Debra Winger's youngest son in Terms of Endearment, dead at the age of 50.
wow. pretty young. there are really a lot of younger deaths these days.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 11, 2024 12:23 AM |
It sounds like he went on to success away from Hollywood. Better than most child stars.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 11, 2024 12:27 AM |
I LOVE that too melodramatic, just too much "Terms of Endearment."
And Fox was so cute.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 11, 2024 12:30 AM |
One of the greatest names in show biz history. RIP.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 11, 2024 12:31 AM |
Was he related to Huckleberry Hound?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 11, 2024 1:00 AM |
OP we will need you to uncover the cause of death, since you are the one who shared this news.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 11, 2024 1:04 AM |
I learned of his death in the death notices of the Sunday NYT. That's all I got, R7.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 11, 2024 1:13 AM |
r8 Thank you - we will look for an update from you soon once COD has been determined.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 11, 2024 1:19 AM |
Did they give him a shot?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 11, 2024 1:22 AM |
An adult pic of Troy Bishop, who played the oldest son.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 11, 2024 1:22 AM |
What a darling child he was. Glad he had a life of success and love.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 11, 2024 1:23 AM |
R7 is Supervisor Karen of the thread. You better listen to her, OP, and get on it right away.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 11, 2024 1:23 AM |
Dying at age 50 is so sad. My first guess is it was cancer related.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 11, 2024 1:31 AM |
[quote] My first guess is it was cancer related.
Just like his mother.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 11, 2024 1:33 AM |
He's hot R11.
How old is he?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 11, 2024 1:34 AM |
Life can be so funny and strange at times. Imagine someone telling you 40 years ago that the kid from this movie would die before Shirley MacLaine, who is now 90?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 11, 2024 1:39 AM |
Damn it! I wanted the other punk kid dead since 1983.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 11, 2024 1:39 AM |
He's 52 now, R16. That pic appears to be from '08.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 11, 2024 1:40 AM |
I can recommend the scene linked in R1 for anyone who might need a good cry in the aftermath of this week's news.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 11, 2024 1:42 AM |
Winger was amazing in this film! To my mind one of the best cinematic performances ever...MARY, I KNOW!!!
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 11, 2024 1:48 AM |
Agree, r21.
Not a single false or forced note from Winger and I'm taking into account the outlandish soap opera that is TOE, and that it required just the right touch of melodramatic attitude from Winger to capture Emma.
Love McClain, too.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 11, 2024 1:56 AM |
I was friendly with Huck when we were both undergrads at NYU; he had a crush on a female friend of mine. They were both biology majors and both seemed destined for great things. Now he's dead, and she's lost her medical license and is suffering from schizophrenia. Crapsack world.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 11, 2024 2:07 AM |
I think about that hospital scene probably once a week.
I was mean to my mom as most kids are when they are trying to separate from their parents. My mom died unexpectedly when I was 14 so we never got past that phase.
I would like to think she was as wise as Winger’s character about these things.
My own kid is going through a real asshole phase. It’s depressing and some days makes me sad, but I get it and I know the alternative is some clingy kid who never moves out of my basement.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 11, 2024 2:27 AM |
I remember him from the movie “Konrad” where he played a genetically engineered child who gets misdelivered to DL fave Polly Holliday.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 11, 2024 2:31 AM |
The older they get the cuter they aint.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 11, 2024 2:34 AM |
R25. "Kiss my grits, Konrad!"
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 11, 2024 2:35 AM |
Had me scared there for a moment.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 11, 2024 2:53 AM |
Why do the Under-45s never want their cause of death to be reported?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 11, 2024 3:13 AM |
[quote]Love McClain, too.
Oh, dear.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 11, 2024 3:31 AM |
Susan Dey said she doesn't remember him.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 11, 2024 5:43 AM |
When Debra was on The View ages ago, she said that if people knew what was said to that kid to get him to cry, they'd never watch the movie again.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 15, 2024 1:37 AM |
^ That Susan Dey's a heartless bitch?!
by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 15, 2024 1:41 AM |
Any word on how his siblings Strawberry, Boysenberry and Dingleberry are coping?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 15, 2024 1:52 AM |
To think all the well known actors in Terms are still alive, MacLaine, Winger, Nicholson, Daniels, DeVito. Even Marion Ross from the sequel is in her 90s. And the youngest cast member is the first to go. Crazy.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 15, 2024 1:58 AM |
That scene with Huck saying goodbye to his mom had me crying my eyes out. In a theatre. At a matinee. That little boy broke my heart. I tried to pull myself together, wiped my face with a napkin, walked out past the crowd waiting to go in, thinking I had it together. I got to my car and when I looked in the mirror I had pieces of popcorn stuck to my face with butter and tears.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 15, 2024 1:59 AM |
[quote]When Debra was on The View ages ago, she said that if people knew what was said to that kid to get him to cry, they'd never watch the movie again.
I had to do it. It was my big scene. I told the kid his dog was dead.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 15, 2024 2:03 AM |
R37. Serves you right, Fatty! Practice some self control...
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 15, 2024 2:05 AM |
Wow - this makes me really fucking sad.
He gave one of those rare child actor performances that felt pure and guileless. And yes, the hospital goodbye scene belongs in the tearjerker hall of fame.
RIP.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 15, 2024 2:18 AM |
"I think that went really well, don't you?"
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 15, 2024 2:22 AM |
I wonder if he voted early
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 15, 2024 2:29 AM |
What was the cause of death?
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 15, 2024 2:30 AM |
Why would anyone cry at Winger's death scene? It was Deborah Winger, after all.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 15, 2024 3:19 AM |
R44. It's not her death that you cry at, you ghoul! It's Teddy knowing he is never going to see his mommy again. And his little nod to her as he slips out.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 15, 2024 3:47 AM |
The scene with the older son was more memorable, to me. Older son was saying mean things to Debra Winger's character: she couldn't keep a man, etc. She told him: don't ever feel bad for what you're saying to me right now.
[quote] My own kid is going through a real asshole phase.
Why not have the same talk that Debra Winger had with the older son? I hope you live a long life, but you could drop dead. My father pretty much dropped dead, unexpectedly, when I was pretty young (older than 18). Luckily, he and I were on good terms at the time.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | November 15, 2024 3:56 AM |
yeah it was that nod. omg. It went good mommy.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | November 15, 2024 3:57 AM |
The relationship between mother & the older son Tommy is the one that really brings me to tears.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 15, 2024 4:07 AM |
His brother's name is "Bear."
Bear Fox. LOL
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 15, 2024 4:15 AM |
I have never known a person named Huckleberry nor Huck. Am I missing out?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | November 15, 2024 4:16 AM |
[Quote] I think about that hospital scene probably once a week.
Jesus Christ, I saw it back in the 80s and have never thought of it for one second after, until it was mentioned in this thread.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | November 15, 2024 4:24 AM |
Will there be an open casket? That will give Debra Winger an opportunity to fart in his face.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 15, 2024 4:26 AM |
Yet Shirley and Nicholson live on.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 15, 2024 4:34 AM |
OP/r8 We would like an update on COD, please.
Thank you for your continued cooperation.

Lucille Ball saw Terms and wound up falling asleep during it,
by Anonymous | reply 55 | November 15, 2024 10:03 PM |
They wanted Lucy to play the younger son but Gary talked her out of it.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | November 15, 2024 10:05 PM |
Now I'm imagining a TV version with Lucille Ball and Lucie Arnez.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | November 15, 2024 10:07 PM |
With Kirby Furlong as the older son, I hope.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | November 15, 2024 10:49 PM |
R54, I’m no alienist, but if I’m looking for a COD, I would want to sit down with Tommy. That sibling relationship appeared quite troubled.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | November 15, 2024 10:55 PM |
Why didn't the dad raise the kids in the end?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | November 15, 2024 11:34 PM |
Flap was never there for Emma and the kids. He was always out chasing pussy.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | November 15, 2024 11:36 PM |
In the novel Flap relinquishes custody to their grandmother. He isn't in the sequel, "The Evening Star," where all three kids are deeply troubled, but I think he is mentioned in passing.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | November 15, 2024 11:44 PM |
Oh, my darling,
Oh, my darling
Oh, my darling, Clementine
by Anonymous | reply 63 | November 15, 2024 11:46 PM |
I’ve never tasted a huckleberry. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | November 15, 2024 11:57 PM |
WTF kind of name is Flap, even for a fictional character.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | November 16, 2024 2:21 AM |
The kind like "Huckleberry," I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | November 16, 2024 2:25 AM |
It's an old timey nickname for Philip.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | November 16, 2024 2:42 AM |
Thanks, R67. "Flap" just sounds unsavory.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | November 16, 2024 3:21 AM |
Wonder how many times The Winger called him Dingleberry on set.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | November 16, 2024 3:30 AM |
[quote]It's not her death that you cry at, you ghoul! It's Teddy knowing he is never going to see his mommy again. And his little nod to her as he slips out.
No, simpleton R45. Winger dying is the highlight of the film. Because she died. No tears, just immense satisfaction.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | November 16, 2024 3:35 AM |
I’m your huckleberry.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | November 16, 2024 5:34 AM |
R70. As it will be when you shuffle off this mortal coil. No tears, just relief and extreme celebration.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | November 16, 2024 9:57 AM |
Very sad indeed and the hospital scene with the kids is a 5 tissue tearjerker, though after watching my own mother slowly die, it's ridiculous that she's making these long-winded speeches when she'd actually be gasping for air, barely able to choke out a couple of words. But whatever the case, very sad about this young man and it's nice to hear about a kid actor that went on to live a purposeful life and not hang around the edges of celebrity/hollywood trying to recreate previous glories.
I know Shirley is widely mocked on DL (for good reasons), but I also thought the "Give Her The Shot" scene was also a real tearjerker too
