Give thanks to Generation X

They remembered Reagan and gave us Trump

Of course, I am biased as we grew up in the 1980s listening to music from Journey, U2, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard and Van Halen; seeing movies such as “Star Wars,” “Back to the Future,” “The Breakfast Club” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”; and watching shows such as “Cheers,” “Growing Pains,” “Roseanne” and “Hill Street Blues.”

Most importantly, though, we grew up with Ronald Reagan as our president.

Ah, whatever.....conservative rag op-ed bullshit.

And yes, we GenXers do indeed remember Reagan and his conveniently failing memory during the Iran-Contra spectacle/debacle.

I love op eds like this, because it only confirms what a conman Ronald Reagan was.

“I hate America, Louis. I hate this country. Nothing but a bunch of big ideas and stories and people dying, and then people like you. The white cracker who wrote the National Anthem knew what he was doing. He set the word free to a note so high nobody could reach it. That was deliberate. Nothing on Earth sounds less like freedom to me. You come with me to Room 1013 over at the hospital and I'll show you America. Terminal, crazy, and mean.”

Who was in Room 1013? Trump’s mentor.

The U.S. is to the world as the South is to the rest of the U.S.

I am from the South. My life would have been infinitely easier if I had just knuckled under and gone with the program. It’s much less expensive. I’d have a big house and (old) friends and family all around. I’d have a big yard and lots of room for more pets.

But, that’s not the life I chose. I left as soon as I could.

Life is pretty easy in the US when compared with the rest of the world. Not the best quality, mind you. But easier.

Most of your entertainment was, of course, provided by baby boomers, OP.

by Anonymousreply 5November 30, 2024 1:35 PM

What generation doesn't know that the Washington Times isn't a real newspaper?

by Anonymousreply 6November 30, 2024 3:42 PM

No matter what you think of baby boomers, they never would've shot themselves in the foot like Gen X just did. They were all about protecting and growing their assets.

They never would've voted to cut their own Social Security and Medicare right before they get to collect what they've paid into for over 40 years.

by Anonymousreply 7December 3, 2024 5:21 AM

They're the ones who caused the 2008 housing crisis, taking out loans they couldn't repay.

by Anonymousreply 8December 3, 2024 5:48 AM

In the late 70s, out-sized capital was pushed everywhere - $6 million dollar man, Hart to Hart, Knight Rider, Silver Spoons - wealth brought opportunity and an advantage every time.

As soon as they begin parading the trophies, look for the land grab. The public gets screwed every fucking time. Your debt is not as deductible as an artificial instrument’s debt. Your healthcare is no better, but much more expensive than other countries. Your social security has not kept up with inflation - nor has the minimum wage that a human needs to survive.

Gen X thought they were the kings of irony and being cool but it turns out it was all just a lot of hairspray. And now they're bald.

by Anonymousreply 10December 3, 2024 6:05 AM

I've never seen so many young Gen Xers claiming Xennial status until now.

by Anonymousreply 11December 3, 2024 6:31 AM

Generation X also bore the brunt of school busing. Make of that what you will.

And greed is insatiable to those given the opportunity. X was in their premier wage-earning years when the Trump tax cuts hit in 2017. They have now had 7 years of untaxed wealth accumulation. They want MORE.

by Anonymousreply 12December 3, 2024 6:35 AM

Crime rates peaked with them in the early 90s. It must have been that lead.

by Anonymousreply 13December 3, 2024 6:38 AM

I've never seen Gen X be so quiet before.

They're usually so full of opinions and judgments!

by Anonymousreply 14December 6, 2024 3:18 PM

The Washington Times is owned by the Moonies, OP. It's a frigging cult. Whatever they publish is garbage, but I suspect you knew that already.

by Anonymousreply 15December 6, 2024 3:49 PM

I’m not reading any article that starts like that

by Anonymousreply 16December 6, 2024 3:55 PM

Gen X just did the biggest face plant this century. Nobody was even paying attention to them and they just completely supplanted the baby boomers as the most hated and evil generation.
