Currently reading the Dietrich biography by Maria Riva
Thanks to recommendations on DL I bought a cheap used copy and I’m about a third of the way through. I’m loving it and I’ve never been a Dietrich fan.
Dietrich’s daughter is a terrific writer, but seriously, could she have remembered SO much detail from such a young age? She had to have embellished quite a bit.
Thoughts?

It's the best celebrity bio I've ever read.

It is a great read. And a memoir, not an autobiography. Some lapses of memories can be expected or explained .

Maria is still alive! And she was already ancient when the book came out 30 years ago!
And don’t get me started on Christina Crawford. When HER book came out Grease was in it’s initial theatrical release.

Here is an interview with Maria from around the time that book came out.

I remember the interview and recall Maria's intensity of expression disturbed me. But I read her book many times with interest. It's a great achievement. Memory is not 100 reliable, but Maria's recollection reads truthful. She had a lot of anger for her mother and father but respected both for their talent.
