Colorado "restaurant" sells packaged ramen for sit-down meals
Starting at $6 and up, for an "affordable dining out, restaurant experience."
Just add hot water and let sit for 3 minutes.
Now I've fucking seen everything.
Even worse, there are people willing to pay for this crap.
There truly is a sucker born every minute.

I can see maybe doing it for the add-ins that you can see in the refrigerators.

Why the fuck would I want to leave the comfort of my home for this? The whole point of going out is having good food and not having to cook. If I'm doing Ramen, I'm staying home and eating this crap in bed with the tv on.

I think that’s the whole point — eating out. This is for someone who enjoys the experience but doesn’t need expensive high quality food to do it.
They may also do a great job “gussying up” the ramen. If you read through r/ramen, half the posts are by people starting with instant and adding lots of great stuff.

R2 is absolutely correct.
Just read the comments section. They are RIPPING this place apart.
Not only can you get the same food for $1 at home, but it's also more convenient and comfortable.
And please don't call this place a restaurant.

Yeah I've never wanted to go out just to go out. If I go out, it's to get food. I didn't suffer at all during lockdown because I never go out to eat anyhow. I think it's a pain in the ass, and I wouldn't do it just to get ramen. Though I have gone for takeout of the restaurant ramen, it was okay.

So it looks like in the fridge, they have boiled and raw eggs, corn, fishcake, dumplings, bean sprouts, kimchi, pickled radish and multiple types of fresh onions.
I don't know - I'd have to try it.
One of the things about getting Ramen at a ramen restaurant is the rich broth, the flavored meat and other items. Granted, this is half the price - but the packet flavoring just doesn't create the rich broth.

These are popular in Korea. They even have ones with no employees at all. You could never do that here. Someone would destroy everything in hours.

This reminds me of the cold cereal restaurants that were all the rage 10-15 years ago. Hipsters will think this is cute until the next goofy thing rolls around.

R11 - I hate YouTube videos like that - they focus on the sounds of each item so much. A big thing 10 years ago - now it just is hacky and annoying.

It looks like there's no servers. So you overpay for a packet of $0.50 Ramen and you prepare it yourself. Sounds like a great dining experience!!!

I think the video at R11 is an ASMR video.

Or maybe it is cute and you don’t need to be a hipster to think so.
The way some of you exhausting queens are replying, it’s like an instant ramen restaurant poked you in the eye as a child.

OR R16, it sounds like an incredibly stupid idea and a huge ripoff.
Especially in the United States.
It might work in the orient, but not here.
Packaged ramen isn't exactly a luxury item here, and certainly not worth $6, when everyone knows you can get it for $1 at the grocery store.

Or you could do it at home, for less money.
How hard is it to chop up some green onions, boil an egg, scoop some corn out of a can, take out a slice of nori (seaweed) from the package, buy a jar of kimchi from the grocery store, or cut up some imitation fish cake?
Yeah, not hard at all.

The $1 Maruchan, Top Ramen etc., aren't the same thing as the higher quality ramens like Nongshim or Samyang, etc.

This would be interesting if this could work in low traffic areas that are next to interstates. Imagine a cool self serve restaurant in rural Iowa right off the exit. Think like an automat but with a mix of comfort food and casual bar type dishes. They even have those self serve beer tap machines now. All I have are ideas, unfortunately.

There’s a VERY popular restaurant I. My town’s (not New York) Little Italy. Prop on e rave about the food. I finally went with sone friends a while back, and yest, realky good. We were there late, last seating. We pretty much closed the place up. As we passed through to the front of the restaurant, I. Ducked into the kitchen;. No one there, but I did see a lot of empty cartons from Italian good ended from Gordons

If there is a clean bathroom and I can sit there for an hour and have a conversation, then it’s a thumbs up from me. $6 is a bargain for that and it comes with free noodles. Unfortunately, there will not be one with a clean bathroom in NYC.

Azn restaurants are famous for no bathroom use and no loitering policies.
It's always "Hurry up and eat, so we can get the next customer in!"
So you're shit out of luck, on both counts.

People go to Jimmy John's which is all shit you can make at home, but people are too fucking lazy to do so.
So no surprise there were cereal restaurants, or that people would pay for ramen they could make at home.

Sandwich shops are a different story, R37.
You're being disingenuous.
Sandwich shops come with an assortment of deli meats, tuna salad, and specialty sandwiches, along with a wide variety of sauces, condiments, and chopped vegetables of every sort.
To do that at home is very time consuming, which is why it's faster and easier to "grab and go" from a sandwich shop. Especially on the run.
And sandwich shops aren't advertising themselves as a sit-down restaurant. Everyone knows it's fast food.
This ramen place is claiming to be a "restaurant," when really it's a serve yourself cafeteria where you have to prepare your own food by adding boiling water from a tap.
THAT, you could easily do at home for cheaper.

I think it’s a good idea because some people still want to be near other humans! Not everyone has friends! Sometimes you want to sit and just exist and eat some ramen and look at people. It’s cheaper than a restaurant that cooks for you. Picking out the add ins and zapping the food gives anxious people something to do while they acclimate to the setting. It looks friendly but not too friendly. I haven’t been in one but I will be this summer. Japanese places can be fun and mellow. Better than a Starbucks.

I buy Neoguri mild seafood ramyeon and add green onions, avocado and seaweed flakes. They come with a little packet of dried kombu and the noodles are udon type, thick and chewier than standard ramen. I would eat them in a cheap restaurant setting, I love them.
