Post-Election Mood Survey

I went for a walk today. That’s the first time in a month and I’m hoping it means I’m coming out of a depression that the election made much worse.

Indifference to amusement.

I don't expect to advance beyond anger/depression/avoidance for the next four years. Though I'm hoping to spend most of my time in avoidance.

There will be no "acceptance" for what happened last week as long as I live. In 40 years, when I am old and gray, I still won't piss on a former Trump voter if he's on fire.

I'm bummed out, but not to the point where I am going to take to my bed for the next four years. I'm going to try to tune out the noise and just live my life. But yeah, currently feel disappointed and withdrawn.

How about "cautious"? I'm kinda taking a 'wait and see' approach as to what'll happen with ACA, Medicare, SS, etc, as well as the environmental issues which I care about.

Pissed off at the handful of clients I have to still work with that I know are MAGA.

I felt like shit on Wednesday, by Friday I was more or less over it. The only thing rehashing, relitigating, and recriminations are going to do is allow Trump to live in my head rent free. The people have spoken. I survived Trump 1 and I will survive Trump 2.

I was fine for a few days, then the last couple of days have been dark again - and I don't know why.

I'm fucking eating a slice of cake right now - and I don't really eat sweets. I had one yesterday too. (Bought 1 slice at a time - didn't buy a whole cake to kill myself).

Oh c'mon. Maybe because I'm of a certain age but this too shall pass.

There will be the mid-terms in 2 years. They'll be another Presidential election in four.

And chances are, the next four years will be a disaster. They'll be buyers remorse for sure. So there's that.

Look, we just got through 4 shitty years of Biden....but life goes on.

I’m really concerned about the financial impact this is about to cause. I plan on reviewing all of my saved vids regarding crypto currencies, & will keep a close eye on the market, so that I can at least make some money this time around.

I am concerned that the economy will take too big of a hit, & that I won’t be able to do much, as a result. It’s a race against time & making enough money to make more money, & I’m not confident that I’ll have enough of either, in order to make this work for me.

Scared. I’m really scared. With no oversight in a good way re: food safety (recalls, pesticide usage,) razing of forests, pollution control protocols eliminated, SS, Medicare potentially gone or severely limited; prescription price gouging…all that stuff and more is so frightening. How are most of us going to survive?

I’m imagining a robust black market for a variety of things. I think there will be underground abortions, gay bars. I also think people will get very creative in trying to survive. Crime and homelessness will be out of control.

These fuckers are cartoon Superhero villains who want to destroy the world with only them and their handful of minions and a few rich people surviving.

Trump and some of his ilk are fragile, disturbed, wimps who have to prove to themselves and others that they’re not. Others are just plain evil.

The end game is Dystopia where everyone suffers, except the victor.

I was reading a thread yesterday, where some idiot wrote that the democrats aren’t going to like what’s coming, & will suffer as a result.

All I could think was that it’s not democrats who will suffer, as much as it’s Americans who make less than $400K annually. That’s the majority of Americans.

That’s what this administration is all about: bankrupting everything and everyone all at once.

It’s frightening, & the majority of us are completely powerless for at least 2 years, which is why it is all moving VERY quickly.

I’m genuinely scared. This will impact all of us in ways that really matter, & it’s not hyperbolic to state that millions are about to experience a reality in which they’re unprepared to live in, & will not know what the fuck just hit them.

I am depressed and terrified. If I were not keeping very busy attempting to collect the various documents I need to get a Pensionado Visa in Panama, I'd probably already have shot myself in the head. But I am so busy I can barely think straight, so that's good. And listening to people like Laurence O'Donnell talking about how it will be virtually impossible for Trump to do the things he's said he's going to do is somewhat comforting.

But I still think Americans for the most part are being pathetically naive. Someone was writing about how difficult it is to fire federal employees, how there are appeals processes in place for those employees, etc., and I'm thinking, "You really think that's going to stop Trump?"

So I'm plugging away at getting that visa in my back pocket for when it's time to jump. And knowing I'm working at that is helping keep me sane.

If anyone knows how to find a good, honest, and inexpensive immigration lawyer in Panama, let me know. I know you DLers are chock full of that kind of wisdom!! TIA

Hate to be Debbie Downer but I will. Everyone said the first time "you are over reacting, not the end of the world, the sun will come out tomorrow" Yeah, until COVID hit. Then 1 million dead. The reason I want to remind people of this is that Trump was INCAPABLE of handling a national crisis. It may not be COVID, but with in the next 4 years it's very likely some other national crisis will arise and once again Dump will be incapable of managing just like the last time. I’m surprised by how quickly I snapped out of it. This is not at all like 2016. Of course, in 2016 I was living in Ohio, now I’m back in Massachusetts. So that’s one factor.

I know how terrible this sounds, but the only thing that will truly frighten me is if the stock market tanks, the housing market (prices) completely collapses, or inflation switches into overdrive.

In other words, as long as I have money, then I can ride it out.

And if I lose my money, then it can only mean the entire country has collapsed, and we are all going down. And frankly, as long as we’re all going down together, I can live with that too.

Here is some tough love. He has the Senate and now the House; he's going to 'govern,' more or less, unchecked and without guardrails for 2 years. Those not handling this well should get that in check ( by talking to someone, getting therapy, or joining a group), and I'm dead serious and no shade. Don't let this man destroy your mental health. Our institutions will stand; our federal government is a behemoth that would take years to unwind. It's not gonna be a pretty 2 years, but you'll get through it if you tune it out.

I find I keep seeking out content or opinion about how the Democrats claw back in 2026 and beyond. I am looking for hope.

I am a blend of denial and depression (as a result of fear.) You'll be furious with me for even saying this, but I am struggling with the reality that there really aren't any decent Republicans, that the country is as hard hearted and greedy (and in some quarters, stupid) as I knew but tried not to believe.

I think everyone here is overestimating his competence. His cabinet picks so far have been mostly a joke.

They're going to take a long time to put together plans - then announce them - and it will be a firestorm and shitshow.

I know he has the House, Senate and Supreme Court - but you have to be somewhat competent to get massive reforms done. They have none - and will be resisted by many people - including their own party.

A lot of moderate Republicans are looking at this and going - Oh shit.

Some of them will start running for the exists, R34... shortly before and definitely after the polls turn and the midterms. Public sentiment about the economy made them and will break them. Trump and his team aren't governing for the majority and that will harm them politically in the end.

My mood?

Grim determination/resolve.

I've been in the depression stage, but getting close to acceptance. With every passing day and seeing the clown car of nominees for Trump's new administration, I'm becoming more and more confident that he's going to fuck up quicker than anticipated. That's been my advice to people since the beginning, to stop pitying themselves and stop focusing on partisan politics and to start trying to do something for other people instead.

It has grim potential to be the thing that kills the planet. Trump is nothing at this point but hatred and resentment and his cabinet has thus far not a shred of professionalism or personal ethics to it. We can see from recent history that Republicans are more mindful of how actions can be used by the other side when that side inevitably come to power. The nuclear option that Harry Reid used is the only reason that Trump has the three SC justices on the bench that he nominated. Reid opened the door to removing the filibuster for SC justices. The Republicans are not going to want to do anything like Reid did that could hand Democrats the justification to turnaround and do the same thing.
