Who believes $20,000 cash was stolen from Travis Kelce's house ?

Football's superstar Travis Kelce claims he had $20,000 in cash stolen from his home during a burglary on October 7, 2 days after he turned 35. Was that birthday cash his relatives sent to him in a birthday card ?

For decades, Judge Judy never believed it when a plaintiff said they had paid someone with $1,000 in cash they had in their house. "Do you think I'm stupid?" she would ask. "No one keeps that kind of cash in their house. You keep it in a bank ! A checking account ! A savings account! Not under your mattress. Do you understand me ?" she'd holler at them on national television.

Then ten months ago, DA Fani Willis testified in court that Black people don't keep money in the bank - due to long held 'mistrust issues' in the black community. Willis kept her life savings in cash in her home, in a safe - just like her daddy did. "It's a Black thing" she testified.

Well Kelce is not Black, so there's no reason why he would keep all that cash in his house. As Judge Judy would say - he would keep it in the bank - in a savings account or checking account.

Who believes he's telling the truth ?

Maybe he likes cocaine.

I know some white people who have considerably more than that squirreled away at home, most of it accumulated from years of being paid cash under the table.

I keep a coupke grand in ready cash for emergencies. It’s under lock and key. Stuff happens and sometime you cam access a bank, ATMS go down. This afternoon I’ll be going to a bank because the put a block on an account which i control as trustee. The bank blocked the account due to their error, they thought the beneficiary had died. Ive had my personal checking blocked when I made a large purchase on Amazon, when on vacation, when I went to a laundromat when my machine was being repaired. I want the security of a few bucks squirreled away. If I had kelce’s money, I probably would keep 25K in small bills, but it would be in a safe in the back of a walk in closet, or perhaps in a wall covered by a picture.

The only people I know who kept serious cash at home have been superannuated and have usually forgotten about where they hid it.

My dad used to keep between 5-10K somewhere in his dresser drawers in case of emergencies or whatever. The bank interest rates were very low so keeping it in the bank made little difference from an earnings perspective.

I keep cash in a couple of places, in my home. In case. Only my partner knows where the money is at.

It sounds like Kelce either bragged to the wrong person, who ripped him off, or needs to hire a better cleaning service, as the one he's using found some of his cash and ripped him off.

Either way, he's way too trusting if an individual. Never tell people the location of the $.

This should have been a poll!

He should have kept the cash in fake cans of soda.

Lots of men, particularly sportsmen, like to gamble and play cards with their buddies. For many, it’s $20 ante of poker but for high-net worth guys those hands can be $1000 or much more per hand.

Of course most use chips when playing their hands but when settling up at the end of the night, I understand it’s bad form for losers to pay by check or Venmo.

My aunt had $20k in a small safe in her house when she passed away. For years, I never saw her not use cash when paying for something, usually with hundred dollar bills.

We have around $7000 hidden in our house, in case we need emergency cash.

by Anonymousreply 11November 13, 2024 3:52 PM

R1 That too.

You know I don't believe any of you ? Do you think I was born yesterday ? No one keeps that kind of cash in their house. There are savings accounts and checking accounts that people keep their money in. You're all fibbing.

Why not? My parents kept enough tens of thousands in cash years ago (their reasons not exactly clear to me.) I keep cash on hand as a hedge against cash machine withdrawal limits, in case I need cash for a gift, or to pay a tradesman, to buy from some secondhand goods dealers, or to use on holidays in places where restaurants and lease expenses are often requested in cash (Germany, for example.)

Bizum and direct bank to bank transfers are easy and free, but sometimes cash is simpler than transfers or -- my preferred means-- cards.

Of course many DLers use only personal checks, the ledger form kind, in the deluxe leather bound register that's kept locked in the right top drawer of Mother's desk.

Who gives a mother fuck? I sure as hell don’t.
