He lived this well painting squares inside rectangles and he STILL killed himself.
Tasteful friends, it’s the Upper East Side duplex that once belonged to legendary artist Mark Rothko

The exterior is beautiful and filled with promise. Unfortunately a successful suburban dentist's house with the maximum number of bedrooms and bathrooms has been squeezed into the interior. Where it should have been arranged as three or four grand, high spaces (recalling the vastness of Rothko's studio) and had a few isolated bedrooms and baths and a beautiful interesting kitchen, it's just boring.
How do you fuck up and suburbanize a size like that? There's not a hint of anything that recalls it having been an import space of art and ideas. What a pity.

I like it. Lots of stairs, though. The meditation room (?) with the tatami mats looks pretentious, though. I'd just change it into a regular bedroom. I've lived in Japan before and actually enjoyed sleeping in my tatami mat bedroom w/futon on the floor.

The warren of rooms with little natural light remind me of my doctor's office.
