Camille Paglia: what is wrong with her?
She is infinitely better educated in a traditional sense than a prof of either literature or art history, since either would be hopeless in the other’s discipline. She does write wonderfully and it is always a pleasure and a revelation to read her talking about a text one is already aware of.
However, in video interviews, etc., she seems like a very serious manic bipolar person who is not on medication and may not even have been diagnosed.
Everyone says she is “nuts”, but what does that really mean?
I think that college of hers in Philadelphia has closed down recently.

No one cares about her. She was big 30 years ago.

What, precisely, does this mean, OP?

Yeah she was a flash in the pan who benefited enormously from being one of the few feminists in the 1980s/1990s who was queer (genuinely, not for show) and pro-porn.
Most of her ideas were always nuts and cobbled together in a rambling manic manner.

I liked she got into a fight via fax with another noted cunt, Julie Burchill, which ended when Burchill told Paglia to fuck off and called her a crazy old dyke.

Anything I've read by her has been littered with factual inaccuracies and there were probably more than I could spot.

At which point in the 80s and 90s was Paglia described as "queer", r6?

R9 I’m simply using the word as a descriptor? Would you prefer lesbian? My point was there were a lot of feminists in that wave who proclaimed queerness (of whatever variety) but invariably ended up with men whereas Paglia was actually a true blue dyke.

A former colleague went to high school with her in Syracuse and said she was just as annoying then.

I prefer her to that stuck-up Sontag

I like her. Did she go into hiding?

Her feud with Sontag was hilarious. Iconic pop culture stuff.
