Kim Cattrall
The television role which made her famous is the epitome of female emancipation. As the PR mogul Samantha Jones in the American series Sex and the City, she's romped her way to celebrity status through her character's immense appetite for sex and liberal attitude towards it.
The actress herself originally turned down the part, but six series and two movies later, she is now at the very top of her profession. She played her first film role for Otto Preminger when she was 17, had starring roles in the comedy films Porky's, Police Academy, and Mannequin, and among many serious stage roles played opposite Ian McKellen in the Broadway production of Chekov's Wild Honey.
Of the part that has made her famous, she says, "I don't think there has ever been a woman on television who has expressed so much sexual joy without being punished."
Let's discuss DL fav Kim Cattrall

"The television role which made her famous is the epitome of female emancipation."
Such utter and complete bullshit. She's a slave to dick. She wants it and needs it and craves it like a junkie needs smack.
She's the exact opposite of "female emancipation."

Samantha was actually the kindest character on the show. She had more heart than those other 3 bitches put together.

Who said it wasn't, R3? Besides, the topic at hand is the alleged female liberation of the characters in SATC, not the sexual proclivities of the denizens of DL.
Besides, I always maintained Samantha was simply female embodiment the series gay male creator, Darren Star and head writer, Michael Patrick King, another gay male.
With the possible exception of Miranda, the other three characters sole purpose in life is to bag a man. They all consider themselves failures if they don't have a man in their lives.
Any woman who reads "Bride" magazine is not liberated in any way, shape or form.

R8 I agree, kind of.
Samantha just likes sex, but she doesn't live for a man the way Carrie or Charlotte do.

She was the most interesting character by far. She wasn't just about the sex, you could see she'd overcome a tough childhood, she was self-made and didn't take crap.
Underneath that we did get beautifully played moments of vulnerability, self-doubt, regret, hurt and confusion. Kim was great at making a caricature more human.
Kim was also beautiful and got hotter as the show went on.

Her character was such a caricature - which I guess many shows have.
But I remember Christina Aguilera imitating Samantha on SNL - and it really drew out how insane her speaking voice and mannerisms were on that show.
I get it - you had the prude and there needed a counter-balance to that. She actually did 90% of the sex in SATC.
But it felt so forced and fake. It was entertaining but over the top and ridiculous at a certain point.

In many ways Samantha Jones is the finish line that Marlo Thomas started: the single woman - with her own career and aspirations- owning her space and being an equal to men, if not better. Imagine if Marlo, or Mary or Rhoda or Tina could have been that free and in control. Deep down in their hearts that what Harriet Nelson, Donna Reed, and Barbara wanted. So I think Kim Cattrall spoke a powerful voice for women to be themselves. But what these young women who love her don't get is that to be Samantha you have to work hard, have your own money and space, and feel equal. You aren't using sex to catch a man but to pleasure yourself.
My sister thinks she is just a gay man character written in a woman's body. I am gay and even I couldn't be that sexually free.

There's a fabulous episode (Hot Child in the City) where Samantha handles PR for some spoiled little sluts Bat Mitzvah and she overhears a bunch of girls talking about giving bj's at 13. Sam is shocked, concerned and grateful she had a real childhood and it all registers beautifully on Kim's face. She gave Samantha much more depth than what was in the script.

r42 Given the cost of weddings, I don't see the problem in having that magazine to plan. Are you serious?? As far as groom magazine--- men generally don't plan their weddings--- outside of gay men.

R54 - what's worth the investment - a wedding, a car, a college education or a bride magazine?
What's so unique about weddings that hasn't been written about a million times over online? It's a fucking party - get a venue, invite some people, buy some clothes, decide on food, flowers, and a band. Boom - done!
Overthinking it and focusing on the small details that no one fucking cares about is what drives people crazy and the bills up.

r55 The cost of a bride magazine pales in comparison to the actual cost of the wedding. There are now online forums to help people plan. But before then bride magazines helped. Even if you have a micro wedding, the magazine is a minor cost or investment.

SATC jumped the shark when Big chased after Carrie after marrying Natasha. HBO has been airing a lot of their old series lately and they showed the entire SATC series a few weeks ago. Seasons one and two were great. After that, it was all about the clothes and Carrie being a cunt. The Aiden episodes are painful to watch because she treated him like garbage and he took it. Then he came back for more. Also, the writing was just plain sloppy.

She was a great comedienne. One of her best episodes is My Motherboard, Myself, a great episode for all of the characters and probably peak SATC.
It’s the episode where she tries “to find” her orgasm. It’s a hilarious episode for SJP as well, and Nixon of course excels as we learn that Miranda’s mother has died. Charlotte swings into action and is hilariously sent up as well.
Cattrall’s Samantha was that rare character who was sexually active and driven by not only without being punished for it but also by being funny with it, while being in on the joke.

Kim was the best actress on the show but Michael Patrick King had no vision for the character and that got worse and worse over time. Samantha was unrecognizable by the second movie. She was supposed to be a sophisticated cosmopolitan woman and they had her acting like she never heard of conservative Islamic mores & rubbing yams on her hoo-ha

Again in the minority here but there is no one more fake than Kim Katrall. As mentioned, she started her career in a Preminger movie, so she knew Isabelle Hupert from back then. Please listen to the podcast they made a couple years ago where Kim’s narcissism becomes clear (it is supposed to be a mutual interview but Hupert barely speaks).
Katrall is at her most passive agressive self: she tells, in a mealy mouthed voide, how she was exploited in the series as a bomb sex personna that had nothing to do with her , and in the next sentence flounces her books of sex after a certain age. Also, her supposedly reluctant cameos in And Just Like That evidences her thirst.
Having said all this she is decidedly a fine actress and also not as crazy as SJP, who is a millionaire who fits shoes tp flag her brand.

In the battle between Kim and SJP I don't think there's a winner. Kim lost credibility when she made the second movie. Did she not read the script? Did she take the money and not care how they turned Samantha into a dirty joke? SJP came from nothing and supported her entire family on her Annie paycheck. She turned Carrie Bradshaw into an empire and you gotta admire her for that. She would have had a nice career without SATC but she wouldn't have the wealth.
