This article from the Washington Post says that Hunter's legal team looks to be angling for a pardon in a legal filing related to Hunter's sentencing: "The document at times seems aimed directly at President Joe Biden, who has repeatedly said that he will not pardon or commute the sentences of his son."
I don't care if Hunter is pardoned. Trump will almost surely make political hay out of it. And he'll overdo it, thus neutralizing any political advantage he might otherwise obtain.
So just do it and get it over with.

He might as well do it. Trump might try to make it an issue, but Joe Biden has no future in politics and no reputation left to preserve.
No one will be asking any future Democratic candidates whether they think Joe was right to pardon his son, and even if they do, no one will feel obligated to defend either one of them.
