Am I just unlucky, or are online retailers overpromising on delivery dates?
I order a lot of stuff online -- mostly from Amazon, Walmart, Target, Kohl's and a few others. Amazon is usually pretty good about delivering things when promised (or sooner, in some cases.) I think this is because -- at least in my area -- they primarily use their own delivery service for most purchases.
Walmart and Target however .... I guess because of the heated competition with Amazon and each other they are really pushing "same-day" or "next-day" delivery -- but in my experience lately, they fall short much of the time. And a lot of it is because they rely on other delivery companies -- the good ones like UPS and FedEx-- but unfortunately also some third-rate no-name local companies.
Frankly, I don't care if things arrive quickly most of the time--but I don't like to be fed misinformation about delivery dates and times. I had a Walmart order last week that was supposed to be delivered on Saturday. By Wednesday, they still hadn't updated their website to indicate where it was or when it might arrive--it just said "delayed." I finally called them and they said it was probably lost or damaged. Whatever--just update your damn website!
Target was supposed to deliver something yesterday via FedEx. Never showed up. Then they said it would arrive today. Now, after 7PM, it still says "arriving today" but FedEx hasn't even received the item yet.
You'd think with all the technology available they could do a better job with this.

FedEx is awful. The worst. I don't blame the retailers. I think it's the delivery services that overpromise the retailers. I will tell you this. When you buy something, go with standard shipping. Because you will usually be frustrated and disappointed if you pay extra for expedited and they don't fulfill their promise.

I always get free shipping with everything from Amazon, Walmart, and Target, so it's standard shipping--but usually you get faster service anyway.

In the last few months Amazon has become totally unreliable. I order something with same-day delivery, and it takes four days! "Guaranteed" overnight delivery is often two or three days...

Guys? This is going to get worse and worse because Dump won. His shenanigans are going to completely fuck up supply chains. Shop smarter, not harder.

Because I'm old, rich, and bored.

Just finished chatting (online) with Target about another missed delivery. Website still shows "arriving Sunday, 11/17."
Their solution to everything (Walmart does this too) is "it must be lost. We'll replace it or give you a refund. And if it shows up, keep it or donate it."
Maybe I should keep hoping they mess up. Could work in my favor. I'm expecting a TV set from Target on Wednesday. What are the odds I'll end up with two?

Maybe I should invest in a storage locker and start hoarding stuff to sell on the black market when the shit hits the fan.....
