Oh God she’s going to win the Oscar isn’t she
It’s a weak year with the frontrunner as of now being little-known Mikey Madison in little seen Anora
God knows the Hollywood liberals would love to give it black woman after what happened to Kamala
Erivo would be only the second Black actress to win the Best Actress Oscar, and the first Black-Black actress to do so.

Depending on how much money it makes it could potentially win Best Picture too
The front runners are Anora and The Brutalist and existentially threatened Hollywood would love to give it to a movie people have seen

I hated the stage version, no, I mean HATED it! I'm not gonna try to sit through the film version.
The first act is over an hour and a half long, and is very boring. I don't know how those tweens could sit through it! The music sucks and the characters get on your nerves. For the life of me, I'll never understand how such a self-indulgent crap-fest can be so popular. Ok, on second thought, maybe I can...

Moore’s nomination is her win. She will be nominated over Nicole Kidman who everyone has had enough of.
Assuming the movie does well - it’s tracking for a 150 opening - it would be extremely hard to make an argument against Erivo. Hollywood. She would have to irritate everyone in Hollywood to death.

Netflix has Emilia Perez and is pushing trans actress Karla Sofia Garçon for best actress and Zoe Saldana as best supporting actress despite the fact that Saldana has more screen time than gascon.
I think Demi Moore will get in, the movie is universally praised. If Ervio’s reviews continue to be positive she’s in. Madison’s performance is universally praised though I think the nomination is the reward. Ariana Grande like Saldana will be category frauded into supporting actress despite being a co lead.

The Exorcist was nominated. The awards queens are pushing the tranny for best actress and her costar zoe Saldana for supporting. Emilia Perez has mixed reviews and Saldana has more screen time than Karla Sofia gascon the trans actress. I can’t see AMPAS nominating 2 actresses from different musicals in one category.
It would be a fun season if Pamela Anderson, Demi Moore, and June Squibb made it in.

R,46, that was 51 (!) years ago. I think aside from Misery and The Shape of Water (which was pushed as a dark fantasy), no other actressesses have been nominated. Actor for Get Out, but the Academy loves Daniel K.

The quality of performances or even the films means nothing currently.
The Academy has wholly tasked itself with box checking each category to have deserving non-whites to be able to point at. Each year some must be winners, or the whole thing has failed. No wonder nobody watches the lousy show anymore. I'm surprised members even watch the films at all. Maybe they don't, yet the know who DESERVES to win!
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 21, 2024 4:17 PM

R48 Stop your handwringing and lying. Most of the winners are still white. I’m so sick of the lies. A minority winning doesn’t mean it wasn’t the best performance. First of all, there is no pinnacle or “best of” in art because it is all subjective. Except Queen Bey, obviously she is the greatest thing ever. But back to the Oscars, the winners are usually among top 2 performances as deemed by critics, and the other awards shows throughout the season. Whichever one of those 2 put on the best campaign usually wins. If minorities use their ethnicity as part of the narrative, then so be it. Whites benefit from the legacy of institutional racism so that completely flips it on its head in a brilliant way.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 21, 2024 4:32 PM

And nobody watches the Oscars anymore because there are 1000 fucking tv options and we see celebrities 24/7. Many people do not even have cable anymore, and certainly not antennas to just put on regular tv. It was easier to flip on ABC during those times, than it is to find what streaming platform is hosting it. You are an idiot and don’t know shit about changing tv viewership habits.
