"Viewers Flee MSNBC, and Flock to Fox News, in Wake of Election"
Prime-time viewership at MSNBC has fallen 53 percent from October, and jumped 21 percent on Fox News.
"“The Rachel Maddow Show,” the liberal network’s highest-rated program, drew 1.3 million viewers on Monday, about a million shy of her October average, according to Nielsen. In a crucial ratings metric — viewers under the age of 54 — it was the least-watched edition of the show since April 2022."
"MSNBC has averaged 550,000 viewers since Election Day, a 39 percent decline compared with the network’s average in October. In prime time, MSNBC’s audience has declined 53 percent, according to the Nielsen data."
"The opposite has happened at Fox News, MSNBC’s conservative rival. Fox’s audience in prime time has grown 21 percent since last Wednesday, with an average of 3.3 million viewers, according to Nielsen. Its total day audience has jumped 38 percent."

The on-air staff are well paid to grind it out everyday, no matter how they feel about the results of an election.
Viewers can take a break.
Their rating will rebound once the circus begins

If you were a viewer who heard for years from your news source that Biden is as sharp as a tack and more recently that Harris was ahead and guaranteed to win, wouldn’t you eventually get disillusioned with that news source and turn it off?

I haven't turned to Fox, but I have stopped watching MSNBC. While I was sitting there yelling for them to talk about the economy and the programs the Biden Administration has accomplished, all they talked about was a women's right to choose 24/7.

When there seemed to be good news for the Democrats, the Democrats watched the news (i.e., MSNBC); now that the news is dire for the Democrats, people are taking a break (maybe forever). And now that the news seems to be good for Trump, his supporters are now tuning in for the latest developments (on Fox).
The increase for Fox is not the same size as the decrease for MSNBC because there is no overlap between the two group. They are two different and distinct populations. Democrats are not tuning into Fox.

I watched MSNBC during Trump’s first go round. But the press at least kind of did its job back then… sort of. At least I remember negative stories about Trump. That won’t happen this time. Trump administration will go after every news outlet that criticizes him. So they all will say whatever he wants.

I can't imagine why their audience would be glued in right now. People are burnt out. They want a break from this mess. American idiots voted for Trump, let them deal with the consequences. Have to take a break but getting so emotionally worked up after that election.

I’m one of the viewers that stopped watching too. Because I couldn’t bear to watch the news while I was pissed off at the world.
But MSNBC didn’t promise this election would turn out the way it did, anymore than they preached consequences would be coming. Evil won on the 5th, and our country as we know it is as near mortal peril as it ever could be. But if we stop watching/supporting MSNBC or other bastions of journalism, the Pussygrabber and his fascists hoarde win. Because a big, MSNBC-sized hole in the mediasphere will just be filled by propaganda, hate, and lies.

R10 and R12, I'm also one of these viewers who's fled. For the same reasons. There was a moment not too far into the 11/5 election night coverage, well before even Georgia was called, where I started to detect a very slight tone shift from the panelists. Knowing they were seeing and hearing real-time information and figuring out how to report it, I recognized the tone shift and it immediately catapulted me back to 2016 and gave me a sick, horrible feeling. I could already tell where we were headed.
From that moment, I decided to savor these last couple months as much as I can and not let the circus intrude. No MSNBC until after the inauguration, no socials, just an occasional peek at local news for a few minutes a day. As much as I hate to say it, I'm even limiting my DL consumption. I wish Muriel would create a No-Trump filter, so that all threads and mentions of Trump are nuked for those like me who don't want to see them. Oh, well.

The DailyMail reports:
"CNN's shocking low ratings revealed as staff brace for mass layoffs"
"A critical demographic for network news channels are those aged 25 to 54, and on Tuesday - a week after the 2024 presidential election - CNN averaged 61,000 viewers in that range. "
"Overall daily viewership for daytime programming sat at 403,000 for the liberal outlet, whereas its competitor and conservative outlet Fox News brought in around 2.2million. "
"CNN's Election Day coverage also waned compared to previous cycles, with a huge downfall in viewership as it fell below MSNBC for the first time since the company launched, according to The Hollywood Reporter."
"CNN's dropping numbers have caused staff to become 'scared and frustrated' about looming layoffs."

Neither CNN nor MSNBC are liberal. And their ratings tanked because of their relentless bothsiderism, their right wing asshole commentators Scott Jennings and John Kasich, and their framing everything through a Republican viewpoint.
Obviously that will now get 100 times worse. Trump haters aren’t about to watch. Trump lovers already have Fox.

After a disastrous election like this one, watching MSNBC feels like going to square one on Monopoly. You’re starting from scratch and have nothing.
That’s one of the reasons nobody wants to watch. It won’t have anything relevant or positive to say for at least two years, if not longer.
The “Trump did this today“ daily disaster is not healthy for anyone and I think after his first term viewers realize that. There’s more mental wellness in whistling past the graveyard.

I have said it for years. CNN is unwatchable. And even MSNBC is a snooze. I'm sure not watching FOX but these news networks seriously need a revamp. Nobody is watching Anderson Cooper and his lousy ratings prove it. Instead of fixing it (replacing AC) the channel lazily does nothing. They get what they deserve. Joy Reid is a clown. Nobody is watching her.

Before the election, I watched MSNBC sparingly. Now I don't watch it at all. I gave up watching network news (CBS, NBC, ABC) during the 2000 election fiasco, now I'll ditch MSNBC permanently.
I was never a fan of St. Rachel of Maddow. She was a damned fool when she showed that front page of Trump's tax return and then said "Gotcha." The first page of a single tax return (especially one as complicated as Trump's) proves absolutely nothing. That this got on the air was a travesty and everybody involved with this debacle should have been shit canned on the spot, including her.
And as far as all of those so-called MSNBC "Trump is toast experts" i.e. Jason Johnson, Maya Wiley, Joyce Vance, Neil Katyal, they're not nearly as smart or as knowledgeable as they claim. Trump outfoxed them all. Are they even making appearances anymore?

I also check a few YouTube channels of people I've come to trust - (who aren't click-baiters like the once reliable MeidasTouch eventually became), and I follow a few on social networks: Twitter X, most of whom left and are now on Threads or BlueSky.
The one MSNBC anchor I still trust, (though sometimes disagree with), Medhi Hasan, has his own network now. I haven't paid to be a subscriber, but I still follow him for clips and articles.

MeidasTouch, which should be shunned forever, has found renewed purpose by using clickbait headlines about how every Trump voter now regrets it. I figured they’d be dead in the water, but they’re very resourceful.
After their daily “Trump is destroyed!“ Headlines every 15 minutes I figured they’d be toast. But they’re scrapping to survival.

It's a shame about MeidasTouch because they've got some great people and offer terrific insight. I guess it's the only way for them to stay in business? And the fact that it's become "their business" is a shame.
I remember when they started out. Their sole purpose was to inform and give out information pertaining to the 2016 election that wasn't being discussed elsewhere. It wasn't supposed to be a money machine.
I do believe they sincerely started with the best intentions.

I've posted this Leigh McGowan "Politics Girl" video on a few other threads.
It's 35 minutes of SOLID important information, more so near the end. Unfortunately, she has to break for commercials at the 17:45m for 2 minutes, and it's so cringe it causes people to turn it off and immediately dismiss what she's warning us about. I 've been recommending everyone I send it to, to start at the 33m mark - (where she really gets into the nitty gritty stuff), watch to the end, then start at the beginning, hoping they'd get all they need before reaching the commercials break.

Yes, it's entirely Joe & Mika's fault that Trump won. And MSNBC's. Zero other possible factors.
[quote]Bannon said MSNBC hosts and producers need to lawyer up because they’re going after them.
Well, if Bannon said it, it MUST be certifiable fact! 🙄
I get why you bitches are being so extra right now, but you're still reaching borderline Chicken Little-level hysterics. There are zero grounds for "going after" MSNBC: Fox News was severely penalized for thrusting false stolen-election claims and defaming Dominion Voting Systems, but that's *them*, not anyone else. It is thankfully extraordinarily difficult to wage a successful libel / slander / defamation case thanks to the Supreme Court's NYT v. Sullivan case. (Even if the Court were inclined to change it, the law isn't retroactive, so there'd be no way to "go after" MSNBC for anything stated before the revised precedent.) The DOJ can do its worst, but not even Trump can get them to simply "ignore" the law.
Btw as a gentle reminder, both the NYT & WaPo saw their subscriptions go through the roof after Trump was elected the first time. His constant references to "the FAILING New York Times" were actual irony: Trump is in large part why The Times did NOT fail! And MSNBC will remain the liberal counterpart to Faux News. No reason whatsoever to assume anything otherwise, despite the queens hysterically overreacting on this thread.
