People who are obsessed with celebrities may be less intelligent, study suggests

Stealth MAGA thread. Fuck off. I am highly intelligent but I just love all things Hollywood.

I would love for a study like this to be done on people who are obsessed with sports and know every stat.

yes, the dumb cunts!
totally agree. only a fucking dumb cunt would give a shit c'mon, it's not like they are expert in anything...some of them can barely act or sing. At least for a sports figure, they excel at a sport or gifted physically and you follow them for exercise tips.

On a personal note, the time I was most obsessed with celebrity gossip coincided with one of the lowest points in my life. I had very little going on, so I used Reddit and Twitter as an escape. As I started improving, I found myself caring less and less about celebrities, kind of like those stories where someone stops running a fan account after getting on the right medication. It was a wake up call.
The problem with “stanning” any celebrity is how easily it erodes critical thinking. Fans stop processing facts rationally and take every attack or allegation against their favorite as a personal offense. Instead of treating these grown millionaire adults like humans, they infantilize them, rushing to “protect” their honor. Fighting with strangers online to defend someone who doesn’t even know you exist? Sad.
I wouldn’t be shocked if corporations actively amplify this behavior for profit. Fans are guilted into buying every product, streaming nonstop, or otherwise “proving” their devotion. I even saw a fan apologizing for not streaming all day because they had a major exam the next day. This kind of extreme investment - sacrificing personal goals, time, and money for a celebrity - is irrational and downright harmful.

“obsessed”

Joke’s on you. I already know I’m a dumb bitch.

Liberals and highly intelligent people don't make Marvel movies and garbage music billions upon billions of dollars. I live in So Cal and can tell you quite confidently that the toothless rubes still visit and flood Hollywood Blvd which anyone that lives here avoids like the plague. Liberals don't keep those Star Tours in business. They talk a big game about California but those idiots still flock here and buy the crap. It's been my experience when you put ANY celebrity in front of any of these hicks they absolutely lose their shit and start asking for autographs or selfies.

I'm a moron.

For the first time ever, the study correlates 100% with my lifetime anecdotal knowledge of people.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 27, 2024 9:49 PM |
So I'm assuming that includes the 80 million idiots who voted for Trump, the guy who has spent the last 45 years of his life and millions and millions of dollars ensuring he was, is and always will be a celebrity and the first celebrity "president?"

R7 Exactly. 👏

Is this about the men of the DL obsessed with someone named Timmy or their non stop interest in Taylor and the Tight End?
Strange obsessed childlike OK but stupid? Seems a little harsh but maybe they tested.

I can finally blame my poor arithmetic skills on Barbra.

I hope they do the Meghan Markle lover and hater loons next.

I think lower cognitive abilities leads to a worse life, which leads to looking to other people’s lives with more cognitive success to be entranced by. Cognitive abilities come from lots of external factors as well though. But ultimately I think some of us on the DL would benefit from giving ourselves the same amount of care that we waste on these fantasy people.

The study measured obsession based on participants’ responses to statements like, “If I were lucky enough to meet my favorite celebrity, and he/she asked me to do something illegal as a favor I would probably do it.” There’s a wide gulf between interest in celebrity gossip and freely admitting you’d do crimes at La LuPone’s command.

R16, let’s be honest. 90% of DL would probably fail this test so hard they’d end up labeled functionally retarded.

That's a pretty funny question, r16. I don't think I'd smuggle heroin in my rectum just because Weird Al asked me to but who knows what I'd do in the moment.
I'd like to interview the people who said "yes" and find out the celebrity and what hypothetical crime they're thinking of when they answer

I would commit treason, sedition and insurrection for my favorite President!

I would commit treason, sedition and insurrection for my favorite person! Sheena Easton.

R16, I'm imagining Patti Lupone as a crime boss enlisting her fans to break the law on her behalf, and now I want to see that as a streaming show.
I don't care if it's a comedy, a drama, or a documentary.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 27, 2024 11:02 PM |
I picture Lupone as someone who commits extreme acts of violence in front of other people and then expects them to keep quiet, not someone who asks others to do stuff.
