'Squid Game' season 2
Feels like I watched the first season a lifetime ago.
[quote]Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 gave up going to the States and comes back with a new resolution in his mind. Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 33 million dollars.
Out December 26th.

Squid Games is one of those series that is not watchable the 2nd time around. So much around the stunt if really dying. I hate Squid Games actually now.

** Minor Spoiler Alert ** This is the worst possible follow-up to Season 1 with the most disappointing and dumbfounding ending. The show dragged like molasses in Winter. I watched all 7 episodes hoping for some kind of satisfying, if not necessarily happy, conclusion. The ending felt like somebody suddenly turned off the power in the middle of an episode. What the fuck?

R7 I had the same reaction. The end of episode 7 was a non-ending and I was sure I was overlooking an episode 8.
Googling it, I found out this was intentional. The creators wrote seasons 2 and 3 in a single story arc and decided to end season 2 there, abruptly. Season 3 will begin (I assume) right where this left off. It will be released sometime in 2025.

I enjoyed this. I remember being really caught up in season 1, which was released in 2021.
It’s impossible for the second go-round to have the same impact the debut did.
This time things feel more contrived and there more of an emphasis on melodrama. But I still enjoyed watching it immensely.

Some sequences in Season 2 were extremely drawn out, more than necessary in my opinion, the voting segments for example. After the reading the article at R9, I bet they shot the whole story as a single season and then realized they had to split it, so they stretched S2 through editing to allow for 2 seasons out of 1.

The first episode of season 2 was well done and I thought very engaging. Some great scenes. The second episode I thought really dragged. The most intense game scene was the six-legs one. I loved how everyone was cheering each other on even though people were getting shot all round them… by that time we knew a lot of the characters well… very intense! The merry go round one was equally great for similar reasons.

I think Kang Ha-neul (as Dae-ho) is really hot. I didn’t notice him initially when he first showed up, I think in episode 3. But he slowly grew on me!

It’s called going back and watching season one, R18. I mean what the fuck, it’s Netflix. This ain’t broadcast TV in the 90s. It’s sitting right there. I went on a Squid Games binge the week before the new season came out to get me ready for it.
If there’s a long break between seasons, then you should always do a rewatch. At the very least, you rewatch the last season finale.

I watched it and thought it was quite a bit better than I was expecting, based on its generally negative reviews. I already knew they'd have to do it much differently given how completely novel the first season was in every way, and putting Gi-hun back in the game obviously meant he'd see any of the games from the first season coming. That btw is one of countless plot holes in the sequel. He makes a name for himself as the supposed winner of an earlier game, but stupidly "predicts" the games will be identical, as if he's someone STILL oblivious that the game is entirely about control OF the players, not BY the players.
I also knew going in that it ended on a cliffhanger and, like a number of other recent series, opted to shoot a single "jumbo-sized season" and then announce after the fact that the third season's already in the can. (They did that a few months ago with "The Diplomat," which also ended up a huge cliffhanger.) And I knew it had two fewer episodes, which seems to be a "thing" at present. See, also, "House of the Dragon," though that one was cut short because of the writers' strike; "Squid Game" was wholly produced in South Korean and exempt.
I know suspension of disbelief is necessary on a show like this one, but considering *I* figured out "Captain Park" was a mole by his second scene, I thought it was absurd that Jun-ho – an actual police detective FFS! – didn't have the slightest clue. Also, why the AF have they spent literal years driving a boat (!) around Korea's 3,300 islands (!!) trying to find the one where the games where held? Gi-hun is extremely rich! Why didn't he at least rent a helicopter or prop plane for the search? (Rhetorical question: I know the answer is "plot contrivance to explain his lack of progress.") I'm glad they brought Jun-ho back, because he's hot AF (albeit no Slap Daddy), but his oh-so-convenient "amnesia" seems stolen from an American soap opera.
R27, do you seriously never watch anything that's "depressing"? Does that mean you've never seen anything made in South Korea? (Its two most famous exports, "Parasite" and "Snowpiercer," are just as extreme, and the latter includes an absurdist perpetual motion bullet train circling a post-apocalyptic Earth.) The first season was extraordinarily cruel & cynical, but that's also why it was such a blockbuster: they took a concept not that dissimilar from "Saw" but adapted it to incorporate children's games. It's still mass murder (over 450 people gunned down), but hey, at least it's more fun!

Season 2 was really good and better than I expected. I didn’t really love the direction it took in the last episode because it reminded me of Westworld and how crappy the series got when they stopped playing the game.

Tell that to R25.
The people who just dived into season 2 without rewatching season 1 really did themselves a disservice. I forgot so much about season 1 that I would’ve been lost. Many pivotal moments, like the big reveal of Frontman being the new Number 1, wouldn’t have hit me since I didn’t remember what he looked like without his mask.

R35 Exactly!!!!! I am rewatching S2 now and it's 99999% better after refreshing S1.

I don’t think he does, R36. No way he would’ve done what he did knowing this guy could shoot him in the back at any moment.

Jesus, season 1 was literally some of the most exciting television ever created. That’s why the show took the world by storm. It’s not like you gotta wade through some overly long, boring series like that Kevin Costner “American Horizon” bullshit. Squid Games goes down quick and easy like a prostitute.

I went into Season 2 with trepidation after seeing some reviews but ended up loving it. I liked the new cast and new twists. Some great looking guys like Gong-Yoo (the recruiter), Kang Ha-Neul, and T.O.P., who is ridiculously charismatic. I haven’t enjoyed a bad guy so much since JR Ewing.
I think they’re being disingenuous saying there is a Season Three. It’s pretty clear that this is all one season that Netflix told them to break in two. That would explain why the first two episodes took so much time setting up the story.
