Have you bought furniture online?
I need a living room chair, a swivel one would be nice. I’ve looked at the standard Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, Arhaus, etc, but their shipping costs add almost a third to the price of the chair.
Im so over paying so much for furniture. Should I just buy something from Amazon or Wayfair and call it a day? Are they okay enough in quality? Are returns easy if I don’t love it?

Why don't you support your local small business ? There must be a family owned furniture store in your area. Why not give them your money ? Too many people think on-line is the only option for everything today.

Are there even family owned furniture store any more?

Don’t look at it as paying for delivery OP - see it as a guarantee that the chair you end up with is actually comfortable and you will enjoy sitting in. Buying case goods sight unseen is fine but I’d never buy a couch or chair I hadn’t tested out in person first.

Did you try Lay Z Boy? (la-z-boy.com)
They have non-recliner furniture, if that is what you want.
And they do have actual stores and there is a "store locator" function on their website.
Black Friday sale on now.

I sell furniture & it BAFFLES me when people get so turned off with the delivery fees. Do you have a truck, no, do you like to move furniture up 2 flights of stairs, no. Then, if you want this sofa, you need to pay to have it put in your place!!! Also, Wayfair is crap- all of it. Buy a quality piece from a known manufacturer & stop whining....... And NO we will not take away your old furniture...... Unbelievable!!!

Please, Please, Please - before buying furniture, measure your heel to your back kneee - you will so much happier if these agree.
Please please Pleae - before buying furniture, measure the height of your furniture - if you are shorter or taller, it will effect what you buy.
Also, be realistic in fabric choices. If you have temperamental cat or dogs you do not buy boucle furniture. You also don’t buy antique art deco area rugs - ancient pee excites current residents every time.

I researched the hell out of the sofa I bought from Article.com. It is miserable to sit in. I'll never again buy something I can't sit in first. I'm thinking a Stressless sofa may be my next sofa. Will have to go to my local Back Store to check it.

It really is all about planning where you’d like to be. The piece might not be right for the current environment, but someday it will marry with the rest of your shit. In order for that to happen, it pays to buy used quality or over-priced studio products.
There is no crime in paying the fair price for good stuff. You don’t have to get “such a deal” on every fucking purchase. I’d like you to consider paying a reasonably fair price that respects all parties.
You’ll always have an interesting room - not the one on Instagram or Youtube. You’re gay; you have a richer environment that requires history and physical experience of sight, touch, sound, and soul.

I purchased an IMG rocker/recliner at a local upscale furniture store about 14 years ago. They only had one model on display but I was able to determine the style/options I wanted based on the one in the store. The chair is of Swedish design and it took about 3 months from ordering to receipt. The chair is super comfortable with adjustable headrest (height/tilt) and the seat cushion is quite long providing great support for my long legs. I believe I paid about $1,300.00 or so then. The chair has held up well and the leather has developed a great patina over the time I've had the chair which resides in my bedroom for relaxing or watching TV before retiring.
I've provided a link to one that is similar in style to what I have although the cushion pattern is a bit different. The newer ones offer power reclining/massage which weren't available when I obtained mine.
Happy hunting.

One of the casualties of the Bed Bug Panic of 2007 is that re-upholsterers were put out of business.
You should be able to examine the form of whatever you purchase knowing you can have it re-upholstered to fit any environment. Instead, we have fearful beige purchasers who enjoy pier mirrors.

I've bought wooden patio furniture and a banker's chair for my office online from Amazon and been happy with my purchases, but never anything upholstered that would see as much use as a living room chair. I'd want to try options out for comfort and general inspection of quality in the store before buying.

An alternative way of thinking is that Amazon sells versions of chairs that other retailers sell but at 1/3rd the price. Quality isn’t as good but shipping is free.
You can buy that same chair 3 times for Amazon before you reach the price the retailer sells it for

I bought a large free-standing pantry with glass front cabinets from Wayfair. I measured the site carefully and also paid a little extra for assembly. People who have come to my house and have seen it are very impressed. It is perfect for my needs and fits perfectly into the space I had designated for it. My house has very little storage and no space adjacent to the kitchen for a built in pantry.
However, a few years ago I bought a large wicker outdoor furniture storage bin from Amazon and never could assemble it properly - so there it sits - in 8 large pieces and tons of useless hardware.

OP I bought both a sofa and a recliner from Amazon.
Each for under $150.
I'm happy with both.
The only thing is that you have to assemble it yourself, but assembly is very easy.
And the best part is that both were delivered right to my door.
I didn't have to carry or load anything!
I'm telling you, Amazon is the way to go.
Just search through the furniture section and find something you like.

Different but similar. Bought microwave oven on Amazon-third party but felt ‘’safe’’ it’s Amazon. Text notification said ‘’1 microwave oven delivered- item placed in customers mailbox’’ In my mailbox was an envelope from that third party and in the envelope was a brand new black paper COVID mask-that’s it. Called Amazon and they are perplexed but they ultimately sent a very similar oven a few days later. I love the oven AND the woman at Amazon was very very pleasant.

I once bought a bureau from Wayfair. It was actually fine quality but it wouldn't fit in the space. I wanted to return it, but Wayfair put up a bunch of barriers. It wanted a valid reason why I would return it--"It wouldn't fit" wasn't good enough.
I had to send them a photo with a tape measure showing that the bureau wasn't as tall as it claimed to be on the website. (Actually, it was the correct height but I adjusted the tape measure to show it wasn't). Only then would they allow a return.
Don't know if their rules have changes, particularly with competition from Amazon, but I won't buy from anywhere that doesn't have easy returns.

What about used / vintage stuff from Facebook Marketplace or even Craigslist? Some of it is probably better-quality than new. Also, the price is probably better / negotiable and you can look / feel before you buy.
If used upholstered stuff skeeves you out, then just stick with wooden / metal stuff.

Very few people sell good vintage on FB marketplace where I live. It's all West Elm, IKEA, Wayfair crap. You have to go to estate sales for anything vintage.

I still buy furniture in charity shops and broccantes. Wood furniture. Not upholstered furniture. If you want new upholstered chairs, buy famous models from famous brands. If you can't afford the price and shipping of a chair from Knoll or a reproduction classic french chair, then face reality, drive to Ikea and live within your budget. I find day beds to be a problem solver. All new. new frame new mattress.
An oak bankers chair or library chair is very comfortable, in my opinion. if its properly proportioned it's feels better than the cheap fabric and cushions of todays budget easy chairs, which are such crap. Caned Thonet chairs are fine and comfortable for a normal sized person for a little visit. Or at the breakfast table.
I just redid a TV room with two day beds and all the rest of the furniture in vintage wood.
I had a collection of heavy brass lustres and appliques and was nervous to ask the electrician to hang them, thinking he would judge them unsafe but he was delighted that someone bothered to like old 20th century fixtures and said almost all modestly priced lighting today is crap, too.
