Denzel Washington reveals his gay kiss was cut from Gladiator.

[quote]“I actually kissed a man in the film but they took it out, they cut it, I think they got chicken,” Washington then revealed. “I kissed a guy full on the lips and I guess they weren’t ready for that yet.

Nice to see how Denzel was happy to do that now, earlier in his career he wouldn't have done that. And fuck the studio for being afraid of including it

People grow and change every day; we only hope more people grow to be less intolerant than the opposite.

by Anonymousreply 1November 14, 2024 12:21 AM

Sounds pretty hot. Denzel can still get it, even at his age. My guess is his thinking on gay men has advanced, and he’s going to be retiring soon, so I’m sure he has zero fucks left to give.

by Anonymousreply 2November 14, 2024 12:21 AM

Google AI said this about Denzel and his previous advice about kissing other guys onscreen:

[quote] Denzel Washington advised Will Smith not to kiss another man on-screen because it could hurt his career. Smith later said he regretted not going through with the kiss, calling it "very immature on my part".

[quote] The incident occurred in 1993 when Smith was a freshman actor playing a gay hustler in his first movie role, Six Degrees of Separation. Smith refused to kiss his co-star, Anthony Michael Hall, on camera. To get around this, the filmmakers used a camera trick to only show the backs of the actors' heads.

by Anonymousreply 3November 14, 2024 12:23 AM

Denzel still looking g👀d!

by Anonymousreply 4November 14, 2024 12:28 AM

Look at Denzel looking like a black leather disco daddy.

by Anonymousreply 5November 14, 2024 12:34 AM

They probably thought that with Pedro Pascal and Paul Mescal, the film was gay enough.

by Anonymousreply 6November 14, 2024 12:40 AM

[quote] Denzel Washington advised Will Smith not to kiss another man on-screen

The kiss was full on. Our lips did not have Six Degrees of Separation.

by Anonymousreply 7November 14, 2024 12:43 AM

I don’t get why people get upset about straight men not wanting to kiss on the mouth of same sex actors. It’s a preference. We don’t fuck on screen or give blowjobs. Why does that offend people.

by Anonymousreply 8November 14, 2024 12:53 AM

They are actors r8. Kissing people is a normal part of the job of an actor whether you are attracted to your costar or even like them. Why do people get upset that firefighters refuse to put out fires?!

by Anonymousreply 9November 14, 2024 1:00 AM

R9 ridiculous analogy.

by Anonymousreply 10November 14, 2024 1:02 AM

Denzel looks so good in this film . Best I have ever seen him

by Anonymousreply 11November 14, 2024 1:07 AM

So edgy! Is your on-screen kiss partner posting on the internet that he kissed a black man?

by Anonymousreply 12November 14, 2024 1:15 AM

So brave of him.

by Anonymousreply 13November 14, 2024 1:23 AM

[quote] I don’t get why people get upset about straight men not wanting to kiss on the mouth of same sex actors. It’s a preference. We don’t fuck on screen or give blowjobs. Why does that offend people.

R8, kissing someone on thge screen isn't sex--blowjobs and fucking on the screen are. Talk about a ridiculous analogy.

by Anonymousreply 14November 14, 2024 1:28 AM

I suspect we will be seeing less man on man depictions in mainstream movies now that Dump is king

by Anonymousreply 15November 14, 2024 1:30 AM

Denzel looks like Luenell.

by Anonymousreply 16November 14, 2024 1:31 AM

Who did he kiss? Pedro?

by Anonymousreply 17November 14, 2024 1:31 AM

R16 😂 Don’t do that.

by Anonymousreply 18November 14, 2024 1:32 AM

What about boob sucking on film? Is that sex? It always takes me out of the story because I wonder if the actors are uncomfortable

by Anonymousreply 19November 14, 2024 1:38 AM

So, AlienonMars is Teacake, right?

by Anonymousreply 20November 14, 2024 2:40 AM

An act like that is different r19. Not every actor would be okay with it, it would be worked out with them and their management. And there would be an intimacy coordinator to plan out the scene and make sure it goes smoothly.

But kissing? Whether they are working on stage, TV or film every working actor will kiss many, many people over the course of their career. Its a normal day at the office.

by Anonymousreply 21November 14, 2024 2:41 AM

R20. Of course. Insanity doesn’t just disappear.

He has two or three new aliases he’s using at the same time.

Mentally ill, obsessed and tragic.

by Anonymousreply 22November 14, 2024 2:45 AM

Iz beez a blatino alien, mafuckers!!! 🌯 👽

Git awayz from meez youz beotches!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 23November 14, 2024 2:48 AM

^ Teacake's Ebonics impersonation at least makes sense most of the time.

Your mocking could be improved by dropping the addition of random Z sounds.

by Anonymousreply 24November 14, 2024 3:04 AM

R22 No I’m not. Story lying on me. Stop being obsessed. Keep making me the talk of DL, damn idiot. A real person would ignore.

by Anonymousreply 25November 14, 2024 3:10 AM

what? he's the biggest homophobic holy rolling asshole in Hollywood.....according to my spies......

by Anonymousreply 26November 16, 2024 2:35 AM

The gray hair suits him. He should keep it gray off-screen. Silver fox.

by Anonymousreply 27November 16, 2024 3:32 AM

R27, I agree.

Denzel is aging well

by Anonymousreply 28November 16, 2024 10:08 PM

Glad he ate her too

by Anonymousreply 29November 16, 2024 10:10 PM

Meh. I doubt we missed anything. Usually when straight men kiss each other on screen it just involves a lot of lip smashing.

by Anonymousreply 30November 16, 2024 10:16 PM

What guy did he kiss?

by Anonymousreply 31November 16, 2024 11:09 PM

Denzel circa Training Day would have had me on my knees every single night.

by Anonymousreply 32November 16, 2024 11:14 PM

Macrinus, who Denzel plays, was not black African.

by Anonymousreply 33November 16, 2024 11:19 PM

Were you expecting historical accuracy in a Gladiator movie?

by Anonymousreply 34November 16, 2024 11:25 PM

R34 Exactly, because those motherufckers certainly weren’t Irish either. The logic is so stupid. Brown skin Ethiopians are likely more genetically close to those people than say Irish or British people.

by Anonymousreply 35November 16, 2024 11:26 PM

Macrinus was Berber, from what today is Algiers.

by Anonymousreply 36November 16, 2024 11:34 PM

Will Smith returned the favor to Denzel for his "Don't look like a punk" advice in "Sex Degrees of Separation."

by Anonymousreply 37November 18, 2024 5:53 PM

But they did keep the rapes of the Celtic slave boys in, right?

by Anonymousreply 38November 18, 2024 5:54 PM

Having seen this movie I'm not surprised since it's homophobic as fuck

by Anonymousreply 39November 18, 2024 6:08 PM

^ Details, please

by Anonymousreply 40November 18, 2024 6:21 PM

I’ve heard the Denzel character kills the guy he kisses. Just like in the Mel Gibson homophobic shitfest Braveheart, which won the best pic Oscar no less. To think members had a chance of picking four other superior films to this. Probably rewarded nutjob Gibson for making so much money for the industry.

by Anonymousreply 41November 18, 2024 7:20 PM

I think Will Smith was indiscreet for publicly sharing the advice he received from Denzel 30+ years ago. Smith was jumping from being a rapper to a sitcom star to a serious feature film actor. It's the same advice I would have given to a gay actor in 1993 -- 'don't kiss a man onscreen or you'll be forever typecast.' Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise did not kiss men onscreen in 1993. George Clooney, Leo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp did not kiss men onscreen in 1993. Later, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg did not kiss men onscreen. It was good, sound advice -- especially for a Black male sitcom star trying to prove himself in the movies -- but it made Denzel sound like an asshole.

by Anonymousreply 42November 18, 2024 8:36 PM

I guess the studio listened to Past Denzel's advice.

Anyway, it's Paul Mescal I want to watch kissing other guys, not some self-righteous "role model" who runs to console perpetrators of violence.

by Anonymousreply 43November 18, 2024 8:40 PM

I posted this in another thread about the movie. The idea that the film is homophobic is ridiculous.

My god this movie was a slog.

Really quite dull but THANK GOD for Denzel because he brought all of his scenes to life. The gay kiss wasn't really required as it's made clear the character enjoys cock now and then. Not really award worthy considering what else he's done but he steals every scene without going overboard. I think it's fair to call him the Male Meryl.

But there rest was just boring. Mescal was deathly dull. Pascal deathly dull. Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) and Fred Hechinger (White Lotus) as the evil emperors were just awful. That's 4 actors best known for TV, with no breakthrough movie performances.

by Anonymousreply 44November 18, 2024 8:43 PM

[quote] I think it's fair to call him the Male Meryl

It's he the male Viola Davis?

by Anonymousreply 45November 18, 2024 9:25 PM

True r1993 was a different world, although for many DLers it was yesterday. Even character actors back then would've been hesitant to do a gay character or love scene, never mind a leading man-type actor. Today it's no big deal but back then it could've damaged their careers.

by Anonymousreply 46November 18, 2024 11:43 PM

Yeah I heard Paul Mescal is terribly miscast in this. He is good at playing sensitive romantic guys, not some macho action lead.

by Anonymousreply 47November 19, 2024 12:18 AM

Paul Mescal looks like a bricklayer who beats his babymomma and gets drunk at the pub every night. I have no idea why he's so popular right now.

by Anonymousreply 48November 19, 2024 12:27 AM

Ridley, on the alleged gay kiss:

[quote] “No that’s bullshit… They acted the moment, it didn't happen.”

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 49November 19, 2024 4:55 AM

Ridley Scott turns 87 next week and has no fucks left to give.

by Anonymousreply 50November 19, 2024 5:09 AM

Why would Denzel make this up. Why would Ridley Scott make this up? Someone is clearly lying.

by Anonymousreply 51November 19, 2024 6:57 AM

[quote]"They acted the moment, it didn't happen."

So is he saying they did it but also that it never happened? I'm not sure I understand this response.

by Anonymousreply 52November 19, 2024 7:50 AM

R6 rest assured.Mescall is not gay

by Anonymousreply 53November 19, 2024 7:54 AM

Exactly r52 - WTF does that mean? He didn't have the camera on?

by Anonymousreply 54November 19, 2024 3:44 PM

I think Ridley Scott is saying they acted in a way to demonstrate their same sex romance/affair without explicitly kissing meaning they conveyed it to the audience that way but didn’t actually kiss.

Why would Denzel lie about this though. And when has he ever been known to be lie. I think the director might just be getting up there in age and doesn’t remember.

by Anonymousreply 55November 19, 2024 5:09 PM

Another interview with Denzel said he kissed a guy on the lips before he killed him, which is something his character would do.

The 2.5hr edit was boring, I can't imagine sitting through an extra hour.

by Anonymousreply 56November 19, 2024 5:38 PM

Do aliens come bursting out of any of the gladiators at a dramatic moment?

by Anonymousreply 57November 19, 2024 9:07 PM

I just saw this last night, at a five dollar mystery movie, (quite a change in the usual Indies they screen) and he does kiss a senator several times on the face, but not on the lips, before he takes his house in a lost wager.

The only indication the character is bisexual, is when someone says another guy does not like women, and Denzel's character says "neither do I on certain days" and laughs.

by Anonymousreply 58November 19, 2024 9:55 PM

Paul Mescal plays a sensitive masculine guy; he kills because he is forced to or for justice but spares other lives when necessary or due to love/loyalty.

by Anonymousreply 59November 19, 2024 9:58 PM

[quote] rest assured.Mescall is not gay

I didn't say he was, but have you seen them together? Pedro is playing with his ear while they're conducting an interview.

Paul Mescal loves flirting with his gay coworkers.

by Anonymousreply 61November 19, 2024 11:36 PM

Did anyone see Gladiator tonight? Your thoughts?
