What’s life like outside the blue bubble?

I don’t know anyone who supports Trump. All my friends, colleagues, professional contacts across the nation—Harris voters all. While voting records show that some people in the area voted for Trump, there were no Trump signs in my Boston neighborhood. I’m curious to know from my fellow DLers what it’s like to live otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 73November 13, 2024 11:36 AM

You are a pandering idiot

by Anonymousreply 1November 10, 2024 11:56 AM

It's like living in a mental institution. I don't live there now but I used to live in violently antigay areas where anytime gay rights advanced anywhere some triggered bigot would physically attack me in a rage. This happened multiple times, and never for anything I did, always because some gay somewhere won a court case so they just wanted to hurt a gay.

by Anonymousreply 2November 10, 2024 11:58 AM

Interestingly, it was usually a woman.

by Anonymousreply 3November 10, 2024 11:59 AM

Now that Trump's been elected, permission has been given to the assholes here in Deplorable Haven to do whatever the fuck they want. Again. Gunshots already this morning (7 AM); a loud air boat blowing back and forth behind my place (I live next to a swamp). Yesterday, a neighbor's deadbeat unemployed 30-year-old who'd moved back in with Mommy (with his gf) sold his race car, but not before he'd made the neighborhood sound like a NASCAR race track. It was so loud another of my white trash neighbors actually bitched to me about it.

It has begun. A Trump presidency means a free-for-all for every white boy with a white trash heritage. And all the other MAGA white men as well.

Me? I'm busy trying to get the paperwork I need to emigrate. Slowly but surely.

by Anonymousreply 4November 10, 2024 12:51 PM

R4, what you've described is exactly what scares me the most, along with the unraveling of our democracy.

by Anonymousreply 5November 10, 2024 1:17 PM

That's terrible R2. Where was it?

Where to R4?

by Anonymousreply 6November 10, 2024 1:25 PM

OP is likely a troll but I live in philly and work in NYC and I agree. I see rarely people who would vote for trump. there are still harris signs up in windows in my neighborhood. NPR bumperstickers instead of NRA. I travel for work and do go to places outside of the northeast corridor, sometimes I'm shocked, others not. i'm curious though

by Anonymousreply 7November 10, 2024 1:41 PM

What's weird is I expected gloating or at least joviality. They're all the same miserable fucks

by Anonymousreply 8November 10, 2024 1:43 PM

This is an obvious Greg post.

by Anonymousreply 9November 10, 2024 1:44 PM

^^^^

Greg is still in South Dakota.

by Anonymousreply 10November 10, 2024 3:10 PM

R7, I’ve seen Trump signs up all over Philly.

by Anonymousreply 11November 10, 2024 3:14 PM

Since the majority of Americans voted for Trump, you’re either lying or completely ignorant, OP.

by Anonymousreply 12November 10, 2024 3:15 PM

What’s life like outside the blue bubble?

Real.

by Anonymousreply 13November 10, 2024 4:17 PM

I'm in rural NC. I'm surrounded by MAGA and knew he would take this state. What exactly do you want to know?

by Anonymousreply 14November 10, 2024 4:20 PM

I've definitely been seeing more hostile looks even in my own neighborhood and at the grocery store this past week. It's 2016 Part II.

Colorado is beautiful, but fuck these dumb ass rednecks in Weld County. Life is too short to put up with this bullshit all over again.

by Anonymousreply 15November 10, 2024 4:22 PM

I’m neither a troll nor Greg. I just want to know what it’s like to be around Trump voters. I don’t know any.

by Anonymousreply 16November 10, 2024 4:33 PM

"I’ve seen Trump signs up all over Philly."

Especially in Northeast Philly. The further north you go on Roosevelt Boulevard, the more MAGAt it becomes.

And Lower Bucks County, i.e. Bensalem, Morrisville, Levittown, Bristol, etc. is MAGAt central, which is why Trump and the Republicans carried Bucks County for the first time in years.

And while we're on the subject of Pennsylvania, all I have been hearing for the past few election cycles was Pennsylvanians disgruntled by the shipment of American manufacturing jobs overseas. So why the hell did they just vote for the guy who made billions of dollars for himself outsourcing jobs overseas?

by Anonymousreply 17November 10, 2024 4:39 PM

I also see them in South Philly. The Italians there are all in.

by Anonymousreply 18November 10, 2024 4:41 PM
What’s life like outside the blue bubble?

Fine.

I'm in a reliably blue state that nearly flipped. My middle to upper middle class town will have voted for Trump. The town is cute, clean, safe. Strong police presence. No crime, no homelessness etc. And I can't imagine it's large Hispanic population voting for Harris.

The shithole cities in my county and neighboring country voted Dem. They always do.

by Anonymousreply 19November 10, 2024 5:03 PM

I live in Trumplandia in Western PA, not too far from the Trump assassination attempt in Butler, PA. I actually see fewer Trump signs here than I did in 2016 or 2020. Trump obviously won here but Kamala actually received more total votes in my county than Biden did

by Anonymousreply 20November 10, 2024 5:13 PM

R8: That's the thing. Just like 2016, they're sore winners. They have no joy in their worthless lives. Sociopaths, the lot of them.

R13: It's the other way round, dear. Real life is in the cities and major metropolitan areas. Rural and exurban living is fake as a 3 dollar bill. The world is not all white people on wide open land, with no POC for miles. Such a thing is a subsidized fantasy.

by Anonymousreply 21November 10, 2024 5:15 PM

OP claims he does not know any magafucks.

Maybe OP, some just hate you in secret. Unless you have a polygraph portable you carry around for interrogations.

by Anonymousreply 22November 10, 2024 5:19 PM
It's the other way round, dear. Real life is in the cities and major metropolitan areas. Rural and exurban living is fake as a 3 dollar bill. The world is not all white people on wide open land, with no POC for miles. Such a thing is a subsidized fantasy.

You know very little about American cities.

Just look at neighborhoods in NYC. Tribeca, the black population is 2.2%. Upper East Side: 4,3%. West Village 2%.

My small rural town is more diverse.

by Anonymousreply 23November 10, 2024 5:28 PM

So is mine r23. The majority of Americans don't live in large cities and never will. That's just a fact of life.

by Anonymousreply 24November 10, 2024 5:48 PM
Real life is in the cities and major metropolitan areas.

I can only laugh at the cluelessness of that statement.

by Anonymousreply 25November 10, 2024 5:52 PM

The giant white pickup trucks are following me even more closely.

by Anonymousreply 26November 10, 2024 6:01 PM

Seems like life IN the blue bubble can be pretty brutish and short. RIP to the victims of this man who was everything he railed against. The poor kids, ugh.

Suburbia is unsustainable, yet we continue to delude ourselves that the American dream is to live in a single-family house with a yard and white picket fence. Between 2000 and 2020, urban land area in the US grew by 14%. As of April 2020, over 86% of Americans lived in metropolitan areas, which includes counties that are adjacent to or include major cities with populations of 50,000 or more. That's an all-time high.

Suburbanites and bridge-and-tunnel commuters may turn their noses up at "city people," but economic centers are the lifeblood of the American economy. Whether in a townhouse, condo, or McMansion, the vast majority of Americans live in big city-centric economies.

by Anonymousreply 32November 10, 2024 6:42 PM

Right, suburbia was great i suppose for a pandemic, but honestly, it’s the worst thing ever otherwise

by Anonymousreply 33November 10, 2024 6:48 PM

Of course MAGA’s lie to your face to protect their situation.

by Anonymousreply 34November 10, 2024 7:07 PM

Are the giant white pickup trucks following you now? Are they in the room with us?

by Anonymousreply 35November 10, 2024 7:14 PM

I moved from a red bubble in Florida to a blue bubble in Massachusetts.

You all can argue all you want about what's real and what isn't, but when the shitty effects of this nightmarish election spreads, I'll still be a lot happier in my blue bubble than I ever was in my red bubble. I'll probably also be a lot better off and a lot safer.

Some of the effects are bound to filter down to me somehow, but I'm a hell of a lot better off here. And I'm really tired of trying to understand the economic anxieties and ignorance of the other side, and the effects of Republican propaganda. I just want to eke out some sort of a life amidst the coming dystopia.

If that makes me unrealistic, and somehow less because I don 't recognize and live amongst real America, I am fine with that.

by Anonymousreply 36November 10, 2024 7:29 PM

I don’t know any MAGAs personally and I scrupulously avoid letting my sentiments about them be known. I’m surrounded by them as neighbors and that’s bad enough. My county and state went Democrat in the presidential race but you wouldn’t know it if you looked only at the yard signs, bumper stickers, and attitudes.

by Anonymousreply 37November 10, 2024 7:31 PM

I live in San Diego OP. I know lots of Trump supporters. Most of SD voted Harris but in my industry there are quite a bit of republicans. Some didn’t vote for him because he started talking to fascist. I’m also former military.

by Anonymousreply 38November 10, 2024 7:40 PM

Mostly we live underground, feeding on raw tubers and in fear of the light.

On the other hand, free cable

by Anonymousreply 40November 10, 2024 8:19 PM

I only wish I had the $ to move to Mass., R36.

OTOH, if I had that kind of $, I'd live in California.

by Anonymousreply 41November 10, 2024 9:00 PM

R27 A sneaky Hobbes quote. I like it.

by Anonymousreply 42November 10, 2024 9:03 PM

R41

We were very fortunate to have the means to move from Florida to Massachusetts. Very fortunate.

We were both originally from the northeast - Florida was a detour - and since we trusted that if and when the shit hit the fan, our best bet would be Massachusetts, that's what we did.

by Anonymousreply 43November 10, 2024 10:06 PM

I went to a very conservative private Christian school and then changed course and went to very liberal public universities for undergraduate and graduate degrees in a different state. Even after the winning landslide, the conservatives are more in a bubble than we are. They think God will protect them no matter what or who they vote for.

by Anonymousreply 44November 10, 2024 10:11 PM

Dumbasses. God doesn't give a shit

by Anonymousreply 45November 10, 2024 11:31 PM

I live in California. Since I don’t live in SoCal or the Bay Area, I live in Trumptucky.

by Anonymousreply 46November 10, 2024 11:45 PM

BTW, just now (8:30PM EST), two more gunshots.

And I've called the sheriff's department about gunshots here before, but they won't come out here. They're afraid [italic]they[/italic] might get shot.

by Anonymousreply 47November 11, 2024 1:40 AM

It’s funny, because so many on here when we spoke on our anecdotal evidence, obviously it’s not science but we were always called trolls. I remember on one thread regarding Obama scolding black men who said they aren’t voting. I simply made a joke that they might vote Trump. I was accused of being a troll, not really black, and so on.

by Anonymousreply 48November 11, 2024 1:43 AM

R48: What the fuck does this have to do with living in civilized blue states?

by Anonymousreply 49November 11, 2024 1:49 AM

The red bubbles are far more airtight than the blue bubbles.

That's why they attacked the Capitol last time, those people couldn't believe Biden had won because they were utterly surrounded by fellow Trumpoids and couldn't conceive of Biden having won the election without cheating.

(Also, just to repeat this for the umpteenth time, FBI statistics show violent crime is higher in Republican voting areas than Democratic voting areas, including the major cities.)

by Anonymousreply 50November 11, 2024 1:51 AM

R49 First of all I live in California. This entire conversation is what this thread is about. I still expected her to win however. And my crazy ass was saying my clairvoyance predicted her winning lol.

by Anonymousreply 56November 11, 2024 4:41 AM

R55 There are no housing projects in any of those neighborhoods you dumb troll. Perhaps maybe on the upper east side but in and around 110th street, many would consider that the start of Spanish Harlem.

by Anonymousreply 57November 11, 2024 4:41 AM

r57 aka Teacake there is public housing in the Village.

by Anonymousreply 58November 11, 2024 4:43 AM

R58 Many have decided to drink, spend time with loved ones, smoke some weed after this election. YOU have decided to double down on anti-Teacake rhetoric.

by Anonymousreply 59November 11, 2024 4:45 AM

Hi Teacake r59! When is that OD going to happen?

by Anonymousreply 60November 11, 2024 4:47 AM

R60 When Dump has us both in that gay oven. That’s when bitch.

by Anonymousreply 61November 11, 2024 4:49 AM

Months? Too long.

by Anonymousreply 62November 11, 2024 4:50 AM

It's horrible! They don't let you have fisting parties on main street!

by Anonymousreply 63November 11, 2024 4:51 AM

I have relatives who live in rural eastern Oregon (the part that wants to secede and join Idaho). Visiting them is always a trip outside the blue bubble because a lot of their neighbors are old hippies or weed growers, and the rest is MAGA trash. Not just Trump signs, but thinly veiled white supremacy flags, signs supporting Oath Keepers and Three Percenters and I don't know what else. These are usually in front of small houses on a lot of land, filled up with old trucks, refrigerators, and all kinds of garbage on the lawn.

They drove me past one neighbor's house which was adorned with TRUMP 2024 flags, as well as the Three Percent flag and a modified "COME AND TAKE IT" flag and others with guns on them. They were lit with industrial-grade spotlights 24/7 and had very visible cameras pointed at them.

And my relatives said that the neighbors take any and every chance to shoot off machine guns and AR-15s just to make noise and show that they can.

by Anonymousreply 64November 11, 2024 7:13 PM

It's so sick r64.

by Anonymousreply 65November 11, 2024 9:03 PM

It’s like toothless blowjobs.

by Anonymousreply 66November 11, 2024 9:09 PM

MAGAs seem a lot quieter this time around, even in my red area.

by Anonymousreply 67November 11, 2024 10:58 PM

R67 I feel it too. I’m in SoCal. I think the repubs in our world who either just didn’t vote or maybe voted for him didn’t think he would actually win. I’m not talking about the under 30 crowd who still treat the world like they’re still in high school. When the fuck did that happen btw. Anyways, here in SoCal most adults even on the right are just like wow. They know this is some repugnant, ignorant shit and he should not be president.

by Anonymousreply 68November 11, 2024 11:03 PM

I'm in SoCal as well and NextDoor is filled with anecdotes about dealings with Trumpkins as well as the posts themselves.

by Anonymousreply 69November 11, 2024 11:10 PM

Retired to South Jersey, 55+, near water. I like living in my community, but step outside and you are in Trump USA. The palpable feeling of elation in the Trumpers here cannot be denied. The population here is a mix of older retired many of whom are well off, older poor, blue collar and shore trash. They ride around with their Trump emblazoned cars, wear the hats, American flags abound.

My cleaning lady is Jersey shore born and bred, she and all her friends and family voted for Trump. I had one conversation about it earlier this year. She just spewed maga talking points, mainly about illegal migrants, cost of groceries, and transgender bs. When I mentioned Trump's conviction, his other charges, J6 she said it was all cooked up by Dems. And besides, all politicians are crooks and all businessmen bend the law.

by Anonymousreply 70November 11, 2024 11:19 PM
And besides, all politicians are crooks and all businessmen bend the law.

Not to defend Trump but this is true.

by Anonymousreply 71November 11, 2024 11:41 PM

But they aren't all mentally ill and mentally incompetent like Trump R71. Trump is not just a politician: he's an existential threat to the world and that western civilization Jordan Peterson blabs acout

by Anonymousreply 72November 12, 2024 3:32 AM

OK -- here's my latest encounter.

Yesterday I went into (what they call) the Tax and Tag office to pay my property taxes, and it was crowded. Take a number and wait. I sat down in an empty chair next to what I thought was a typical white trash older woman (scraggly long blonde hair, droopy breasts with no bra, sleeveless shirt with teeny shoulder straps, and a tight skirt stretched around a big belly) and attempted to strike up a conversation to pass the time. "It's a little chilly in here, isn't it?" I said. She said with a booming and obviously male voice, "It's the government! The government screws up everything, I'm tellin' ya! The Bible says to give 10% to Ceasar, but they want a whole lot more than 10%!"

JFC! I didn't reply, and waited a few moments to get up, walk away, and look at the myriad of license plates they have hanging on the walls. It was crowded and someone very quickly went over and took the seat.

When my number was called, I went up to the counter. As I was completing my transaction, I heard some man at the end of the counter exclaiming, "Well, you give this stuff to migrants for free!" The (older, female) clerk patiently explained to him in a much softer tone that no, they do not do that -- and at that point, I stopped listening.

It's going to be bad -- very, very bad.
