I've heard Bill Clinton has done that for years. The past few weeks when I wake up I have some brief lower back pain. It's gone as I move around in the morning. I'm wondering if I should start using a pillow under my back.
Do any of you sleep with a pillow under your back?

I sleep on my side with a pillow under my head, one against my back & one against my chest.

No, but I do sleep on my back with a pillow under my legs, which helps my lower back.

I sleep on my side with a stiff pillow behind my back. I can roll back against it a bit to relieve shoulder pressure. The feeling of support is nice. I also occasionally sleep with one between my knees of one is acting up..

Side sleepers may be fending off Alzheimers (I think that was a theme of a recent thread here). Side sleeping is much better for people in general - helps avoid snoring and a host of physical problems. But people have to side-sleep correctly to get full benefits. Knees need to be slightly bent, not straight. There should be a pillow between the knees. That keeps the hips in line with the legs. The pillows supporting the head need to be relatively flat and piled high enough so that the head is on a level with the neck, not dangling down. In that way, the shoulders have room to be aligned from where they contact the mattress all the way up the sheets and covers, without creating odd angles and pinching the joints. I'm surprised that people don't discover this on their own through trial and error.

Ha! I've started doing the same! I'm a side-sleeper & my massage therapist keeps scolding me about the impact it has on my shoulders, but I just wake up that way. So I've started using pillows against my back & chest as a kind of support to take the weight off my shoulders. It seems to be working

I bought one of those boyfriend pillows, you know, for the lonely. Soon I needed another for between my legs, you know, like they manufacture for the pregnant. So, yeah, the top of my bed is a tangle of comfort pillows.
