Favourite movie performances by cis actors as trans characters

As our celebration of Transgender Remembrance enters its sunset phase let's discuss our favourite movie performances by cis actors as trans people.

Who made you laugh? Who made you cry? Who made you adjust your underwear because you were feeling a bit uncomfortable?

Michael Jeter in "the fisher king" but I'm not sure he counts in the "cis" category.

by Anonymousreply 14November 21, 2024 11:30 PM

R11 he was extraordinary in that role—fairly bold for 70s TV.

Hannibal Lector says at one that that Buffalo Bill is a crazy person who thinks he's trans. Not really trans, OP.

Pamela Springsteen in Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers and Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland

Michael Dorsey as Dorothy Michaels as Emily Kimberley

[quote]Hannibal Lector says at one that that Buffalo Bill is a crazy person who thinks he's trans. Not really trans, OP.

Buffalo Bill was partly based on Ed Gein, the cross-dressing serial killer who also inspired the character of Norman Bates. Like Gein, both characters are not trans, but identify and live as men, while their cross-dressing is private and ritualistic.

Jame Gumb self identified as trans. That's the rules.

by Anonymousreply 23November 22, 2024 8:11 AM

Phillip Seymour Hoffmann in Flawless

I think he was a drag queen and not a trans anything.

by Anonymousreply 24November 22, 2024 8:14 AM

Vanessa Redgrave in Second Serve.

Starts off as a man then becomes a woman. Funnily enough Vanessa looks odd as a woman after she transitions.

Chris Morley as Sally Armitage on GENERAL HOSPITAL (1980)

Another vote for Flicka “Ruh Roh” Huffman

La Redmayne in The Danish Girl. He showed real hog before the character chopped it off.

by Anonymousreply 27November 22, 2024 8:59 AM

Jame Gumb was completely insane so identifying as trans carried the same weight as identifying as Napoleon, r23

In that universe, Hannibal Lector is a genius psychiatrist who is never wrong. If he said Jame Gumb isn't trans then that's that.

by Anonymousreply 28November 22, 2024 11:10 AM

Jame Gumb meets the modern day criteria of being trans. He literally tucks FFS!

Hunter Schafer could play him in a remake.

by Anonymousreply 29November 22, 2024 11:28 AM

Lecter!

Antonia San Juan in Almodóvar's All About My Mother

by Anonymousreply 31November 22, 2024 12:12 PM

Steven Mackintosh in Different for Girls

by Anonymousreply 32November 22, 2024 12:15 PM

He doesn't meet the modern day criteria of being trans, r29. Anyone who wears a human skin suit is fucking nuts and loses the right to identify as anything. He was also rejected from a bunch of trans medical programs because the doctors knew he was crazy. It's in the book, movie or both.

by Anonymousreply 33November 22, 2024 1:28 PM

Trans people can be serial killers!

by Anonymousreply 34November 22, 2024 1:38 PM

Maura Pfefferman ("Moppa") in Transparent. But I mainly like it because it's the best contemporary Jewish-American TV series I've ever seen.

by Anonymousreply 35November 22, 2024 2:31 PM

^ R35 Jeffrey Tambor as Maura Pfefferman

Linda Hunt as Billy Kwan.

38 responses in and no mention of Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis in "Some Like it Hot"?

by Anonymousreply 39November 22, 2024 8:29 PM

Hilary Swank in everything.

by Anonymousreply 40November 22, 2024 8:33 PM

R39 They disguised themselves as women to hide from the mafia, so it’s not a trans film; it’s a movie about how far men will go out of desperation. The humor is in how uncomfortable they are cross-dressing, not that they are into it. “Tootsie” and “Mrs. Doubtfire” are in the same vein.

Ving Rhames wasn’t trans in Holiday Heart. He was just a drag queen.
