I no longer believe any word that comes out of JoScar's mouth.
I haven't watched MJ since ten minutes on Wednesday morning. I had to hurl.
When Joe spends a significant time on religious topics and continuously tries to vindicate the Southern Baptists and the Evangelicals from their secular crimes, I GET ASS CRAMPS.
[The medical term for anal cramps is proctalgia fugax, which is a functional anorectal disorder that causes severe rectal pain in episodes]
Joe is a phony with all the talk about his granny and the PTL Club but he is worse.
If Anne Hathaway can convert to America's original protestant faith, and TRUE CHRISTIAN faith, in support of her gay brother, then Joe needs to convert. All this bullshit about his dad's funeral and bl;a bla bla that he is firm to the ORIGINAL Baptist Faith. Proctalgia fugax ALERT!
The Plantationn Baptist Church lost its soul when it criminalized abortion in the 70s. The Baptists were fine with being pro choice as they did not judge the sinner, they PRAYED for the sinner, and let Jesus judge, but the move to political power in subjugating women under the guise of dogma was a bit far-fetched. Now you can understand that Baptists created the Black church so slaves WOULD NOT KILL THEIR MASTERS.
Pity, that.

I have a real problem with the people who were singing Kamala's praises on the morning of the 5th and then ripping her and the party on the 6th. Had she won those people would never, ever, had said one negative thing about her for the next few weeks. Once sworn in, it would have been open season of course.
I only respect the people making intelligent analysis of what may have gone wrong as I do get the sense that, had she won, they would have said she pulled it off in spite of *insert weakness in campaign* and provided an honest assessment of the campaign and how we could improve for 2028.
Needless to say, Joe makes my skin crawl and I don't trust that he is going to remain never Trump. There are a few personalities who were never Trump because they thought 2016 was a fluke. I can see them jumping skip now, sane washing him, and become raging Rs again because 'unity.'

I'm finding I'm unable to watch MSNBC right now (or in the foreseeable future). Between the analyses of what went wrong, what the Dems should do next, and what Dump actually is doing, it's all dangerously depressing. I'll keep track of things through this thread. Thanks, OP.

So the Mayor of Dearborn Michigan was just on. When asked why the people of his city went for Trump knowing that he plans another Muslim ban, he dodged the question and blamed Democrats not paying enough attention to them. Well good luck with that when Trump decided to turn on them. He has nothing to lose.

I know what you mean, but some of the best honest insightful stuff is actually the weekend crew Samone, Micheal Steele, Alicia Menendez. They had on some guy who's expected to have some roll in Trump admin. He was super extreme pissing off the two women by saying child care is a social problem not something the government should be paying people to take time off work. If prices go up because of tariffs, people need to get a better job. Micheal Steele pointed out we need to see this to know what we are up against, we need to understand how they think. So even something like child care to us has a whole different meaning to them.

Fuck them. Start not giving a shit like Republicans do and stop trying to make everyone happy. They don’t and they win. And you may just inspire your base to actually turn out to vote.

As someone who lives in the same county as Salinas, CA (America's Salad Bowl), if Trump's mass deportations go into effect, people will become very very unhappy with the prices & availability of their produce.

R20
And the problem will still be that people never quite understand cause and effect.
They won't blame Republicans or Trump's actions; somehow it will become the fault of Democrats. That's how we got here. Anyone with half a brain knew how all this worked, hence our high opinion of the nation's intelligence.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 11, 2024 2:11 AM |
R20 is correct. The country has no clue how much produce comes from the central part of CA which is huge swaths of land where illegal immigrants had pick fruit and other things that machines cannot do for less than minimum wage. All under the table, it's an open secret.
Where are they going to get millions to replaces them working in the hot desert sun doing back breaking work for minimum pay? Do you really think Gen Z is up to the task? No? Then get ready for prices to triple or quadruple before it's even worth doing the job by Americans used to decent pay.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 11, 2024 2:12 AM |
R20 He's gonna fuck up the economy Biden left him. Just wait. And the people who voted for him will have no one to blame but themselves when prices shoot up as his round 'em up and deport scheme gets underway. As 30% or 40% price increases at the supermarket start eating into their earnings, hating Mexicans and Central Americans will seem trivial. Could have kept things stable with a Harris administration, but no, that was unthinkable and "she didn't explain her policies enough." GTFOH.

Yep, if they deport all the low wage labor, prices of produce from CA which supplies about 30% or more to the rest of the country are going to skyrocket. Dump will blame Newsom. Importing to compensate wont be cheap either as Trump will throw us into a tariff war.

But they sure seem to know it all in their self appointed expert minds.

Here's a thought. - Newsom seems to give a shit and speaks the truth out loud and in public. When Trump [bold]does[/bold] trash Newsom, Newsom needs to be as ballsy and loud as he can be and whenever and wherever he can, blame Trump and explain exactly why. In a short concise message - Trump's policies did this and here's why you're suffering. Newsom seems to get media coverage. Learn from him.
Maybe hammering them with a simple explanation even the most ignorant can understand will get through. Hammer them.
Newsom (and some others) have no fucks left to give so the Democrats should try it.
There is some question as to how the media would or wouldn't report it. My point, I guess, would be for Dems to try being as angry and repetitive as the republicans.

Even before the election my biggest problem with MSNBC and even CNN was they treated their viewers like they were Fox News viewers and MAGA supporters. Every show seemed like an attempt to convince us that Trump was a bad man and not to vote for him. We already knew that and were never going to vote for him. I am not sure what else they could have done, I don't work in entertainment or news, but what they were doing didn't work. I haven't watch any news since the election and will probably be cancelling my cable before the end of the year. MSNBC is dead to me.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | November 19, 2024 12:32 AM |
Had MSNBC and CNN tried the 'fair and balanced' approach, but lean Trump with more Trump supporters featured, which was the Fox news method, these threads would have been filled with criticism over attempting to normalize a candidate who wasn't normal at all. They couldn't do anything else to try to influence the election, it came down to the votes of the American electorate, who chose a delusional wannabe dictator and his cult-like political party to control all three branches of the government.
Don't count MSNBC out. Once the orange asshole takes office, starts fucking up which is pretty much a guarantee and going after outlets that are critical of him as 'fake news,' ratings will recover.

My fear is that, once Dump gets in, he will try to remove MSNBC and anything else he considers "opposition media" by pulling their broadcast licenses. Hopefully, the networks are already taking steps to battle back against that.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | November 19, 2024 5:52 AM |
I'ts not just Morning Joe, someone is going on at MSNBC. Just saw Stephani Ruhle give some last minute speech at the end about how she's going to focus more on the financial aspects of the coming administration, this is what the people voted for, bla, bla, bla.
I get the feeling that the suites at MSNBC have decided to turn to the right like CNN did about a year ago in a sad attempt to keep their ratings up. It's not going to work. People turned to MSNBC as an alternative to Fox, not to hear a Fox Light version of the new.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | November 19, 2024 7:25 AM |
R130 You're right, probably 90% of the viewers of MSNBC's programming already know that Trump is a sack of shit and unfit to be President. But their almost singular focus on driving that narrative is not without a purpose. I think they changed more than a few minds, provided almost daily new reasons that everyone should consider him a real danger, and motivated believers to do something about it.
It's a game of numbers, and Fox's brand of disinformation and propaganda is very effective. They relied on the lazy gullibility and tribalism of Americans with a taste for authoritarianism.
MSNBC's viewership will be back, as the Trump living nightmare starts to deliver all that it has promised. It's like that line from I, Claudius - Let all the poisons that lurk in the mud, hatch out. Or whatever.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | November 19, 2024 10:23 AM |
Fox and Friends are celebrating their demise. No one on the right has any love for MSNBC. The Joe and Mika thing just gave them tons of talking points about how the left is two faced lairs etc. They all talk about how Mika was just on the view in tears a week ago about Trump being Hitler, now she went to Mar-a-Lago.
That Morning Joe meets Trump stunt was a terrible decision. I dont know if it was Joe or the network management but whoever it was should be fired. The burned their core audience in a spectacular way. No back tracking is going to fix this and only an idiot would think kissing the ring would bring in new viewers from the right who despise MSNBC.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | November 19, 2024 10:30 AM |

I didn’t interpret Ruhle’s comment that way, r137. For a few months, she’s devoted the middle segment of her show to the economy and how Trump’s policies will impact the economy , usually having 2 correspondents from Bloomberg or CNBC to discuss that. It is usually the most vibrant part of the show-she loves discussing the economy.
I get the impression that instead of spending the majority of her show covering his antics, she is going to spend more time talking about the policies Trump is going to enact and how they impact people.

Trump's popular vote victory is the 6th smallest margin in history. For reference, Biden won in 2020 with over 81 million.

Basically what it means is NBC is selling off the news potion of it's content MSNBC in an attempt to avoid Trump from targeting them with lawsuits and other nefarious attacks. They will go back to just being an entertainment network where most of their money is made. That way, if Trump attempts to take down news shows who say anything bad about him, he wont kill the whole network.
It's similar to people who people who buy 5 rental properties and creating a separate LLC for each one. It's kind of a bad sign that big companies expect Trump admin to really throw sand in the gears of actual news broadcasts or even trying to turn them into a form of state TV.

But because he is so obviously unfit, an inveterate liar, holds extreme views that defy reason and decency, is an aging criminal, and all-around rotten human being, he should be expected to go down in a landslide. In that respect, his win is a mandate, signaling that the country has lost its way.

R218 Some at least make gestures at it. Biden's win wasn't negligible but he made the point he was governing for all, and actually did a fair amount for people in red states. Trump doesn't even pretend, he threatens to penalize regions for lack of support. Rachel last night talking about the press' reaction to another Trump term, possibly having Joe & Mika in the back of her mind re their cowering visit to Mar-a-Lago:
"The press - turning out to be, yes, weak-kneed and lily-livered as you might fear in some quarters, but also defiant and professional and aggressive and creative in other quarters."

by Anonymous | reply 239 | December 2, 2024 1:49 AM |
I'm also pissed at Joe Walsh. He's one of those that, rather than see Trump disqualified from the race earlier this year, (when Colorado challenged the Supreme Court decision), thought it was best we "beat him at the ballot box!"
Look how well that turned out!
Perhaps we didn't vote hard enough?
by Anonymous | reply 240 | December 2, 2024 2:30 AM |
And look how trying to get Trump constitutionally disqualified worked out. And it’s also worth noting the SCOTUS decision was unanimous.
by Anonymous | reply 241 | December 2, 2024 2:49 AM |
And with Trump getting a minimum of 2 more SCOTUS appointments, the Constitution is worth shit for the very very long indefinite future.

Comcast spinning off MSNBC and Elon wants to purchase it. Just like X he will turn it into another pile of hot steamy shit and propaganda. Sadly, as we have learned with Twitter, it does not matter if it loses money, his purpose to to manipulate the public by using social media to push his Trumpian bullshit.
by Anonymous | reply 243 | December 2, 2024 8:19 AM |
The voluntary attrition following a Musk takeover would immediately deplete the network of talent and value, wiping out most of the viewership, except perhaps what remains for Joe & Mika.

These two really just dont get it.

by Anonymous | reply 281 | December 5, 2024 11:46 AM |
I wish they would fire them, keep the show with the other guests. But I suspect Joe has some unbreakable contract that if he goes, so does the show. I say that because I believe he was the one who came to MSNBC and pitched the show, he was not just a guy they hired to fill that spot. He probably owns part of it.

by Anonymous | reply 288 | December 5, 2024 8:35 PM |
They will not go quietly. Mika soiled her fathers reputation and they both destroyed their own. They broke the trust of their audience on both sides. This is not recoverable especially without an apology and some actual understanding of what they did. Doubling down only works for Dump.
by Anonymous | reply 289 | December 5, 2024 9:37 PM |
I predict they will eventually be forced to leave MSNBC, they will attempt to start their one thing after pitching it to Fox who will reject them. They will spend the final years of their life trying to convince America they did the right thing. Pulling in connections. But just like Tucker Carson, they will quickly become irrelevant. I hope they spend their entire fortune with this failed attempt.
Oh well, at least they can say they never apologized.
by Anonymous | reply 290 | December 5, 2024 9:38 PM |
What do either of them actually contribute? Joe attempts to relate everything to the experiences of his distant and brief political career, offset by faux outrage rants. Mika parrots whatever the prevailing position is they've decided to adopt. In essence, the show is about what the guests bring. And the banter. They've got a tired but cushy perch, and will try to defend it at any cost. Too bad for them, the audience ain't buying it anymore.

No, not when he has a meme crypto token of his own, a social media site, and is hawking a new line of cologne, to go with the NFT's, trading cards, bibles, footwear, and watches.
