Whoopi Goldberg admits she'd leave “The View” if she had more money

"If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, okay?" Goldberg told "The View" audience.

The View star and Oscar-winning icon Whoopi Goldberg is hustling for her paycheck just like the rest of America, thank you very much.

One day before her 69th birthday, the Ghost actress and View cohost said on Tuesday's live show that she identified with the struggles of the working class and that, if she were the richest person alive, she wouldn't show up to moderate the long-running ABC talk show anymore.

"I appreciate that people are having a hard time. Me, too. I work for a living," Goldberg said, breaking growing tension about Donald Trump's second-term presidency that arose during a Hot Topic about Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez asking her social media followers about their voting practices.

Goldberg then turned to the studio audience to stress, "If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, okay? So, I'm a working person, you know?"

"My kid has to feed her family. My great-granddaughter has to be fed by her family. I know it's hard out there," she continued. "I love what [Ocasio-Cortez] did. Yay. We talk to people all the time who say, 'This is what's bothering me.' But, the thing that's bothering everybody should not be the thing that puts 85 percent of other people in danger. I think that's what we're saying."

The moment recalled former cohost Meghan McCain's past comments about what she suggested was a disconnect between the show's lineup and the public tuning in.

“I had an experience while I was working at ABC News [on The View]. I was in a particularly heated Hot Topics meeting. I remember yelling at the meeting that, 'Some of you' or 'All of you are going to have to start interacting with people who don’t make $100,000 a year or more. You have to interact with someone who makes minimum wage on some level or another,'" McCain said in April.

Outside of OG panelist Joy Behar, who was absent from the table on Tuesday's broadcast, Goldberg is the longest-running permanent cohost on the show, having first joined the program in 2007.

In addition to her time on the show, Goldberg hasn't skimped on her acting prowess, as she's appeared in several major projects in recent years, including on TV shows like The Stand, Harlem, and returning as Guinan for two episodes of Star Trek: Picard.

She's also currently at work on bringing Sister Act 3 to Disney+, having revealed last week during an interview with Jimmy Fallon that the script had to be reworked following the death of Maggie Smith, who seemingly would've returned for the third film in the series.

I can't believe this bitch had the nerve to compare herself to the working class.

Talk about out of touch.

Too much is never enough for Whoopi.

by Anonymousreply 1November 12, 2024 8:08 PM

She's that strapped for cash give me a fucking break.

by Anonymousreply 2November 12, 2024 8:10 PM

She supports a million grandkids and a few great grandkids.

by Anonymousreply 3November 12, 2024 8:10 PM

She does work or a living. But she is FILTHY RICH. This is tone deaf.

by Anonymousreply 4November 12, 2024 8:11 PM

work work?

by Anonymousreply 5November 12, 2024 8:11 PM

I agree, this just screams bubble r4. What the hell does she get paid, and why is it never enough? And I'm sorry, why the hell is she supporting everyone in her family. Get the fuck out and get a fucking job if grandma can't just keep giving you money.

by Anonymousreply 6November 12, 2024 8:13 PM

This bitch.

by Anonymousreply 7November 12, 2024 8:14 PM

I’ll gladly take your job, Whoopie.

by Anonymousreply 8November 12, 2024 8:15 PM

Has Mooghan commented yet?

by Anonymousreply 9November 12, 2024 8:16 PM

[quote]She's also currently at work on bringing Sister Act 3 to Disney+,

How much they payin' you for that Whoopi?

by Anonymousreply 10November 12, 2024 8:17 PM

I'm available!

by Anonymousreply 11November 12, 2024 8:17 PM

The struggle is real y'all

by Anonymousreply 12November 12, 2024 8:19 PM

Why do so many here still watch garbage like "The View?"

by Anonymousreply 13November 12, 2024 8:20 PM

I'm glad the article pointed this out.

She is clearly making a shit-ton of money as a veteran on "The View," in addition to her television appearances, and the upcoming Sister Act 3.

That's a lot of money coming in.

by Anonymousreply 14November 12, 2024 8:20 PM

Why do so many of these people work until they’re dead? Surely more to life at 69, like your last years on Earth.

by Anonymousreply 15November 12, 2024 8:21 PM

Google says she's worth 60 mil and makes 8 mil a year on the View

by Anonymousreply 16November 12, 2024 8:21 PM

Let's start a Go Fund Me

by Anonymousreply 17November 12, 2024 8:22 PM

[quote] Google says she's worth 60 mil and makes 8 mil a year on the View

The "working people" she compares herself to, would never make that much money in an entire lifetime.

That's what makes this statement by her so disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 18November 12, 2024 8:27 PM

She has to feed her grandbabies caviar and champagne.

by Anonymousreply 19November 12, 2024 8:28 PM

Can we start a Gofundme page for her to kinda move things along?

by Anonymousreply 20November 12, 2024 8:35 PM

She needs another time out.

Also, her edges. Yikes.

by Anonymousreply 21November 12, 2024 8:36 PM

She lives in a secluded mansion in Montclair N.J. away from the working class, I’m sure she’s not hurting. I used to like her now she’s just so annoying and that tired valley girl slang, ugh.

by Anonymousreply 22November 12, 2024 8:58 PM

Is there some reason her daughter and granddaughter can't work?

Wouldn't it have been more prudent and cheaper for Whoopi to pay for her daughter and granddaughter to go to college and make careers for themselves? And by career I don't mean her daughter coming on The View years ago to sell her brand of nail polish. Have the great grandchildren looked into the default career for nepo babies of "modeling"?

Whoopi should look at Bruce Willis as a cautionary tale. Three grown daughters who don't work and he had to continue making movies long after his dementia was evident.

by Anonymousreply 23November 12, 2024 9:05 PM

I hope she gets a visitation tonight from the ghost of Barbara Walters.

by Anonymousreply 24November 12, 2024 9:07 PM

Yup, r23. If you are Whoopi Goldberg's nepo baby, you can find a fucking job if you want. And nepo grandkid, same shit. No you won't costar, but somebody can stick you in some damn stupid thing just cause they want to get closer to Whoopi.

by Anonymousreply 25November 12, 2024 9:07 PM

She makes 8 million a year on The View. WTF else does she need to call it quits?

by Anonymousreply 26November 12, 2024 9:08 PM

Does anyone else in her family work?

by Anonymousreply 27November 12, 2024 9:10 PM

The show's producers should can her ass for saying she is only on for the money.

by Anonymousreply 28November 12, 2024 9:12 PM

Fuck Hoopie

by Anonymousreply 29November 12, 2024 9:24 PM

Somebody PLEASE pay her to leave the show! We can't stand to smell her rancid farts anymore!

by Anonymousreply 30November 12, 2024 9:26 PM

I'll bet she supports her entire extended family. Seems to be a thing among many black folk. You'd be surprised how much that costs. She's a dumb twat though, either way. I recall Whitney doing the same, and Michael. I have noticed this trend among rich black people in particular.

by Anonymousreply 31November 12, 2024 9:31 PM

Reminder yo - I'll be appearing as Miss Hannigan in Annie at the theatre at Madison Square Garden December 11, 2024 through January 5, 2025.

Takin' shit jobs fo mo money, y'all. A girls gotta eat n' make ends meet.

by Anonymousreply 32November 12, 2024 9:35 PM

Does she have a gambling addiction or something?

by Anonymousreply 33November 12, 2024 9:36 PM

And yet, a large part of our population hangs on to every dumb word uttered by celebrities.

Celebrities are not us, we are not them. Again, who gives a fuck what they think. Stay in your lane Hollywood elite.

by Anonymousreply 34November 12, 2024 9:37 PM

What happened to her Hollywood Squares money?

by Anonymousreply 35November 12, 2024 10:56 PM

I've always liked Whoopie, I respected her for her drive to make it in Hollywood, despite being very unconventional looking. She made it, is EGOT, etc.

But damn this was a stupid thing to say. Read the room Whoopie. Your struggle is not our struggle.

by Anonymousreply 36November 12, 2024 11:13 PM

[quote] So, I'm a working person, you know?

…but is it work-work?

by Anonymousreply 37November 12, 2024 11:17 PM

Michael and Whitney needed to support their families in exchange for keeping their secrets while they were on top of the world.

Not sure what Whoopis excuse is.

by Anonymousreply 38November 12, 2024 11:28 PM

I saw The View when Whoopie said this. I am a fan of The View, but Whoopi lost all credibility when she came out with this pile of nonsense.

The point of the discussion at the time was the challenges of the working class. Whoopi did not think and spoke way too much in offering her opinion on this topic.

It was unfortunate that she didn't catch herself and just shut up. She was wrong, and her contribution to the discussion at that point was cringeworthy.

by Anonymousreply 39November 12, 2024 11:44 PM

R15, many famous people work until the very end because they cannot possibly fathom the idea of not being relevant and considered great successes by both the public and their peers. There is a strong element of narcissism and egomania in celebrity culture, and these people need to feed their egos constantly.

In addition, most of them lead EXTREMELY luxurious lifestyles, with several palatial homes, hueg staff, flying around in private jets (which is unbelievably expensive), buying anything they want and supporting their family in style, as R23 mentions. Many Hollywood celebrities have that tacky "I'm too rich for my kids to work like plebeians - they should lead idle lives like 18th Century aristocrats!" mindset, which is enormous drain on anyone's finances, unless we're talking about the likes of Bezos, Musk, Gates or the Onassis family. When you're used to spending millions of dollars every year on what you consider to be the most basic things and refuse to downsize, money is an issue. Furthermore, if you are bankrolling all your descendants, who expect to also live like potentates, you need to bring in as much as possible or soon enough, you'll have no money left at all.

In short, these people often are ignorant rubes who got lucky and truly see themselves as part of a contemporary 'aristocracy', which makes them throw money around like water because they want to show off. They also consider that their families are too important to be forced to work a normal job, like the great unwashed. So yes, that's why poor old Whoopi needs to keep displaying her illiteracy, stupidity and misplaced arrogance on TV, lest her hideous daughter and ugly grandchildren be forced to you know, get off their lazy behinds and earn an honest living for once.

by Anonymousreply 40November 12, 2024 11:44 PM

R36 = New Teacake alias. He has two active ones floating around now.

by Anonymousreply 41November 13, 2024 1:01 AM

Girl be looking rachet...

by Anonymousreply 42November 13, 2024 1:06 AM

Goldberg earns $8 million per year just for The View! Plus all her acting fees over the years.

by Anonymousreply 43November 13, 2024 1:07 AM

Whoopi has every right to work to keep her lazy extended family in luxury. But she’s tone deaf if she thinks she comes across well.

She’s basically saying they do nothing and she makes millions to support them living lavishly.

Normal people cannot relate to your “struggle,” Whoopi. The first thought is “Why don’t you tell them to get off their ass?”

Also, great-grandmother at 69?

You really shouldn’t be lecturing anyone, Whoopster.

by Anonymousreply 44November 13, 2024 1:13 AM

Takin’ what they’re givin’ ‘cause she’s workin’ for a livin’.

by Anonymousreply 45November 13, 2024 1:21 AM

I don’t have a vagina, so I don’t watch this, but from the quotes I see coming out of her from this show, she seems like a complete buffoon. Why do people watch?

by Anonymousreply 46November 13, 2024 1:28 AM

[quote]many famous people work until the very end because they cannot possibly fathom the idea of not being relevant and considered great successes by both the public and their peers

With special side-eyeing to numerous US Senators, as well as our current President and President-elect.

by Anonymousreply 47November 13, 2024 2:21 AM

I'm sure she makes more in one year than I have made in my entire lifetime.

by Anonymousreply 48November 13, 2024 3:04 AM

[quote] I don’t have a vagina, so I don’t watch this

This made me giggle uncontrollably.

by Anonymousreply 49November 13, 2024 3:42 AM

The Woopster is not hurting for money.

by Anonymousreply 50November 13, 2024 3:51 AM

She also takes off work every Friday. That's when Joy moderates and it's more peaceful on Fridays.

by Anonymousreply 51November 13, 2024 3:51 AM

R23 I don’t think Whoopi’s daughter even graduated high school, If I recall she got knocked up when she was 15, 16.

by Anonymousreply 52November 13, 2024 3:51 AM

One of her daughters or granddaughters has a business selling ugly Christmas sweaters. Whoopi was shilling those, one holiday season.

by Anonymousreply 53November 13, 2024 3:57 AM

Bullshit! People with far less money retire to other countries and live well.

by Anonymousreply 54November 13, 2024 3:57 AM

I don't think Whoopi takes her turn doing The View post-show podcast like the rest of the cast.

Maybe they don't pay her enough, and she's hurting. She probably has to leave the studio as soon as The View ends to get to her second job.

by Anonymousreply 55November 13, 2024 4:11 AM

[quote] Wouldn't it have been more prudent and cheaper for Whoopi to pay for her daughter and granddaughter to go to college and make careers for themselves?

I was thinking this too and Whoopi's daughter and granddaughter are brats.

The other day I was reading about Bill Gates' daughter Jennifer who graduated from medical school and is doing her pediatric residency. Jennifer grew up in privilege, but at least she is doing something meaningful to contribute to society.

by Anonymousreply 56November 13, 2024 4:51 AM

[quote] I'm sure she makes more in one year than I have made in my entire lifetime.

So do I

by Anonymousreply 57November 13, 2024 5:00 AM

But would she "leave" leave?

by Anonymousreply 58November 13, 2024 5:00 AM

[quote] Wouldn't it have been more prudent and cheaper for Whoopi to pay for her daughter and granddaughter to get some birth control?

by Anonymousreply 59November 13, 2024 5:01 AM

[quote] I was thinking this too and Whoopi's daughter and granddaughter are brats.

Me too, bitches.

by Anonymousreply 60November 13, 2024 5:03 AM

My fat daughter hasn’t squealed her opinion on this one yet. Instead, she’s braying about the salaries of CNN hosts.

My fat daughter hates CNN, they refused to hire her because she demanded Anderson Cooper’s timeslot and a Lane Bryant credit card without a limit in her contract.

by Anonymousreply 61November 13, 2024 5:31 AM

I am so embarrassed by her I forgot to sign r61!

by Anonymousreply 62November 13, 2024 5:32 AM

She'd have been wiser to have cut it short and say, "This Ozempic ain't gonna pay for itself!"

by Anonymousreply 63November 13, 2024 5:47 AM

Bullshit! People who make a fraction of what Whoopi makes have retired comfortably living out of the US.

by Anonymousreply 64November 13, 2024 5:53 AM

Please someone start a Fund Me that will free us from ever having to see her face again.

by Anonymousreply 65November 13, 2024 5:56 AM

Seriously? If Whoopsie supports neer do well family members, she's some kind of horrible monster welfare queen? Fuck off you racists. No one says a peep about Donald Trump supporting all of his worthless offspring.

They're just as worthless, just be fair about it.

by Anonymousreply 66November 13, 2024 6:19 AM

She could always go pick cotton or learn to tap dance.

by Anonymousreply 67November 13, 2024 6:46 AM

R66 she's acting as if she needs more money; she doesn't. She could live in another country very comfortably and still support her family. In 29016 she said she would move if Trump won. Did she?

I liked Whoopi so much more when I didn’t have to hear her take on everything.

I enjoyed her recent book and the stories of her mom and early life, but when it comes everyday issues she’s out of touch and come across as an entitled brat.

by Anonymousreply 70November 13, 2024 6:08 PM

I think she thinks A-list celebrities have it harder than everyone else. She’s always defending actors for shitty behavior.

by Anonymousreply 71November 13, 2024 6:11 PM

[quote]Fuck off you racists.

by Anonymousreply 73November 13, 2024 11:21 PM

Her voice of Blizzard the reindeer ruined the movie

by Anonymousreply 74November 14, 2024 12:31 AM

Whoopi Dogdoo is full of shit. I just looked her up. She has a net worth of $60 million.

by Anonymousreply 75November 14, 2024 12:33 AM

Gambling addiction?

How can she not be rich as fuck after being on screens for 40 years?

by Anonymousreply 76November 14, 2024 12:45 AM

She's still an annoying multimillionaire but I'm sure it is the case that shes supporting members of her extended family. A lot of celebrities do. Celebrities have to pay their agents ten percent, plus everyone else on their team, and plus taxes. After all that, they'll be lucky to see half their salary they made on a movie.

by Anonymousreply 77November 17, 2024 2:37 PM

Let's start a Go Fund Me so she can leave.

by Anonymousreply 78November 17, 2024 2:46 PM

I like Whoopi so I've intentionally never watched her on the view. Familiarity breeds contempt.

by Anonymousreply 79November 17, 2024 3:31 PM

I love that Moogan MY FATHER McCain said some of you people need to start interacting with people who make less than 100000 a year. Like Moogan EVER has and news flash, 100K a year in NYC is the poverty level.

by Anonymousreply 80November 17, 2024 4:40 PM

You’re incorrect r80. My fat daughter interacts all the time with people making less than $100,000 a year, primarily the fast food workers she abuses (“I AM JOHN MCCAIN’S DAUGHTER AND I WANT ANOTHER PATTY FOR FREE!”)

My fat daughter has abused so many McDonalds workers in New York City that she’s been banned from locations in 4 of the 5 New York City boroughs. She now has to travel to Staten Island or New Jersey for her fix.

by Anonymousreply 81November 17, 2024 4:59 PM

Her hairstyle looks like dog shit

by Anonymousreply 82November 17, 2024 5:02 PM

I recall that Robert Mitchum said he had to work until his dying days because his business manager had absconded with most of his $$. That was apparently a recurring theme in 1950-1970, so many classic stars getting ripped off. They should have invested early in Beverly Hills property, that's what allowed Greta Garbo to travel the world in the half-century after she retired from films. She was notoriously cheap, though, despite hanging with the stars in Klosters, Switzerland. (Where, by the way, her long-time formerly close friend and consultant Salka Viertal was living in poverty.)

by Anonymousreply 83November 17, 2024 5:22 PM

Ungrateful b*tch. How about giving her spot to someone who wants to be there.

by Anonymousreply 84November 17, 2024 5:43 PM

STFU, Whoopi!

by Anonymousreply 85November 17, 2024 5:47 PM

[quote]r83 = (Where, by the way, her long-time formerly close friend and consultant Salka Viertal was living in poverty.)

How exactly does one live in poverty in Switzerland?

by Anonymousreply 86November 17, 2024 5:50 PM

r86 Her son Peter lived there. He was a screenwriter and novelist, but I don't think he made a large amount of $. Unlike his close friend Irwin Shaw, who also lived in Klosters and made bank with several of his books, plus the TV version of 'Rich Man, Poor Man'. I guess you could hang out in Klosters in those days without a large amount of $, as long as you were rich/famous/cool enough to hang with The Crowd of movie stars and European 'nobility' and rich businessmen.

There's a really good gossipy biography about Shaw, by Michael Shnayerson.

by Anonymousreply 87November 17, 2024 6:29 PM

I love Whoopi, but I really hate when well-paid celebrities say stuff like this.

by Anonymousreply 88November 17, 2024 9:23 PM

She is a beacon to pot enthusiasts everywhere

by Anonymousreply 89November 17, 2024 9:30 PM

R88 I have to agree.

They're tone deaf -- even if she is supporting a zillion family members.

I'm out of work and have no prospects. I have a small 'inheritance' left by an uncle that I'm drawing on so I don't go insane.

I feel like a blessed millionaire because I have this tiny cushion.

by Anonymousreply 90November 18, 2024 12:29 AM

She’s not supporting an elderly mother or a crippled child.

She’s supporting her lazy spawn and their spawn and their spawn. Who expect to live in luxury because…Whoopi.

Whoopi always seemed grounded as far as celebrities go, even in her rarified air, but this is absolutely clueless.

She actually seems gross. Especially how she describes “supporting” them as her duty.

by Anonymousreply 91November 18, 2024 12:36 AM

Google is not our friend. Those net worth sites are wayyyy off. Says I’m worth $750,000. Alas, I’m not. Fake news. Googling is not research.

by Anonymousreply 92November 18, 2024 12:40 AM

R77- actors and athletes only pocket about 30% of their salary after taxes, commissions, etc. People don’t get that.

by Anonymousreply 93November 18, 2024 12:46 AM

Maybe less for athletes. I think they have to pay taxes in every state they play in. And they pay a business manager 5% to sort that out.

by Anonymousreply 94November 18, 2024 12:48 AM

r22, actually, it's West Orange, not Montclair.

"Whoopi paid $2.8 million for her current Georgian Colonial-style residence in West Orange’s gated Llewellyn Park neighborhood, per multiple outlets. The home was originally built in the 1920s and has eight bedrooms within its 9,486 square feet and 23 rooms in total, per Heavy."

Llewellyn Park is one of the oldest planned communities in the U.S. The houses aren't extremely expensive for the size, but property taxes are totally insane. She probably pays close to $100,000 in property taxes plus there may be an HOA too. Honestly, she'd be better off living in Montclair. It's a much nicer town than any of the Oranges.

However, Whoopie is so freaking trashy and out of touch. She should have kicked her 50 year old daughter's butt to get a real job instead of supporting her and her crotch fruit.
