Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) plans to introduce a resolution Monday that would bar transgender women from using the women’s bathroom in the Capitol, according to her office. The move comes ahead of Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D-Delaware) being sworn in as the first transgender lawmaker in the United States on Jan. 3. The resolution is not under privilege, meaning the House does not have to immediately vote on it. Even if the resolution were to be adopted this year, it would have to be reintroduced and passed in 2025 to be in effect for the 119th Congress.

If only all the other transwomen could be as dignified, r31, and agree to keep out of women's bathrooms, the world would indeed be a much better place. Mcbride is basically accepting that transwomen aren't actually women, which is progress.
Although, I suspect Mcbride found he had very little support from his fellow Democrats in Congress and that's the main reason why he didn't fight this. A sign that the Democrats are finally getting the message?

Meanwhile, the middle class is about to get bent over.

oh please, of course she has support from them. Sarah McBride is showing incredible class and dignity.
In general I'm uncomfortable with public women's restrooms being open to transwomen myself, but the idea that a duly elected member of Congress is going to start assaulting people in restrooms is ludicrous and stupid and people like Nancy Mace are beneath contempt.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 21, 2024 4:36 PM |
Did he have enough support from the Democrats to fight the ban on men in women's restrooms, r35? He's going to annoy the more loony trans activists by backing down so easily. In any case, it's not about him, it's about the principle of all men who claim to be women and using that to demand access to women's space.
"In general I'm uncomfortable with public women's restrooms being open to transwomen myself" - But you think it's "ludicrous and stupid" for women to state that we're uncomfortable and you describe women trying to prevent something you yourself don't support as "beneath contempt".
As I said above, hopefully all transwomen will show the same dignity, as you put it, as McBride, and keep out of women's restrooms and other spaces.
I do feel sorry for McBride in a way because he's so obviously a man who just didn't fit into stereotypes of how men should be, but instead of just accepting that he's not "manly" he decided that must mean he's a woman. He gives me a gay vibe, although he was married to a woman who passed away. Whatever, he's obviously uncomfortable in his masculinity and so did all these stupid things to his body. Behind the permagrin, I sense a deep sadness in his eyes.

[quote] In general I'm uncomfortable with public women's restrooms being open to transwomen myself,
Out of interest R35, why? I can’t understand why a women’s bathroom (all stalls) is any different to trans women and cis women sharing for instance, a reading room in a library, or a waiting room in a train station, or any other sort of space where you are spending time with people you don’t really know that well. I can see the rationale behind people finding the sharing of a locker room to be different from most spaces, but in a women’s bathroom it’s private stalls. It doesn’t make any sense to me.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 22, 2024 11:28 PM |
Because r10 that’s not the agenda. MTF insist to the point of collapse that they are women, similarly FTM insist the same. To use a gender neutral bathroom, which would be a compromise is not on their agenda. Others must accept their subjective beliefs as fact which is clearly nonsense though in some countries legislation has been put in place to compel acceptance.
It’s the unacceptable face of the trans agenda which they and their allies play down preferring to plead can we not all get along and be reasonable.
No one’s subjective beliefs should ever be treated as fact.

If you don't believe there's any safety issue with having females (women) and males (transwomen) use the same bathrooms then why not just just get rid of separate male and female bathrooms altogether. Might as well get rid of other single-sex spaces too, such as changing rooms, student rooms, hospital wards and prisons, because there's no difference between biological women and biological men, right?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 23, 2024 12:28 PM |
This is such a bullshit debate. It basically casts all women in the role of delicate flowers, with men as predatory monsters. Everyone knows the least likely person to rape a woman is a transwoman, but some prefer to whip up scary fantasies. The more likely bathroom violence would come from a transwoman in a men’s bathroom.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 23, 2024 12:40 PM |
This new trans rep deserves the human right of going to a bathroom. If the GOP is going to cruel and forbid her from the women’s bathroom, they have to create a bathroom for her.
This is EXACTLY like the separate facilities for Black/White people.

by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 23, 2024 1:02 PM |
R45 - there are also single sex bathrooms all over Europe because men and women prefer them.
So a few questions
1. Do women have a right to single sex facilities?
2. Do women have a right to be offended when males use them?
3. Is there a certain criteria trans women should meet before using female toilets, e.g. attempting to pass as female?

R45, actually there aren't single-sex public toilets (the word used throughout Europe for toilets - we're not going to have a bath in them) all over Europe. A lot of Europe also hasn't been infected by this mania for allowing men into women's toilets.
You're undermining the trans argument, though. Transwomen want to use specifically women's toilets because that means everyone accepts them as women. They don't want unisex toilets for everyone.
But, it's an interesting point. If it's perfectly safe for biological men who identify as women to use women's toilets, then why not get rid of "gendered" toilets altogether, and have one set of toilets for use by everyone? No ladies and gents, just loos for all.

I am 100% against what Mace is proposing (I can't believe it's even being considered and discussed), but remember one thing: It was things such as this that made MAGA win and Dems lose.
As we all know now from the feedback we got from voters the past few weeks, families weren't sitting at the kitchen table discussing 'the price of eggs and a loaf of bread' before casting their vote. They were at the table discussing 'boys taking a piss in the girls' bathrooms at school' and 'guys playing on the girls' soccer teams'. The horrors! Sadly, that's what mattered most - and Mace is taking advantage of this.
As a side note, I have a very strong feeling that Macy is eyeballing a run for the GOP Presidency in 2028, and she has decided to hit the ground running - starting with this.

Families were discussing the price of eggs and a loaf of bread and the trans - they are a package. What voters perceived was that the Democrats did not give a shit about rising prices because their only concern was allowing men into women's bathrooms, mutilating children and men in women's sports. In other words, the classic "the elites don't care about us average folk, all they care about are imposing their extremist middle-class luxury, cultural positions on us". Rising prices while the Democrats demand that boys play in girls' sports are two sides of the same coin.

[quote]In Europe there are unisex bathrooms all over the place.
[quote]No there are not.
Regardless of how many gender-neutral bathrooms there are in Europe, there’s never been a full-scale effort to criminalize or enforce that only one biological sex uses the women’s rooms, because it’s known that a bathroom law would not keep predators out — because predators are lawbreakers by nature. As for non-predatory trans women, I sure that even with a law they’d take their chances using the ladies’ facilities to avoid being harassed in the men’s rooms, but few would be prosecuted because trans people are a rare occurrence to begin with, and only a fraction of them would be caught in the act.
I think the bathroom laws in the U.S. are meant to be a way to intimidate trans people and discourage them from cross-dressing in public, producing a chilling effect on them, rather than protecting women, because if politicians really wanted to protect women, they would take sexual assault victims more seriously, make sure rape kits are prioritized (instead of gathering dust in an evidence locker), and not force rape victims to give birth to their rapist’s babies.

As often happens in these sorts of threads there are a number of posters (or possibly just one, posting multiple times), informing us all about the objectives of transwomen, as though they are all alike and have gotten together to make sure that their wants and desires are identical. Transpeople are looking for a safe space to pee. Going into a men's bathroom wearing a dress and a bra is an invitation for physical assault. Going into a women's room is safer for them. Some women feel uncomfortable that there might be a penis somewhere in the room with them. However, as mentioned above, most facilities for women are made up of individual stalls with locking doors. Until there is a some sort of poll saying otherwise, I'm going on the assumption that trans people would far prefer a single stall bathroom with a lockable door (which is something many people would prefer if given the option
PS Multiple user restrooms are generally unlocked. At any time, a man, DRESSED AS A MAN, can walk right in to a women's restroom. There is nothing preventing him. While in there, he could conceivably rape a woman. I'm quite certain that has happened many many times over the past century. I'm sure that has happened many many times over the past century or so, ever since single sex bathrooms became a thing. However, there are strong societal taboos that go some distance towards discouraging most men from treating women's rooms as their personal play spaces. It's that taboo that enables women to feel more comfortable in using a public restroom. But it by no means guarantees absolute safety. That is an illusion.

r69. There is nothing whatsoever to prevent men from using women's rooms. Back in the late 70s, I and some friends missed our last train out of Grand Central in NY and had to spend the night on chairs in the lobby of a midtown hotel. There were no men's rooms available on that floor of the hotel, and when we had to use the bathroom, we stood guard for one another and used the women's room. It was surreal. No long rows of urinals with two or three stalls, Instead, an outer lounge, full of chairs and mirrors, and a separate room with a huge number of stalls.

Straight liberals STILL fail to see that trans people and issues will remain a major interest to voters and losing issue for Democrats. Devotion to the Gender Identity Movement convinces them of the left's total lack of authenticity. We all see the truth. Why pretend? Men are not women, period. People can live how they wish, but that's never the point. People see and know the truth, regardless of my fellow lefties' demands to pretend otherwise. There's the lesson. Learn it.

Most Americans are against youth gender transition and allowing trans girls/women to compete in sports with biological girls/women. The needle isn’t going to move on those issues.
I think most people thought in 2015 that trans women had fully transitioned (hormones, surgery) and those were the ones using the ladies room. A decade of social media showing autogynophiles jerking off in the bathroom and Jessica Yaniv types shifted the support.

In my map of the world, we wouldn’t reward and coddle fragility. White women love to see themselves as the object of lust. They are not. Just fucking get over yourselves.

[quote]Most Americans are against youth gender transition and allowing trans girls/women to compete in sports with biological girls/women. The needle isn’t going to move on those issues.
Fortunately, Sarah McBride is an adult and not competing in sports. She's made it clear she's there to do her job and not proselytize about trans issues. She's also said she wasn't planning to use the women's restrooms on Capitol Hill. So what's the issue that you think vast numbers of Americans will be upset about?

Sarah McBride is a moderate Democrat. She will likely ended up being more useful that some of the progressive twats like AOC, Rashida Slob, and Ilhan Omar.
Haley "Creepy Dollface" Stevens is a moderate Dem who probably end up becoming Sarah's Capitol Hill bestie.

r31 I am going straight. To. Hell. As soon as I read her line, “I’m not here to fight about bathrooms.” My brain immediately went to the "I'M NOT HERE TO TALK ABOUT MY TRANSITION" line from this South Park episode:

Sarah McBride is a good addition to Congress. She should be more visible on TV, etc.

I guess you've never noticed that rest rooms usually have either "MEN" or "WOMEN" on the door.
It's been that way for some time now.

Try to think like an actual voter, even a very nice, fair-minded one-
"Well, where IS she going to go to the bathroom?"
And there you have it.

Trans women are men.

R52 is against this shit. They are surprised it’s even being discussed. But then they add that it is issues exactly like this that caused the Dems to lose.
Then despite being shocked it’s being discussed they go ahead and discuss it.
This is an example of Dems gearing up for a comeback

R89 hardly straight guys shower all the time with other men and boys when younger.
The argument back then was that gay men would be looking at their straight male coworkers as sex objects. That they would be checking out the dicks and asses and then going to DL to talk about all the great dicks and asses their military mates have.
Before I discovered the DL I thought that argument was total and complete bullshit.

R64, in the vast majority of Europe women's toilets are solely for women. Men are not accepted in them. Stop lying to give the false impression that the trans lunacy that has taken root in the US has any parallels at all in Europe.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | November 24, 2024 4:17 PM |
Exactly, r103. I wonder how many of those arguing here that transwomen, aka men, should be allowed to use women's facilities are women. About 0, I'd guess, 2% max.

Don’t be electing South Carolina politicians for national roles. That certainly includes Mace, McMaster, Scott, and Miss Graham. Haley can be included.
Corruption abounds in SC. They are paving the whole damn state and destroying every forest and wetlands they can. Land developers control the politicians, state and county. $$$$$

r89, It's strange to me that the democrats have never been the least bit opposed to the crazy trans demands the way they were so opposed to things like gay marriage and gays in military. As long as the trans shit has been on their radar, they've been hysterical about supporting it.

Yes - I remember that, but forgot it was her. Oh my! She’s a nutty attention-seeker with a martyr complex. It’s no wonder she’s blowing up X with her rants.

The funny thing about the sidewalk episode is that she didn't attempt to disguise her handwriting so people were able to tell immediately.

R106 Read my post again — I never stated that I know the number of unisex bathrooms Europe (although I saw one portrayed in a German comedy film about the tech industry, which surprised me! It had ceiling-to-floor stalls, though.) I’m contrasting the sanity of Europe against the lunacy in the U.S. All these countries have trans people, but the trans hysteria is mostly in the U.S.

I have polled women friends of mine, and none that I have asked are bothered by a trans person dressed as a woman and not looking like a man (full beard and hairy legs) using a women's room. As they all say, "we're all in separate locked stalls".......

I posted this on the "AOC dropping tea" thread. Makes sense here, too.
[QUOTE]Nothing would even happen to a regular woman, beyond a few stares wondering "what are you doing here?"
[QUOTE]Irecall a concert where the women’s line was so long, some went to the men’s room.
I'm female and used the men's room at Wrigley Field. A lot of older stadiums have fewer women's restrooms. The line was massive. It's not that I was dying to go, but I'm too impatient so I scooted into the men's room (which had no line at all) and straight into a stall. I wasn't fearful at all except for maybe embarrassment. My plan for a confrontation was "sorry, I really had to go," run and disappear into the crowd.
Nobidy said anything to me and I didn't overhear anything. While I washed my hands I looked a little in the mirror for reactions, but didn't notice any. Then I scooted right out. A couple of guys had a surprised look as tge were walking in, but nothing hostile. They'd probably brought a wfe or SO to a game and knew the bathroom situation.
This was '99 or so.

As a coach I have spent time in college dorms during summer camps with all the other male and females coaches and we all used the same good size rest and shower room. It was such a non big deal. Not even worth commenting on at the time.
People who spend time in a public space like that looking to see asses, dicks, or tits, are the ones who need their own loo away from others..
Acting like an adult a mentally healthy adult not be that hard.
