Love the slightly creepy looking Star Trek/Heaven’s Gate outfit.

Wait, this is not the famous Peggy from Cancer Treatment Centers of America, right? I miss that golfy dyke, I hope she's okay too.

My cousin has that kind of breast cancer. It metastasized to her spine. It also has a genetic component. Due to new innovations in cancer treatment, she takes pills every day that keep it from progressing. She's fine and looks healthy as a horse, and she's had it for two years. She WFH as a nurse for an insurance company in a very lucrative position. She told me that's one of the reasons she was able to find the best medical professionals to treat her cancer. She goes in every three months for a check-up, and not only has the cancer stopped spreading, it has even retreated somewhat.

She's one of the few members of my extended family I really like. It couldn't have happened to a nicer person.

Check her for an expiration date!

by Anonymousreply 9November 30, 2024 7:59 PM

The article is six years old. Is she still alive?

One of my friends has breast cancer too. She's only in her 30s but she caught it early, she's a nurse. However, she's still eating junk food like tarco bell and drinking booze...she had 2 surgeries to treat the cancer and has to go in every month for check ups

r10 I did a bit of Googling and couldn't find an obit, so I would assume so.

She's wearing a Star Fleet uniform.

Obviously she was cured in the future and came back.

by Anonymousreply 16December 1, 2024 1:25 AM

It’s her favorite foreign movie!

My mother had a 1st cousin that was a fairly long term surviver of breast cancer. She had a mastectomy and radiation initially then it came back in her bones. Never had any more radiation and never took chemo. The cancer was held at bay with tamoxifen (selective estrogen receptor modulator) for 10+ years with no progression. She ultimately died in a car accident.

Remember there used to an old wive's tale that cutting into cancer spreads it, so you shouldn't have any operations on it. I wonder if that has proven to be true. It sounds like R8's cousin didn't do anything too invasive.

by Anonymousreply 19December 1, 2024 5:50 AM

Why don’t you try that approach and get back to us, R19?

by Anonymousreply 20December 1, 2024 5:52 AM

I want to know if she's still alive

by Anonymousreply 21December 1, 2024 10:05 PM

An elderly woman down my block got breast cancer about 40 years ago. She initially had a lumpectomy. When it returned and spread she had double mastectomy and chemo. She was the same age as my mother, which would make her 99. She is still alive and I see her still running errands around the neighborhood, walking to get groceries, goes to the produce store and pharmacy. I have brief chats with her, and she is always talking about what meals she is cooking for that week, and he grandchildren and great grandchildren who visit her regularly.
