"Viewers Flee MSNBC, and Flock to Fox News, in Wake of Election"

Prime-time viewership at MSNBC has fallen 53 percent from October, and jumped 21 percent on Fox News.

"“The Rachel Maddow Show,” the liberal network’s highest-rated program, drew 1.3 million viewers on Monday, about a million shy of her October average, according to Nielsen. In a crucial ratings metric — viewers under the age of 54 — it was the least-watched edition of the show since April 2022."

"MSNBC has averaged 550,000 viewers since Election Day, a 39 percent decline compared with the network’s average in October. In prime time, MSNBC’s audience has declined 53 percent, according to the Nielsen data."

"The opposite has happened at Fox News, MSNBC’s conservative rival. Fox’s audience in prime time has grown 21 percent since last Wednesday, with an average of 3.3 million viewers, according to Nielsen. Its total day audience has jumped 38 percent."

Obviously not the same audience.

by Anonymousreply 1November 13, 2024 7:27 PM

I was barely watching MSNBC by last summer anyway but when they all started yammering for Biden to quit, I stopped watching for good.

by Anonymousreply 2November 13, 2024 7:43 PM

The on-air staff are well paid to grind it out everyday, no matter how they feel about the results of an election.

Viewers can take a break.

Their rating will rebound once the circus begins

by Anonymousreply 3November 13, 2024 7:48 PM

You dirty homos are traitors! You just gonna stop watching MSNBC? Why? It’s not like you fags have anything better to do.

What, are you too busy putting your tongues in each other’s anus? Trying to taste doo doo?

You all are so gross and nasty.

Nasty!

by Anonymousreply 4November 13, 2024 7:56 PM

I do not watch TV news much these days. Was MSNBC making it seem like a Kamala win was likely?

by Anonymousreply 5November 13, 2024 7:59 PM

If you were a viewer who heard for years from your news source that Biden is as sharp as a tack and more recently that Harris was ahead and guaranteed to win, wouldn’t you eventually get disillusioned with that news source and turn it off?

by Anonymousreply 6November 13, 2024 8:18 PM

I haven't turned to Fox, but I have stopped watching MSNBC. While I was sitting there yelling for them to talk about the economy and the programs the Biden Administration has accomplished, all they talked about was a women's right to choose 24/7.

by Anonymousreply 7November 13, 2024 9:12 PM

When there seemed to be good news for the Democrats, the Democrats watched the news (i.e., MSNBC); now that the news is dire for the Democrats, people are taking a break (maybe forever). And now that the news seems to be good for Trump, his supporters are now tuning in for the latest developments (on Fox).

The increase for Fox is not the same size as the decrease for MSNBC because there is no overlap between the two group. They are two different and distinct populations. Democrats are not tuning into Fox.

by Anonymousreply 8November 13, 2024 9:35 PM

I watched MSNBC during Trump’s first go round. But the press at least kind of did its job back then… sort of. At least I remember negative stories about Trump. That won’t happen this time. Trump administration will go after every news outlet that criticizes him. So they all will say whatever he wants.

by Anonymousreply 9November 14, 2024 3:32 AM

I’m one of the viewers that fled. They lost so much credibility. Why the hell would I watch now? They preach consequence. It’s their turn.

by Anonymousreply 10November 14, 2024 3:41 AM

I can't imagine why their audience would be glued in right now. People are burnt out. They want a break from this mess. American idiots voted for Trump, let them deal with the consequences. Have to take a break but getting so emotionally worked up after that election.

by Anonymousreply 11November 14, 2024 3:45 AM

[quote] I’m one of the viewers that fled. They lost so much credibility. Why the hell would I watch now? They preach consequence. It’s their turn.

I’m one of the viewers that stopped watching too. Because I couldn’t bear to watch the news while I was pissed off at the world.

But MSNBC didn’t promise this election would turn out the way it did, anymore than they preached consequences would be coming. Evil won on the 5th, and our country as we know it is as near mortal peril as it ever could be. But if we stop watching/supporting MSNBC or other bastions of journalism, the Pussygrabber and his fascists hoarde win. Because a big, MSNBC-sized hole in the mediasphere will just be filled by propaganda, hate, and lies.

by Anonymousreply 12November 14, 2024 4:18 AM

R10 and R12, I'm also one of these viewers who's fled. For the same reasons. There was a moment not too far into the 11/5 election night coverage, well before even Georgia was called, where I started to detect a very slight tone shift from the panelists. Knowing they were seeing and hearing real-time information and figuring out how to report it, I recognized the tone shift and it immediately catapulted me back to 2016 and gave me a sick, horrible feeling. I could already tell where we were headed.

From that moment, I decided to savor these last couple months as much as I can and not let the circus intrude. No MSNBC until after the inauguration, no socials, just an occasional peek at local news for a few minutes a day. As much as I hate to say it, I'm even limiting my DL consumption. I wish Muriel would create a No-Trump filter, so that all threads and mentions of Trump are nuked for those like me who don't want to see them. Oh, well.

by Anonymousreply 13November 14, 2024 4:45 AM

Cosign R13, word for word.

by Anonymousreply 14November 14, 2024 5:22 AM

The DailyMail reports:

"CNN's shocking low ratings revealed as staff brace for mass layoffs"

"A critical demographic for network news channels are those aged 25 to 54, and on Tuesday - a week after the 2024 presidential election - CNN averaged 61,000 viewers in that range. "

"Overall daily viewership for daytime programming sat at 403,000 for the liberal outlet, whereas its competitor and conservative outlet Fox News brought in around 2.2million. "

"CNN's Election Day coverage also waned compared to previous cycles, with a huge downfall in viewership as it fell below MSNBC for the first time since the company launched, according to The Hollywood Reporter."

"CNN's dropping numbers have caused staff to become 'scared and frustrated' about looming layoffs."

by Anonymousreply 15November 14, 2024 10:27 PM

Neither CNN nor MSNBC are liberal. And their ratings tanked because of their relentless bothsiderism, their right wing asshole commentators Scott Jennings and John Kasich, and their framing everything through a Republican viewpoint.

Obviously that will now get 100 times worse. Trump haters aren’t about to watch. Trump lovers already have Fox.

by Anonymousreply 16November 14, 2024 10:47 PM

After a disastrous election like this one, watching MSNBC feels like going to square one on Monopoly. You’re starting from scratch and have nothing.

That’s one of the reasons nobody wants to watch. It won’t have anything relevant or positive to say for at least two years, if not longer.

The “Trump did this today“ daily disaster is not healthy for anyone and I think after his first term viewers realize that. There’s more mental wellness in whistling past the graveyard.

by Anonymousreply 17November 14, 2024 10:55 PM

You know, if Kamala Harris had won, you still would have seen a die off on MSNBC.

With all the "good" news, there'd no longer be a reason to watch.

by Anonymousreply 18November 14, 2024 10:57 PM

R18 True. MSNBC is a momentary beacon of support. Fox is a lifestyle.

by Anonymousreply 19November 14, 2024 10:58 PM

SCRIPPS NEWS CHANNEL closed down today. They used to broadcast over the airwaves. Lots of layoffs.

by Anonymousreply 20November 14, 2024 11:05 PM

I have said it for years. CNN is unwatchable. And even MSNBC is a snooze. I'm sure not watching FOX but these news networks seriously need a revamp. Nobody is watching Anderson Cooper and his lousy ratings prove it. Instead of fixing it (replacing AC) the channel lazily does nothing. They get what they deserve. Joy Reid is a clown. Nobody is watching her.

by Anonymousreply 21November 14, 2024 11:21 PM

[quote] Joy Reid is a clown. Nobody is watching her.

Dirty anus licker!

I bet you put your wee wee in a hole in restrooms so strangers can lick it. And then you kiss a doo doo hole.

That’s where food turns into doo doo!

So gross!

by Anonymousreply 22November 14, 2024 11:28 PM

Before the election, I watched MSNBC sparingly. Now I don't watch it at all. I gave up watching network news (CBS, NBC, ABC) during the 2000 election fiasco, now I'll ditch MSNBC permanently.

I was never a fan of St. Rachel of Maddow. She was a damned fool when she showed that front page of Trump's tax return and then said "Gotcha." The first page of a single tax return (especially one as complicated as Trump's) proves absolutely nothing. That this got on the air was a travesty and everybody involved with this debacle should have been shit canned on the spot, including her.

And as far as all of those so-called MSNBC "Trump is toast experts" i.e. Jason Johnson, Maya Wiley, Joyce Vance, Neil Katyal, they're not nearly as smart or as knowledgeable as they claim. Trump outfoxed them all. Are they even making appearances anymore?

by Anonymousreply 23November 14, 2024 11:56 PM

MSNBC become parody to me when Melissa Harris-Perry did her “Darth Vader is racist” routine.

It was like a parody spoof of liberal nonsense.

I still laugh about it when I think about it because it’s so ridiculous and a hair short of insanity.

by Anonymousreply 24November 15, 2024 12:01 AM

We can't see the OP, which means it was written by one of our worst trolls. Be careful, DLers.

by Anonymousreply 25November 15, 2024 12:04 AM

I stopped watching news. I now subscribe to the Heather Cox Richardson Daily Newsletter. It sums up everything I need to know, along with American history to back it up.

I also check a few YouTube channels of people I've come to trust - (who aren't click-baiters like the once reliable MeidasTouch eventually became), and I follow a few on social networks: Twitter X, most of whom left and are now on Threads or BlueSky.

The one MSNBC anchor I still trust, (though sometimes disagree with), Medhi Hasan, has his own network now. I haven't paid to be a subscriber, but I still follow him for clips and articles.

by Anonymousreply 26November 15, 2024 12:05 AM

R25 It’s Teacake. He’s responsible for about 75% of threads.

Now watch him appear out of nowhere because he’s mentioned.

by Anonymousreply 27November 15, 2024 12:06 AM

[quote] who aren't click-baiters like the once reliable MeidasTouch eventually became

MeidasTouch, which should be shunned forever, has found renewed purpose by using clickbait headlines about how every Trump voter now regrets it. I figured they’d be dead in the water, but they’re very resourceful.

After their daily “Trump is destroyed!“ Headlines every 15 minutes I figured they’d be toast. But they’re scrapping to survival.

by Anonymousreply 28November 15, 2024 12:08 AM

[quote]I stopped watching news. I now subscribe to the Heather Cox Richardson Daily Newsletter. It sums up everything I need to know, along with American history to back it up.

R26, do you live near Philly? If so, I think you may be my mother. (But seriously, she's also stopped watching the news and encouraged me to sign up for Heather's newsletter.)

by Anonymousreply 29November 15, 2024 12:09 AM

I used to love Meidas Touch. But I had to unsubscribe. Just seeing all these screaming yellow titles in my feed was more than I could take when I knew the videos weren’t going to make me feel any better. I still love Ron Filipkowski though and follow him on bluesky. He’s been right about so many things.

by Anonymousreply 30November 15, 2024 12:11 AM

R30 they get hundreds of thousands of views, and the production value is worse than a hostage video.

They just say what everybody wants to hear. Even if it’s deluded and devoid of reality.

The two brothers who help run it just seem like extremely calculating opportunists preying on the sadness of viewers.

by Anonymousreply 31November 15, 2024 12:15 AM

MSNBC needs to clean house.

First:

Get rid of pussy boy Chris Hayes.

Get rid of Joy.

Get rid of Ari.

Then hire some firebrand fighter who actually is dynamic. Preferably a white male.

Their current lineup is so out of touch.

by Anonymousreply 32November 15, 2024 12:22 AM

R25 & R27 = nuts

by Anonymousreply 33November 15, 2024 12:26 AM

R33 = Teacake

by Anonymousreply 34November 15, 2024 12:29 AM

Maybe Joe Scarborough claiming that Biden was "cogent -- no, not just cogent. Intellectually he's the best he's ever been" just a couple of weeks before that debate has something to do with this.

by Anonymousreply 35November 15, 2024 12:30 AM

R34 Let it go. No, I'm not teacake. But believe what you will.

I posted an article from the NYTimes about a topical issue. Comment about the article and stop your ridiculous crap. It's annoying and the posters here don't deserve it.

by Anonymousreply 36November 15, 2024 12:37 AM

[quote]Then hire some firebrand fighter who actually is dynamic. Preferably a white male. Their current lineup is so out of touch.

If CNN and MSNBC were smart they'd recruit some popular podcasters and YouTubers. There is talent out there.

by Anonymousreply 37November 15, 2024 1:44 AM

Closet case Tyler is a joke. Another reason I'm passing on MSNBC.

by Anonymousreply 38November 15, 2024 1:48 AM

R36 is definitely Teacake.

by Anonymousreply 39November 15, 2024 2:07 AM

It's a shame about MeidasTouch because they've got some great people and offer terrific insight. I guess it's the only way for them to stay in business? And the fact that it's become "their business" is a shame.

I remember when they started out. Their sole purpose was to inform and give out information pertaining to the 2016 election that wasn't being discussed elsewhere. It wasn't supposed to be a money machine.

I do believe they sincerely started with the best intentions.

by Anonymousreply 40November 15, 2024 6:00 AM

I've posted this Leigh McGowan "Politics Girl" video on a few other threads.

It's 35 minutes of SOLID important information, more so near the end. Unfortunately, she has to break for commercials at the 17:45m for 2 minutes, and it's so cringe it causes people to turn it off and immediately dismiss what she's warning us about. I 've been recommending everyone I send it to, to start at the 33m mark - (where she really gets into the nitty gritty stuff), watch to the end, then start at the beginning, hoping they'd get all they need before reaching the commercials break.

Joe and Mika are such hypocrites. They created Trump by having him on constantly during the 2015 primaries. They even begged to come to Mir a Lago for New Year's Eve.

NOW they hate him.

by Anonymousreply 42November 15, 2024 6:50 AM

Bannon said MSNBC hosts and producers need to lawyer up because they’re going after them. Let’s see how long it takes MSNBC to turn into Fox Jr.

by Anonymousreply 43November 15, 2024 12:21 PM

MSNBC needs to dispense some actual,News. Get real reporters to give info about what’s happening now. They could also add more males to add to the mix. The testosterone level is too low.

by Anonymousreply 44November 15, 2024 12:30 PM

I’m so tired of seeing people on CNN and MSNBC who comment and actually know nothing. It can’t be that hard to hire more real reporters.

by Anonymousreply 45November 15, 2024 12:33 PM

[quote]They created Trump by having him on constantly during the 2015 primaries.

Yes, it's entirely Joe & Mika's fault that Trump won. And MSNBC's. Zero other possible factors.

[quote]Bannon said MSNBC hosts and producers need to lawyer up because they’re going after them.

Well, if Bannon said it, it MUST be certifiable fact! 🙄

I get why you bitches are being so extra right now, but you're still reaching borderline Chicken Little-level hysterics. There are zero grounds for "going after" MSNBC: Fox News was severely penalized for thrusting false stolen-election claims and defaming Dominion Voting Systems, but that's *them*, not anyone else. It is thankfully extraordinarily difficult to wage a successful libel / slander / defamation case thanks to the Supreme Court's NYT v. Sullivan case. (Even if the Court were inclined to change it, the law isn't retroactive, so there'd be no way to "go after" MSNBC for anything stated before the revised precedent.) The DOJ can do its worst, but not even Trump can get them to simply "ignore" the law.

Btw as a gentle reminder, both the NYT & WaPo saw their subscriptions go through the roof after Trump was elected the first time. His constant references to "the FAILING New York Times" were actual irony: Trump is in large part why The Times did NOT fail! And MSNBC will remain the liberal counterpart to Faux News. No reason whatsoever to assume anything otherwise, despite the queens hysterically overreacting on this thread.

by Anonymousreply 46November 15, 2024 3:44 PM

I have to admit finding Scott Jennings to be easy on the eyes

by Anonymousreply 47November 15, 2024 4:00 PM

Remember when MSNBC decided to trend right after 2016 and hired that harelip Greta Van Susteren? She lasted a couple of months and then their ratings went back up when they retooled and went in a resistance mode. It'll happen again, it'll take a little time. People are still reeling over this election at the moment.

by Anonymousreply 48November 15, 2024 4:17 PM

[QUOTE] Joe and Mika are such hypocrites. They created Trump by having him on constantly during the 2015 primaries. They even begged to come to Mir a Lago for New Year's Eve.

Mika has substance abuse problem and Joe is just a BITCH.
