The two they did were so good.
But I noticed the Witt Thomas shows weren't big on them. It's a Living had none, Empty Nest and Nurses only had one each.

Yes, they should have. It would have been nice for them to throw in a Thanksgiving episode or two, as well. New Year's and Halloween were also skipped on the Golden Girls.

I hate the Golden Girls Christmas episodes...
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 15, 2024 8:33 PM |
I think maybe part of it was how often a show would be shown near the actual holiday. Like “Friends”!did a ton of Thanksgiving episodes - I’m pretty sure they would run the actual episodes on Thanksgiving. not to mention sometimes shows didn’t want a lot of holiday episodes in their syndication packages. Just an odd comment - King of Queens and Roseanne seemed to have tons of Christmas episodes.

R3...and Roseanne was the Queen of Halloween episodes. The Middle did some great Halloween and Thanksgiving episodes.

Let's make up some Christmas storylines then:
Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia and Rose are meant to have their families over for lunch, but a sudden storm warning means they cannot make it.

Rose cooks a holiday meal but forgets to turn on the oven so they have to go to a Chinese restaurant. Stan is the waiter.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 15, 2024 8:45 PM |
Rose accidentally signs up the girls to be in her church's Christmas pageant. Blanche is a slutty Mary. Dorothy's a wiseman. Rose is an ass. Sophia is the little drummer boy. Hilarity ensues.

Blanche invites all the ladies to spend Christmas at Hollingsworth Manor for a real Southern Christmas. Blanche gets into a big fight with Virginia. By the end, they've somehow all discovered the true meaning of Christmas.

R9. Is Skippy there or has his asthma prevented his travels?

Dorothy and Sophia take Rose and Blanche to New York City for Christmas. Rose tries to ice skate at Rockefeller Center. Blanche meets a man at Radio City Music Hall, while Dorothy and Sophia meet a homeless child at Grand Central Station.

A Golden Christmas Carol
Dorothy plays Scrooge (naturally, of course), Blanche plays a sexy ghost of Christmas past, Rose plays a naive ghost of Christmas present (she thinks she’s supposed to bring presents), and Sophia plays a scary ghost of Christmas future. “Picture it. Sicily…”
It turns out it was a nightmare and they all share their favorite Christmas stories while eating Christmas cookies and desserts.

The Girls go to Brooklyn to be with Dorothy's family.
Sophia and Dorothy visit their old apartment. A flashback to Brooklyn, 1952. Estelle Getty plays Sophia without being aged. Sal is heard, but not seen. Young Dorothy was saving up all year to get Ma and Pa a new stove. Sophia was saving up all year to give Dorothy a special Christmas bonus because Dorothy works so hard and married a yutz. They cry and have a heartfelt moment before Stan comes in delivering the new stove.
Meanwhile, Rose and Blanche get lost in New York. Blanche asks for directions and flirts with Mr. Trentwell Harrison Buffington IV, a Wall Street tycoon. Rose asks a homeless man directions, who gets them further lost in an alley.
Sophia ends up pepper spraying kid thugs who are going to rob them. Hilarity ensues.

R12 LOL you and I had the same idea! Our comments posted at the same time.

I am dumb. I meant R11 and I am R13, not OP.

R12 and R14 They pretty much did that on the Golden Palace minus Dorothy

I can’t recall many shows over the years that did New Year’s episodes. It never seemed to be a sitcom staple like some of the other holidays. I think “Mad About You” did one once but that’s the only one I can think of.

R17 Friends, Maude, and Designing Women did New Year's episodes

R17/R18: Absolutely Fabulous did a New Year episode in 1994, the one with Jackie Stone. I watch it every year after Christmas. But yeah, most sitcoms stay away from it.

Dateline Miami could be considered a New Years episode, even though that segment was dreadful

Rose gets a turkey stick on her head while cleaning it out so the girls have to spend Christmas day in the ER.
Sophia helps an old lady see that life is worth living.
Dorothy teaches the value of health insurance to some punks.
Blanche gets ploughed by a handsome Doctor who turns out to be married.

Designing Women actually did two New Year's episodes. The one where the girls think Charlene's friend has broken out of prison to come after them, and then the two-part episode where Olivia was born.

R24 I was going to suggest he was only posing as a Dr as he wanted to impress Blanche, but she actually couldn't care less he lied as he hit her G-spot good!

I liked the Frasier New Year episode, it was for The New Millennium!
