I thought Vivek wanted to completely dismantle and abolish the FBI. I’m confused.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 1, 2024 12:42 AM |
Isn't that how you do it, R6? From the inside?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 1, 2024 12:44 AM |
Omg, he's gonna make a mess worse than I thought. Jesus Christ. They want to dismantle the FBI? Just how will they do that?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 1, 2024 12:45 AM |
Usually an appointee’s ethnicity is stated on the lead paragraph, but I’m not seeing it in this case. I assume he would be the first Indian-American FBI chief.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 1, 2024 12:47 AM |
R8 What I’ve read is that they plan to reassign essential duties to other agencies and abolish the duplicative ones.
I have mixed feelings about the FBI. They do some extremely important work but they also have a history of corruption, such as targeting certain people and groups like MLK. Although Trump just hates them because they investigated his criminality.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 1, 2024 12:50 AM |
Susan Collins is concerned, but he told us he'll do a good job.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 1, 2024 12:50 AM |

[quote]They want to dismantle the FBI? Just how will they do that?
They launch phony and fraudulent investigations against their political enemies, other government officials and the media...all the while protecting Trump, his cronies and policies.
This is what the uneducated, bigoted and vendetta-seeking voted for. This is quite serious especially for someone like Kash Patel who has no experience to lead anything particularly the FBI.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 1, 2024 12:52 AM |
R12, I looked on DL and saw this. I thought it was first. But this was a guess, I guess, from about 2 weeks ago.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 1, 2024 12:52 AM |
I demand a recount! Seriously, I think Musk fixed the election.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 1, 2024 12:55 AM |
Trump is now completing an authoritarian government with Patel at FBI and Pam Bondi as Attorney General, whose plans--"fraudulently investigate your enemies"--are the same as Patel's.
This is MAGA undermining our democracy out in the open with Trump going free.
Yes, I know...it's the price of eggs.

Here’s Trump’s pick for FBI director showing how terrible he’s going to be “I’d shut down the FBI Hoover building on day 1 and reopen it the next day as a museum of the deep state.” He’s a conspiratorial lunatic.

Has Efrem Zimbalist, Jr., commented?

by Anonymous | reply 20 | December 1, 2024 1:10 AM |
R16 I find it hard to understand that our government does not have the safeguards in place to have kept him from running the second time, let alone the first.
We talk about background checks to own a gun. Many jobs require background checks, as does law enforcement. There should be a background check required for presidential candidates with clear criteria to eliminate people with conflict of interests, or trying to overthrow an election like trump. It's sickening to watch this happen with everyone at the top levels of security and law enforcement hand-cuffed by inadequate laws.
I think trump is one of the most cruel and evil humans in history. As bad as Hitler, Putin, Stalin, Mussolini, etc. He's weakening what defenses we have left. It's outrageous he was elected twice. All the evil in plain sight and people refused to look.
I find it ironic that middle-to-low income people claim they voted for him because of the economy. A six-time bankrupt grifting felon who doesn't pay taxes and stiffs contractors and others. Biden has been excellent for our economy, doing an outstanding job in many areas, and with Harris there was no fear of fascism. But no, let's vote for the felon. They like racism, misogyny, and cruelty I guess. There is no hate like Christian love.
Democrats will once again have to clean up after a Republicans once that shit stain leaves if we make it that far. It's disheartening how many fools are willing to jump on that clown car. I am ashamed to be an American.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 1, 2024 1:12 AM |
This is why you don't ever empower the dumbass wing of Americans who voted for a deranged lunatic, surrounds himself with deranged lunatics, and nominates deranged lunatics for governmental positions they are the least bit qualified for. These clowns in Trump's circus are going to fuck up royally and we won't have to wait too long for it to happen.
The pollsters would never ask it, but I wish they would ask people, "Based on Donald Trump's announced nominees so far, how likely would you be to support a one-time (good ol' fashion, banana republic style) military coup in the United States if the President-elect loses his mind once in office and no one will hold him accountable as chaos ensues?"
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 1, 2024 1:26 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 1, 2024 1:28 AM |
Wray did his job so of course he's out now.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 1, 2024 1:30 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 1, 2024 2:06 AM |
I'm still hoping we'll have confirmation hearings. Call your Republican Senators and demand them. I have two Democratic Senators but I'm calling them anyway. Recess appointments cannot be allowed to happen.

[quote]I find it hard to understand that our government does not have the safeguards in place to have kept him from running the second time, let alone the first.
R21. That's one of the flaws in our constitution. The founding fathers and every Congress since did not think to add to the constitution that convicted felons and adjudicated rapists are disqualified from running for president such as Trump. Not even after Nixon. Congress thought impeachment was enough. But it's not when you have the likes of Mitch McConnell (who could have sunk Trump after the second impeachment and insurrection) the vast majority of other Repigs and the current Supreme Court. Add that to an uneducated and disregarding public, conspiracy theorists and aides and a cabinet full of felons--and you get Trump. It's disgusting.
Many "guardrails" depend on people having honor and doing the right thing. Trump and the Repigs (both Congress and the public) have smashed that theory. The corruption in the next four years will be staggering and overwhelming.

It's still unbelievable how so many folks fucked America over by giving these bastards power. You have to have a damn screw loose if you ever thought this man and his asslickers would do anything positive for the general public. We're not getting a real government. by Anonymous | reply 95 | December 3, 2024 12:08 PM |
Agree with you r94. He’s on the Trump/Patel hit list for sure. Imagine having the last name Biden in a prison staffed with MAGA guards. I knew that the second coming of Trump is going to be horrific, but his ghoulish cabinet picks tell me it’s going to be worse than I’ve anticipated, like his first go round. I hope I’m being overly dramatic, but I’m pretty sure 2025 is going to be the worst year this country has experienced since the civil war. And it will be followed by incrementally worse years for the foreseeable future.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | December 3, 2024 12:15 PM |
Worse years than the Great Depression, W.W.2, civil unrest in the 1960s? Plus Biden left the economy in pretty decent shape. The news will be bad and there has to be strong pushback from Congress but horrific? Ridiculous.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | December 3, 2024 1:59 PM |
I'll give you the Great Depression, maybe, but we would soon have stable leadership under FDR. The difference is we didn't have a self-proclaimed dictator, surrounded by sycophants and lunatics (many of whom are religious fanatics), a domestic terrorist organization called the Heritage Foundation with a plan to unwind the progress of the 20th century, inept cabinet picks and others put at the head of departments and agencies with the stated goal of destroying them from the inside and weaponizing the Justice system with powers to go after citizens at the whim of the president. The desire to silence voices critical of the administration. Mass deportation of immigrants and tariffs that will make inflation skyrocket while firing 10s of thousands of government employees, and warnings from an unhinged oligarch that we'll all face "temporary" economic hardship. A Supreme Court of radical right wingers with no allegiance to established law. And many, many other things. We haven't been here before, so who knows how successful they'll be in playing this out. That's the best we can hope for. These people have been working towards this destruction for 50 years and now is their chance.

by Anonymous | reply 103 | December 4, 2024 12:42 AM |
The Heritage Foundation are extreme conservatives not terrorists. You don’t seem to remember what real terrorists are.. think WTC and suicide bombers. The Supreme Court is also conservative but they do have an allegiance to the law. Mass deportation is not as easy as it sounds as even migrants have rights. The last thing Trump wants is more inflation so the tariffs may not be as widespread as he says. Firing federal workers is also difficult as they are well protected. In the Senate, 4 Republican Senators can stop every Trump appointment. And the House Republicans have a majority of 1 currently.
Let’s wait and see before we declare the sky is falling.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | December 4, 2024 1:31 AM |
R104 You are living in a delusional state of mind. First off, the current SCOTUS has no allegiance to the law whatsoever anymore. They are corrupt and have been waiting to gain a super majority 6-3 to not only undo all the progress that has been done in the US over the last 60 years; Right to Vote, Civil Rights Act, Roe v. Wade, giving president complete immunity, etc.; there is nothing to hold them in check going forward. Mass deportation will happen even if it will be difficult, and expensive and cause potential constitutional crisis. .The same with firing career federal workers and replacing them with Trump ringers. And if you believe there are 4 Republican Senators who at this point will be willing to stick their neck out to stop a Trump appointment, I have a bridge for sale in Brooklyn, real cheap.
The sky has already fallen, and it will only become horrifically apparent by the end of January 2025.

CNN — Kash Patel, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to run the FBI, was recently informed by the bureau that he had been targeted as part of an Iranian hack, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN.

Of course not, those idiots never think these things through. They probably don't even know the scope of the FBI's work. If they succeed, America will become a hellhole of criminals run amok. There will be no justice for anyone, just a field day for criminals. My hope is that because they are idiots they will fail.

He's got crazy eyes. Plus he's a batshit crazy QAnon conspiracy theorist and anti-vaxxer. Amongst other things - he actively recruits new members for QAnon.

A QAnon cokehead running the FBI...what could possibly go wrong?

Patel threatens a critic of his appointment with legal action. That certainly bodes well for how he'd manage the FBI.

When are we going to decide enough is enough? One week of general strikes effectively shutting down transportation would bring this Y'all Queda bullshit down on its knees. Look at South Korea. We have way more power than we realize..but, Americans sure hate to be inconvenienced.

WHAT A PUSSY.
That wheedling legal letter at r133. What a wimp, crybaby. I hope she goes back on MSNBC and says as much. If you can't stand the heat Wimpyboy, get the hell out of the kitchen.
He has no place in government. Good on the recipient for standing her ground, and her right to free speech. At the rate he's going he's going to need a billion dollars to fund all of his legal challenges.

The two most wonderful words: Discovery Process. Shit, getting Ka$h Patel on the record about any fucking thing, and subject to perjury charges, would be a feat in itself. He lies as much as Trump, and in the same way doesn't even know what lying is. The whole concept is a mystery to him.

Actually they're not. The GOP is so desperate for minorities that they rise very quickly in the GOP. If you're Black, Asian, Latino, East Indian--you will be given a prominent role quickly to give the GOP a diverse face

^ This is true (It's funny that Republicans shriek about DEI because they love their tokens)

An incident (or ten) in Patel's past is the same as what happened to Danesh Souza - some White person(s) called him the N-word and the brown-skinned snowball lost his mind.

He sure has the white trashy backwoods first name so he fits right in with the magats
