Anderson Cooper’s career

How did Anderson Cooper jump from being a reality show host (The Mole) to a news anchor seemingly overnight?

I remember when he was a nobody on The Mole and the Hollywood publicity machine made him out to be the second coming.

BJs.

Op must be a troll. AC did serious investigative journalism prior to becoming host of The Mole. And The Mole was considered sophisticated reality tv you hateful cunt.

by Anonymousreply 2November 30, 2024 4:24 PM

Maybe he IS the second coming!

Mommy money counts for something

by Anonymousreply 4November 30, 2024 4:26 PM

Mommy blew through whatever money Grandma hadn’t, and had to hustle jeans. AC was well off but not independently wealthy.

Oxymoron

Serious investigative journalists don’t become reality TV hosts

by Anonymousreply 7November 30, 2024 4:42 PM

Nepo Baby par excellence.

by Anonymousreply 8November 30, 2024 4:44 PM

Mr. Cooper is part of the problem with corpse media. He is worthy of a block.

by Anonymousreply 9November 30, 2024 4:47 PM

He lies so fucking much - you want us to believe you were raised just a middle class boy on the Upper East Side, going to private schools and your mom was Gloria Vanderbilt?

She transferred all her money over to him via a trust years before she died - you think she really had only a 1 million dollar apt to her name and that's it?

He annoys the hell out of me because he does not acknowledge his privilege at all - on the contrary, he actively tries to promote this myth of the self-made man.

by Anonymousreply 10November 30, 2024 4:50 PM

He was on nyc news channel tv1 I believe before "the mole."

by Anonymousreply 11November 30, 2024 4:54 PM

R7 Oh I forgot to renew my prescription.

by Anonymousreply 12November 30, 2024 4:56 PM

He was certainly raised with money and privilege - but the Vanderbilts were once the most wealthy family in the US. That insane amount of wealth was long gone by the time AC came along.

I hate these internet insults!!!

R13 - yes, the wealth had been dispersed, but they overplayed their 'we have no money anymore' hand. He's not just a Vanderbilt, he's a Morgan and a Whitney as well.

His whole life story is a lie. Wealthy people can do great things - but the connections and lack of money worries makes it 1000 times easier.

So he went to New Orleans during the hurricane aftermath - big deal. For wealthy people like that, it's an adventure - and one they can escape from very easily. It's the stuff of cocktail party conversations - oh you're SO BRAVE!

by Anonymousreply 15November 30, 2024 5:37 PM

What does Murjani have to say about this?

by Anonymousreply 16November 30, 2024 8:56 PM

[quote]He was on nyc news channel tv1 I believe before "the mole."

He was on Channel One news, which was a dumbed down news service provided to high schools that subscribed to it. It's experience, but I wouldn't call it an obvious stepping stone to a star position at CNN.

[quote]And The Mole was considered sophisticated reality tv you hateful cunt.

Oh, it was considered "sophisticated" reality tv, was it? Well, whatever you say.

by Anonymousreply 17November 30, 2024 10:24 PM

r13 Famous and well connected families have more access to wealth than rich people with no famous/well connected families. So even if Anderson didn't have a lot of money, he would always have access to certain loans, networking circles, etc.

by Anonymousreply 18December 1, 2024 3:18 AM

r17 Lisa Ling was also on it and has had a serious investigative journalist career.

by Anonymousreply 19December 1, 2024 3:35 AM

He is not a "Morgan" Morgan.

by Anonymousreply 20December 1, 2024 3:58 AM

r17 are you talking about New York One news? And you are mistaken, because I actually remembered him. I have always been enthralled by journalism and film. Anderson was on ABC reporting stuff before The Mole came out.

by Anonymousreply 21December 1, 2024 4:04 AM

And I stand but what I said. Before the Housewives, Mama June, Vanderbilts-- reality wasn't completely vapid. Survivor, The Mole, Amazing Race was considered intelligent reality tv.

by Anonymousreply 22December 1, 2024 4:06 AM

R22, but they’re rather valid too

by Anonymousreply 23December 1, 2024 4:09 AM

NYC One is not a high school subscription service. Did it start that way in the 70s or something lol. It always had more journalistic integrity than all the majors. That shit was a public channel with anyone with cable or antenna able to tune into. It's making me nostalgic for New York actually.

by Anonymousreply 24December 1, 2024 4:20 AM

I find him unwatchable on CNN.

by Anonymousreply 25December 1, 2024 6:27 AM

Anderson also paid his dues hosting the ABC overnight news for several years before getting his primetime show.

by Anonymousreply 26December 1, 2024 4:27 PM

No, Anderson Cooper was at Channel One and then moved to ABC, where he did a variety of things. I don't know what NYC One is but if he worked there it must be something at ABC. He also did the Mole as part of his duties at ABC.
