Are medicine marijuana products snake oil?
I've only smoked marijuana a couple times in my 20s. Didn't like the way it made me feel (super paranoid.) I'm in my mid-50s now.
I suffer from anxiety and insomnia. A friend suggested I try some "sleep drops" from our local cannabis dispensary (I'm in NY), that he takes and sleeps like a baby now. They're microdoses of THC, CBD and CBN.
They did nothing for me. NOTHING. So I go back to the dispensary and ask what they'd suggest would be stronger but not enough to cause me paranoia. He recommended a tincture with 4:1:1 THC:CBN:CBD. He said I should fall asleep within minutes. Excited, I went to bed early to test it out. NOTHING.
Over the next several nights I tried increasing the dosage, and still no improvement on my sleep. I go back to dispensary, explain the problem, and that I'd like to try a gummy, not to help me sleep but to relax me and calm my anxiety (i normally take klonopin when I'm having an anxiety attack but only as needed). He gave me something that was 1:1 THC:CBD. Took half a dose and nothing; the next day took a full dose and -- you guessed it -- NOTHING!
Anyone here have any positive experiences with these things? Am I doing something wrong? Do some people just not have a reaction to them?

If you’re thin edibles and tinctures can be less potent in their effects.

These gummies work really well for me.
I’ve tried other brands, but Wyld works the best for me.

It doesn’t work the same way for everyone. Weed makes most people sleepy, but it keeps me awake at night.

The times I've tried gummies for sleep the effects were either nothing or gave me intense heart palipitations that freaked me out so much I couldn't sleep.

The CBD gummies that you can buy on-line are wildly different in their effects and I think it's the unregulated amount of CBD in each batch.
I've had some that did near to nothing and some that wrecked me for two days.
Nothing I've ever taken -CBD or cannabis - has ever helped with either sleep or pain, despite the claims. I think it's much more dependent on the particular person than they say.

I’ve smoked joints and have eaten gummies from dispensaries that have worked marvelously for sleep.
Like almost any drug out there, both eventually stopped working for me. But while these two things worked? They worked very well.

Some people don't get any benefits from ingesting THC, it's something to do with the enzymes in their stomach. My partner feels nothing from gummies, I thought he was full of shit till a budtender explained it to me.

Are you off tv and the Internet at least 2 hours before you take those gummies?
They work best if not taken on a full stomach. And they can take 45-60 mins plus to kick in. And if your self Dx is accurate in your OP you have more problems than a simple gummy will take care of by themselves.

There are two strains Sativa and Indica. Indica produces a more sleepy effect, Sativa can energize you. Make sure if you are trying to sleep you get Indica. I use 5 mg and it works for me. Helps to calm the random thoughts that keep me up at night. I find if I start a narrative of a fantasy in my head I dose off and dream well, rather than popping form thought to thought like I usually do.

I’m slim and I sleep well on a 1:1 THC/CBD tincture (about 1mg/1mg per drop), about 4-5 drops. Only on nights when I seem to need it.
I’ll feel a bit stoned and underproductive the next morning though, so it’s a no if I’ll need to actually show up for work (i.e. lead a Zoom meeting)

The best way I have found to wake up not feeling different, not feeling stoned, is to keep my volcano on throughout the day and make sure it gets used properly and often

I take 2 over-the-counter gummies and then a small puff of Indica (vape). That does the trick for me.
The gummies aren't CBD - they are melatonin, L-Theanine and botanicals (Chamomille, Passion Flower and Lemon Balm).
Indica can put me straight out - BUT not a huge hit.

Smoking the hemp cigs got rid of muscle pain from moving for me, OP.
I couldn’t believe it, but I was desperate, and the Tylenol/hot shower/muscle rub wasn’t cutting it. So the next day, before bed, I desperately smoked one of the hemp cigs I had.
It worked like a miracle! The pain abated enough for me to sleep, then the next day, I felt fine. No pain at all.

In a word, studies show they help some people, make sure it's not something from Florida from a beach front store fake crap, I hope they never go recreational here, then the watered down and fake products will appear. Go to a reliable dispensary.

They have broken the cannabis products into its parts. One can buy the part that works for you to get the effect you desire. You need to discover the part and the dose that works for you

It depends on the brand. I recommend WYLD, Camino, Lost Farms Resin gummies, Ogeez RSO gummies.

The ratio of CBD:THC is not as important as the total milligrams of THC in the dose. If the dose you’re using isn’t working, try a higher dose. As someone else said, it can take an hour - sometimes even longer - to feel the effects, so plan accordingly.
Works for me.

Try a different dispensary. There are also carbonated drinks with like 3.5 mgs TCH and 10 mgs CBD that give me a more pleasant buzz than gummies. Doesn't necessarily help me sleep but mellows me out while unwinding before bed.

It sounds to me that your real problem is your anxiety. You take all these Cannabis things but you're probably hyper alert waiting to see if they kick in or not, and because of this you can't fall asleep. If you've been taking Klonopin to deal with your anxiety, your body is used to a very powerful and habit forming drug, and none of the cannabis products will come close to that. My suggestion from similar personal experience is for you to see a good psychiatrist that can help you end your Klonopin dependency and put you on a combination of different drugs (such as Mirtazepine + Trazodone, etc.) that can take the anxiety away so you can then use Cannabis to better effect. Cannabis is never going to work like Klonopin or Xanax but it will help you stay asleep.

Enough with the Klonopin and marijuana. You're just mixing drugs and trying to find a magic bullet.
I would see a therapist for the anxiety and insomnia.

Trazodone is probably a good idea for you as mentioned.
If that doesn’t work then ask your doctor for Imovane / Rhovane. That shit will knock you out in 10 minutes. Make sure you are within reach of a bed or couch after taking it.

Nothing but pure vapor and the mj goes so much farther.
On sale about $350 and they last forever

If you are getting gummies, be sure to ask if it is pure THC. Some makers of cheap gummies are putting in shitty canniboids and then Delta 8 or Delta 9 (synthetic pot).
