NOBODY in the Democratic Party is celebrating and advocating for single motherhood.

Or perhaps you just have your own unresolved mommy issues.

R61 JHC the Dems did not lose those many men who voted for trump because Harris was shit at doing benches or dead lifts. They were not voting for Joe either. Nor Pete nor any of the rest.

Funny how the people most enthusiastic about freedom of speech are in charge of what speech gets perpetuated. [bold]Trump won because he tapped into hate. Republicans hate woman, they hate Immigrants, they hate LGBTQ, they hate diversity, they hate science and they hate an honest reporters and the press. The only way Democrats can win is if they beat them at their own game. Moving more and more to the center does not work. [bold]Hate Works!

Today in NPR's politics newsletter:
The margin for the popular vote in this year’s presidential election is the second-closest since 1968, and it’s still tightening. With 96% of the vote in, Trump has 49.97% and Vice President Harris has 48.36%, according to the Associated Press. These results show that Trump doesn't exactly have the "unprecedented and powerful mandate" he claimed on election night. The margin shows how closely divided the country is politically and that any shift to the right is marginal.

Obama did irreparable damage by getting rid of Howard Dean as party chair. His 50 State policy was making good progress in rural areas in all 50 states when he was chair of the Democratic party. Ever since Dean was fired, Democrats have been struggling to win races in more than half the country. If we had kept Dean, we could be in control of the House and the presidency right now.

by Anonymousreply 86December 3, 2024 8:13 PM

50 State solution is a RHINO plan. Give it up already. Kamala had a huge ground game, Trump has almost none. Dean did not exist the same time as social media and Joe Rogan influencers.

We do our research and we look for facts.

Republican Fox News MAGATS are brain dead.

They care nothing about facts.

All they want is an echo chamber that will spew out the same lies and bullshit over and over again, because it's what they want to hear.

Even if you laid the bare facts in front of these people, they wouldn't care.

Because it's not what they want to hear.

That's why the Fox propaganda channel works on MAGATS.

1) What happened to 5 million Biden voters?

2) Non-college-educated white voters turned out hard for Trump.

3) Black and Brown numbers were down. Hispanic men broke for Trump, but Hispanic women more or less canceled that out. Trump made progress with black men, but there was no huge shift.

Trump is back in the White House for one reason and one reason only, non-college-educated white voters. I'm going to make a guess and assume that 40% of them are unreachable to Democrats. Out of the remaining 60%, half would entertain voting Democratic if the republican shits the bed; a charismatic, game-changing candidate may sway the other half.

But Democrats are in this constant delicate dance to try to appeal to progressive urban whites, conservative blacks, and Hispanics, younger and super progressive blacks and Hispanics, moderates, and independents. They couldn't pay me enough to run the DNC.

Martina should stop worrying about trans people and start worrying when all the women she sexually harassed over the years will come forward.

by Anonymousreply 167December 6, 2024 11:35 PM
The screaming fits against trans people echo almost exactly the panics surrounding gay teachers in the 80s.

No it's not. You are totally wrong.

Men invading women's spaces can in no way be compared to gay issues and causes.

I like how people who do not identify as gay want us to throw the Ts under the bus. The LGBT community is a civil rights movement. It is a movement against the white overlords telling everyone else., who is and who isn't a second class citizen. We are all citizens period.

by Anonymousreply 173December 7, 2024 4:08 AM

R157 I said that too. And remember Trump’s meeting with black journalists. All female journalists on stage. Not one black man. Big mistake. I can’t believe a sista involved, couldn’t realize the optics of that would be disastrous and insist on having a black male in media.

by Anonymousreply 174December 7, 2024 4:16 AM

r173 explain then the existence of males that have zero sexual and gender attraction to women ( homosexual/ cis gender), and this other group that get sexually aroused by them and have strong gender attraction to them to the point of mutilating and changing their own bodies to look like the opossite sex (heterosexual-trans) . the link between these two completely contraries are the homosexual-trans. the homosexual-trans are puzzled they are constantly asking to themselves, why would my fellow homosexual men do not like to change their bodies to look like females, why is it that we do not see more homosexual men transitioning, like me?, they also have this nagging question that goes on and on and on inside their heads, why? why? why is it that some of my fellow transgenders do not like to suck cock, they like to have sec with females? that’s crazy, how can that be possible ?why is it that they prefer to lick pussies and fondle breast? why cant some of my fellow transgenders allow me to suck their cocks and prefer females to suck their cocks? how can that be even possible? this homosexual-trans are the face of the trans movement, and the ones who do everything they can to maje homosexual-cis genders accept the whole transexuality issue as if it was a homosexual’s one. there was a new a few months ago in latin america of a transgender entering a female restroom and he was caught jerking off with his cock fully erected. probably the guy gets off smelling the toilet or vaginal used tampons that women left in those restrooms. mind you, that same guy pretty sure goes to gay prides waving the rainbow flag even though he doesn’t have the least desire to be sexually with another men.

by Anonymousreply 175December 7, 2024 5:09 AM
I like how people who do not identify as gay want us to throw the Ts under the bus.

No they don't.

They just don't feel that transgender people belong lumped together with the LGB.

Transgender is a whole other issue.

Gay men are happy with their sex.

by Anonymousreply 176December 7, 2024 5:18 AM

R173 white overlords are running the LGBT community also.

by Anonymousreply 177December 7, 2024 1:17 PM

No, r137, they qualify as Coastal Liars and Hypocrites.

The term "Coastal Elites" is a concocted Right-Wing attempt, in the style of GHWB's "Harvard boutiques" (said a Yalie), to imply that Democrats are out-of-touch, over-educated, Ivory Tower, wealthy snobs who simply do not and cannot "relate" to "regular Americans," unlike, of course, the "salt of the Earth," Blue-Collar, Community College, minimum-wage, backyard picnic Republican politicians.

And now the term is considered by the media as neutral, when it is anything but.

by Anonymousreply 178December 7, 2024 3:21 PM

So you think that if Democrats and gay people were shitty and awful to trans people, Harris would have won?

Sure.

The trans loons are hyperfixated weirdos.

It's instructive that their most prominent spokesperson is Elon Musk.

Just like the white overlords did not know any Willie Hortons in real life but were booga booga'd about them on TV.

Our actual enemy is Fox/Advertising/Marketing/Analytics that does the research on the next group that IS EATING THE DOGS!

It is Fox' ability to push out crap that is eagerly swallowed by Trump's "I love the uneducated" uneducated that is our true enemy.

Fox is the enemy that creates MAGA enemies. (I believe that QAnon is their beta).

by Anonymousreply 181December 7, 2024 4:41 PM

R181 It is social media that helped Trump win. That is where the action is.

The Gen Z, the Hispanic men that made the difference this election aren't watching Fox News. BTW: the age of the average Fox viewer is 70.

“The elites” are those fuckers in the same line of work as that healthcare CEO that got shot in NY.

More of those elites need to be taken out. Maybe then we could have nice things.

by Anonymousreply 183December 7, 2024 5:11 PM

r182, Fox vets it and pushes it out to the internet.

News Corp: Includes the Wall Street Journal, The New York Post, The Australian, The Herald Sun, The Sun, and The Times. News Corp also includes HarperCollins, a book publisher, and digital real estate services.

Fox Corporation: Includes Fox News, Fox Business, Fox Sports, FX, and National Geographic Channels. Murdoch's son, Lachlan, runs the new Fox. Sky News Australia: A television broadcasting channel.

Murdoch's media empire also includes major newspapers and television outlets in Australia and Britain

Murdoch feeds his media and the Internet picks it up.

Social Media is never a primary feed. It is a distributor of Murdochrap.

The enemy is the source of mis and dis information.

Murdochrap.

Trans hating loons have to go this far to find some kind of confirmation of their fever dreams:
there was a new a few months ago in latin america of a transgender entering a female restroom and he was caught jerking off with his cock fully erected

So...a few months ago, there was a new[s] item in LATIN FUCKING AMERICA of ONE trans person being gross.

What are we supposed to do with this information? Assuming it's even true?

You people are sick and weird and need help.

by Anonymousreply 185December 7, 2024 6:58 PM

Pod Saves America and Brian Tyler Cohen's podcasts/videos get far more viewers and listeners than MSNBC and CNN. They also have far more influence among Democrats than cable news hosts. PSA did successful voter events this year that the Harris campaign should have participated in. It was a big mistake for Harris not to do their shows.

by Anonymousreply 186December 7, 2024 7:22 PM

In this case, r185, I agree. This was most likely just a pervert who put on a dress to do what he did, not a genuine Transgender.

by Anonymousreply 187December 7, 2024 7:37 PM

R184 Nope, sorry....the GenZ, the Hispanic men that pushed Trump over the top are not sitting around reading the Wall Street Journal, The New York Post, The Australian, The Herald Sun, The Sun, and The Times. Etc.

by Anonymousreply 193December 7, 2024 9:16 PM

R167 god, you’re ignorant, no offense. But are you even out of high school yet? Renee Richards was one of the first transsexuals in US sports in the 1960s, who started winning women's tennis championships at age 40, and then sued for and gained entrance into the U.S. Women's Open around 1970–in your elegant words, putting on a dress and winning at tennis against bio women athletes.

She has since regretted her participation in women's sports:
And Richards has come to believe that her past as a man did provide her advantages over competitors. “Having lived for the past 30 years, I know if I’d had surgery at the age of 22, and then at 24 went on the tour, no genetic woman in the world would have been able to come close to me. And so I’ve reconsidered my opinion.”
She adds, “There is one thing that a transsexual woman unfortunately cannot expect to be allowed to do, and that is to play professional sports in her chosen field. She can get married, live as woman, do all of those other things, and no one should ever be allowed to take them away from her. But this limitation—that’s just life. I know because I lived it.”

Not that I think this brand-new piece of sports history will induce you to change your mind by a single brain cell (assuming facts not in evidence)—just that it might remind others of us that a lot of this debate has been ongoing for decades.

Serena Williams, by the way, has said the same in reverse: that she'd be unable to beat the top 100 seeded male tennis players.

It is a travesty for the Biden admin to have allowed this unpopular issue to dominate their policy all throughout Biden's presidency. And the Repubs are crossing their stubby fingers and dirty toes and hoping that the DNC will continue to be just as obtuse in 2028.

And then there's this...
the Biden admin to have allowed this unpopular issue to dominate their policy

Biden didn't ALLOW anything. The Rs (funded by millions from Musk, who hates his trans daughter) have relentlessly made it so. What is Biden supposed to do? Publicly hate trans people? How would he go about doing that? And in a way that would satisfy loonies like you? Would anyone even realize it if he did it?

The only thing Dems can do about this "issue" is refuse to take the bait and let crazy fucks like you stew in their own hatred. Because, believe it or not, there are voters who don't want to see the Dems succumb to this hysteria. There are votes to lose on the other side of your bigotry and panic.

by Anonymousreply 195December 9, 2024 11:50 AM

I think the trans flashing his/her tits on the WH grounds for the press to see after a meeting with Biden showed the country where the Dems stood on this issue.

The sounds of silence

by Anonymousreply 196December 9, 2024 12:01 PM

Condemning that action and also not supporting the male swimmer on the Penn swim team would have been easy wins for them. Just a more middle of the road stance instead of going in 100 on the issue.

by Anonymousreply 197December 9, 2024 12:29 PM

His stupidity is in full display during his Piers Morgan appearances. And his podcast: "Surprise news shifts race DRAMATICALLY in Kamala’s favor", "Trump descends into FULL PANIC as fear of Kamala hits FEVER PITCH', " Trump SCRAMBLES as his campaign suffers FATAL blow", Trump makes FATAL MISTAKE in Pennsylvania, "OMG: Trump makes FATAL MISTAKE in FINAL MOMENTS of last rally", "Trump PANICS amid CAMPAIGN-ENDING blow". And he put so much effort in trying to convince his listeners that Joe Biden was sharp as a tack when ANYONE could see what his condition was.

I'm on your side of this issue, but unfortunately I'd respectfully disagree on this point.

The GOP pushed the "OMG Kamala is transing the childrens in school!" point relentlessly, and it stuck. It's absolute, pure 100% horseshit, but it stuck. The thing the Dems need to figure out quickly is how to combat the flood of pure horseshit the GOP pushed on social media, because it unfortunately worked.

Refuse to take the bait = be quiet and let Dems or Harris past statements speak for themselves.

It was Harris who said that federal prisoners should get tax payer paid for sex changes. MAGA did not make that up. And Harris never said that was a mistake.

It was Dems or libs generally supporting men playing in girls sports.

The Dems set the table and then let the gop come in and feast on the goodies while the Dems said almost nothing.

Bill Clinton warned Harris that this was an issue that was going to bite the Dems in the ass.

So far based on comments I’d say the Dems or liberals have learned exactly 0.

by Anonymousreply 209December 9, 2024 4:31 PM

R208 No don’t do that. Respect their gender. I won’t do the they/them shit because that’s just some narcissistic bullshit. But I will respect the new sex or gender(I forget which term is appropriate) of a trans person.

Chicks who once had dicks

The world is not that fucking complicated. OK for Dems it might well be.

by Anonymousreply 211December 9, 2024 4:43 PM

R211 I think it’s just hateful as fuck to call someone who has gone through the mental anguish of realizing they are not the same sex as their sexual organs and to not respect their new sex. It’s backed by the scientific community. And no I don’t believe children should transition. Just curious , are you male or female? Gay, straight or bi?

by Anonymousreply 212December 9, 2024 4:58 PM

We lost the SC then we went and lost the WH, the Senate, and the House. The only hope now is the GOP fucking up really really bad, The Dems in their own are fucked.

Of course the real issue is what we call Dylan

by Anonymousreply 214December 9, 2024 5:03 PM

R212, there's no such thing as not being the same sex as your sexual organs. There is no scientific community backing for the notion of being "born in the wrong body" or of being "a woman trapped in a man's body". It's funny that you mention scientific community backing, however, as you say you do not support transing kids - well, the trans lobby keeps telling us that there is tons of scientific backing for their child mutilation practices. Surely if you supported the idea that there are people who are not of the same sex as their sexual organs because there is supposedly scientific community backing for it, then you support transing kids too as the same scientific community allegedly backs that too.

As for Dylan Mulvaney, he's nothing but a conman.

by Anonymousreply 217December 9, 2024 5:59 PM

No, R217, I am not "discussing trans issues." There are no 'trans issues,' and people who think there are

a) have too much time on their hands, and

b) cannot mind their own goddamned business.

None of it affects your life in any way. Leave them alone.

by Anonymousreply 218December 9, 2024 6:21 PM

R218 of course the trans issue had absolutely no impact on the recent national election. None at all

I trust Bill Clinton more than you on this issue. And Bill does not agree with you at least as far as winning elections and the trans issue,. And he called that long before the Dems lost.

But maybe winning elections is not as important?

by Anonymousreply 219December 9, 2024 7:03 PM

Lia Thomas has a direct effect on the lives and business of female college swimmers in the US, and by extension of all female athletes, given that if the principle he epitomises of males being permitted to compete in women's sports is universally accepted then women's sport is dead. By extension, that then affects the lives and business of all women, as if men are permitted into our spaces and to take over our activities then we won't have the right to do much.

by Anonymousreply 220December 9, 2024 7:05 PM

Lia Thomas helped Trump win the election. He is not the reason but he is a reason. As is Dylan. America put its foot down , it’s tired if this shit, and the Harris team refused to listen. There were told but they knew better.

by Anonymousreply 221December 9, 2024 7:14 PM

Why do you keep calling trans women, he. It’s like calling a Spanish person a spic or something. Likewise if a trans man, she. It’s a complete slur, you should stop.

by Anonymousreply 222December 9, 2024 7:18 PM
There are no 'trans issues,'

Stupidest comment yet.

by Anonymousreply 223December 9, 2024 7:20 PM

R222, since when was "he" a slur? It's the pronoun used to refer to male people. Transwomen are male. They are not women. Dylan Mulvaney and Lia Thomas are men. Referring to them as he is entirely correct. Even you refer to Mulvaney as he, because your brain registers him as male whenever you see a pic of him.

"She" is also not a slur. Both Chase Strangio and I are a she. I don't consider being referred to as she a slur.

Your posts are a perfect example of why the Democrats lost.

by Anonymousreply 224December 9, 2024 7:26 PM

But the scientific world and their spiritual bodies feel like they are women so why not just respect them.

by Anonymousreply 225December 9, 2024 7:45 PM

1. MAGA true believers who are delusional, conspiracy loving, racist, sexist morons.

2. People who are not critical thinkers and who do not pay any attention to politics.

3. Selfish people who know better, but who care more about taxes..

Many of these people believed this imbecile was a successful businessman because they watched a reality tv show. They have short-term memories and forget about this buffoon's first term in office.

And I truly believe half the country prefers an authoritarian leader who tells them what to do and what to think.

Well my Trans friend voted for Trump r239, had a long debate over it on FB. So explain that.

by Anonymousreply 240December 10, 2024 11:47 AM

R238 are you worried about the state of the gop and are giving them advice for 2028?

The issue is delusional Dems thinking they almost won. How stupid is that?

That is the problem unless your concerns are more helping the gop than the Dems .

by Anonymousreply 241December 10, 2024 11:55 AM

And yet, Republicans claim that a .5% win is a fucking MANDATE.

What's typically being screamed about aren't Dem policies to begin with. Like how they're supposedly pro-inflation, pro-abortion, in favor of open borders, transing kids - complete bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 246December 10, 2024 5:05 PM

Voters don't care about policies. Or at least what they think about policies is based on vibes.

They just got a (stupid, wrong) vibe that Trump is better for the economy and will bring prices down.

He won't but there's practically no arguing with that.

In other words, “it’s neoliberalism, stupid.”
Can the Dems just stop rationalizing and take a good look at changing their policies to better serve the voters?

I said it before and I will say it again. If you want to scold Dems for being out of touch with real voters, stop pretended what really motivates Republican. Lets be brutally honest, its HATE that motivates MAGA which trickles down to Republicans. They HATE Immigrants, they HATE Progressives, they HATE the Educators, they HATE Science, they HATE honest debates, they HATE LGBT, they hate Women.

You can rationalize that's not what they want or that they are not all like that but you are living in your bubble as well. So the cold hard truth is, if Democrats want to win, they have to go where the voters are and that means Dems have to create a campaign based on HATE.

Not hate of Donald Trump, that's just preaching the the choir. Republicans, MAGA and the Right are motivated mostly by hate, so meet them where they are or risk losing with lofty ideas again.

by Anonymousreply 252December 10, 2024 8:51 PM

R252 could you repeat that again?

by Anonymousreply 253December 10, 2024 9:00 PM

I will keep repeating it because I am tired of "this is what Dems did wrong" but then they wont admit the real driving force behind what motivated Republicans more than any other issue was hate of other individuals.

by Anonymousreply 254December 10, 2024 9:04 PM
And want us to play along.

That is the thing right there. You're not "playing along." You're "leaving them alone."

Trans people - for the most part - want to be left alone.

But the lunatics currently in control of the Republican party (and of the DL) want to actively make their lives miserable because they find it offensive to call someone Sharon when that person used to be called Steve.

However, please don't expect me to consider you female just because you're wearing a dress.

by Anonymousreply 258December 11, 2024 5:11 AM

by Anonymousreply 259December 11, 2024 6:15 AM

R256, what an odd pick to prove a point. Such a sparsely populated county on the border of Mexico is how you explain the voting across 50 states? It's mostly farmland, desert, and a dead lake called the Salton Sea, one of the poorest parts of the state.

by Anonymousreply 263December 11, 2024 3:19 PM

r262, no, the Dem's problems are not someone else's fault.

The narrative is controlled by the Fox/Analytic/Marketing Advertising.

When you can spin a booming economy on the continuous bleating of the price of eggs and spin border control on LEGAL immigrants eating dogs, then you have lost the narrative and Capitalist's siren song that you cannot trust the government wins out over TWO FUCKING TRILLION DOLLARS IN DIRECT AID TO STATES AND COUNTIES.

Democrats should have run on their record. PERIOD.

by Anonymousreply 264December 11, 2024 4:57 PM

Well the problem is that the name at the top of that record was Biden, who was hated, it seems, for reasons I still can't really understand.

He beat Covid, engineered a pretty astonishing economic comeback, actually got us out of Afghanistan after Trump saying he would and didn't. But the price of eggs went way up (and then down again) so Harris was in a fix that she couldn't quite figure out.

by Anonymousreply 265December 11, 2024 5:24 PM

Democrats tan on their record. People don’t care because their record wasn’t reported. No matter the speeches or facts.

People in this country are flat out IMMUNE to facts. Facts do not matter to the majority of Americans. They’re uneducated, hate the educated and worship at mega churches, adore pro wrestling and listen to idiots with a microphone.

The only thing Americans care about is their fucking fefes. Biden is old- he’s embarrassing me! Kamala is a black woman! I can’t vote for that! Eggs are too high. Gas is too high. I can’t buy a big ass new truck!

Always wahhh waaahhh wasaahhh! I can’t get what I want RIGHT NOW! It’s the Democrats fault! All of the media they consume says so.

by Anonymousreply 266December 11, 2024 5:36 PM
Biden, who was hated, it seems, for reasons I still can't really understand.

It was a sales job by America's most criminal salesman. Democrats never held up Trump to his record, of stealing from his charity, stealing from his fake University...THEY ARE EATING THE DOGS... coordinating an insurrection to topple the government...THE CRIMINALS ARE CROSSING THE BORDER... keeping state secrets illegally... THE PRICE OF EGGS IS THROUGH THE ROOF.

It was all about creating the narrative.

by Anonymousreply 267December 11, 2024 5:37 PM

The three tenets of Republicans is:

Keep Americans Stupid.

Keep Americans Sick.

Keep Americans Poor.

And Americans were stuoid enough to reelect Trump.

by Anonymousreply 268December 11, 2024 5:40 PM
Well the problem is that the name at the top of that record was Biden, who was hated, it seems, for reasons I still can't really understand.

I think part of the problem was that the Biden administration didn't acknowledge the hardship of inflation early enough. They were (justifiably) touting the economic recovery and they kept talking about declining inflation even as people were paying 30% more for grocery items that kept shrinking in size. It felt a bit like gaslighting. Biden needed to show people that he "felt their pain" early and repeatedly.

Ultimately, I don't know that it would have made a difference in this very strange election, but I hope future Democratic officeholders take a lesson from this.

by Anonymousreply 269December 11, 2024 6:06 PM

Democrats and republicans and all humans know that life is based on brutal, winner-take-all competition. But republicans are able to be honest with themselves and celebrate that brutality, making it their god, reveling in the euphoria of rage. While democrats have to nervously pretend that life is a nice, cheery, pleasant place and that competition is fair, while its clear economically that's not the case. The economy is two stretched to make that lie work anymore. The cognitive dissonance is getting harder and harder to maintain for all people, which is why Trump was 'catharsis' for republicans, while Kamala was 'logically acceptable' for democrats.

by Anonymousreply 270December 11, 2024 6:10 PM
I think part of the problem was that the Biden administration didn't acknowledge the hardship of inflation early enough.

Biden should have gone on TV and said. LISTEN FUCKERS< I SENT YOU TWO TRILLION DOLLARS IN DIRECT STATE AND COUNTY ASSISTANCE.

TWO TRILLION DOLLARS.

What did your states do with all the cash? We see you Iowa, you ultimately went to a regressive flat state tax.

STFU

by Anonymousreply 271December 11, 2024 6:14 PM

*the economy is too stretched

by Anonymousreply 272December 11, 2024 6:16 PM

Everybody needs to stop over-analyzing the election. Trump won for exactly two reasons. The first being inflation after a global pandemic, which has toppled incumbent governments all over the world for the past 2 years. The second reason is that Trump turns out his base and unlikely voters like no other Republican in decades.

If the economy is poor in 2026 and 28, then Democrats will sweep. Also, Democrats win handily when Trump isn't on the ballot. Good news is that Trump can't run again, and that isn't going to change.

by Anonymousreply 273December 11, 2024 6:44 PM

by Anonymousreply 274December 11, 2024 6:53 PM

No it wasn't.
But the price of eggs went way up (and then down again) so Harris was in a fix that she couldn't quite figure out.

It's charming that some Democrats think Trump won just because of the price of eggs.

That's how out of touch they are.

by Anonymousreply 276December 11, 2024 7:02 PM

> You have not been paying attention if you think it is for only two reasons.

Don’t worry. If we try the same thing that has failed by progressively larger margins over the last three major cycles, it’s sure to eventually work.

Why listen to rank-and-file Democrats in touch with everyday working people? Those people vote against their own interests.

I’m sure that if we double down on the far-left TikTok politics, it will bring us to prominence in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Wisconsin and Michigan.

by Anonymousreply 277December 11, 2024 7:38 PM

The thing I don't get is that when people remember the Trump admin, they block out Covid. And don't blame him for it. But when people think about the Biden admin, they don't think about job and wage growth. They think about inflation. And blame him for it.

by Anonymousreply 281December 12, 2024 1:14 AM

R286 No it's not.

It is IDIOTIC to claim that prices have gone dowe (see post R284) . Prices have not gone down (see post R285).

As to WHY to why prices rose during that time period is certainly debatable, but either way, the public ALWAYS blames the President, no matter who is in power.

No one will. First of all - Trump will go on and on about how he's not to blame. Conservative media (which is most of the media) will echo him. Legacy media will be too scared of bomb threats and SWATting to contradict anyone. People who actually know the truth will feel isolated and insane.

If prices go up, Americans will blame China, immigrants or the Clintons but not Trump.
