I remember in the early '90s when Oprah ditched the trashy talk show format and became all spiritual and shit and suddenly she could do no wrong.
She was the new queen of daytime, which was a very big deal a the time.
Everything she touched seemed to turned to gold.
She started her book club, because in one episode she mentioned in passing a novel she was enjoying and it quickly became a bestseller.
And then Toni Morrison's BELOVED (which had a lot of hype and Oscar buzz) opened in late 1998 and flopped disastrously.
Oprah was so devastated that she admitted to eating a tub of mac & cheese that opening weekend.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 10, 2024 8:52 AM |
The story was she did a story on autoerotic asphyxiation and a viewer tried it and died and that’s when she changed the show’s format. I don’t know how true it is.

Oprah, Beyonce, Clooney, Lopez, Gaga, Swift, all the entertainment industry self-identified royalty got taken to the guillotine and had their heads removed.
Clooney is "disenchanted" and is "withdrawing from politics". He thought he was a "king maker" with his Queen of Sheba wife. The smug cunt!

Did Kamala really only say "There is not a thing that comes to mind" on The View only one month ago? It seems like years already. Few can say they contributed directly to a presidential candidate's failure, but Oprah and Sunny have done that. I'd still let Oprah trade places with any of The View harpies though.

R21 whatever the case, liberals neglected the internet until fairly recently and still relied largely on old media, whereas conservatives have utilized social media to their great benefit for the past two decades.
Liberals come off like out-of-touch fogies by comparison.

"Will you please go now, and first thing in the morning, and take down every yard sign that has my name on it? I don't have to keep them up. I've won and I don't need anybody to see them anymore, especially the others who didn't make it."
That was my mom's boyfriend who said that. He was a decent, good, friendly, quiet, confident and tough man. He had won a local board election by a pretty good margin over some other locals.
That was such a memorable moment of true class and kindness - to be a good winner.
I know that if Harris had won, I'd have done the same thing. I'd have no need to kick the losing opponent when they're down, no need to rub my neighbor's nose in it. We all know who won and who lost. My integrity wouldn't allow it.
Billionaire Oprah doesn't need my defending.
It's just that, in a way, I'm glad for the cold bucket of reality in the face that came about with the results of this election. This world isn't for me anymore. I belonged to an era that no longer exists since November 6th.
I'll still enjoy my life, but I'm glad, barring sudden fatal accident or illness, I have only a 2 or 3 decades left and I'm one of those childless ladies.

R24 That's because "feelings" don't translate to social media as well as undemonstrative impressions and perceptions do. And as we are already being inundated with Liberal meltdown videos it doesn't look like some Liberals will be learning that lesson anytime soon.

Liberals ignored social media because they controlled old media. The deep existential crisis in Hollywood right now is how to give people an excuse buy their products when they have so many other forms to entertain and distract themselves.

“Cardi B endorses Kamala!”
WHO GIVES A FLYING FUCK??
Honestly, how much of a pandering, out of touch fucking twat would the DNC’s communications wonks need to be to think that the vapid opinions of some social media famous hip hop slut would carry any sway at all!? This is how the Democrats repeatedly brand themselves as detached and clueless to the voting public. These dumb, pandering stunts only throw gasoline on the fires that the right wingers start in order to solidify the impression that Democrats are out of touch and clueless. As the saying goes, the Democrats can always be relied on to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 10, 2024 1:28 PM |
R28 Yep. I remember the Swifties practically begging for the almighty Taylor Swift endorsement ("Why don't you speak up and speak out? Don't you care about anyone but yourself?") as though she alone decided who won the election. Then when she finally made her endorsement, they thought it was a done deal and things were over for Trump. Little did they know... If there is one good thing about this Trump victory, it's seeing the Swifties get sand kicked in their face by having to admit their precious idol doesn't have as much power as they'd think. That must be a bitter pill to swallow.

by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 10, 2024 2:02 PM |
R37 But that’s what she used to do.
Celebrities were never politically powerful. Notice how it ended the moment social media started. The public got a platform and we found out not only most people don’t give a fuck, they think celebrities are dumb.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 10, 2024 2:11 PM |
R36 It was the entire year! Newsweek posted an article in January 2024 saying how influential Taylor Swift could be during the election.
She wasn’t!
As people said here, Hollywood owns the mainstream media and it’s all smoke and mirrors. It started to collapse the moment social media started and pulled back the curtain on how stupid most celebrities are.
It was known back then but there wasn’t much of a platform to talk about it.

And look at the viewer count. 1.4 million views in 24 hours.
These podcasters are rivaling mainstream media.
Kamala’s biggest mistake was not going on the Joe Rogan show. The fact that Trump went on there for 3 hours and Kamala had a list of demands just further proved what people say about the elitism.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 10, 2024 2:38 PM |
Most celebs are progressive Democrats or that’s what people think.Tuning out their endorsements is easy. Only a major celeb endorsing Trump would have gotten much buzz. And of course that would never happen.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 10, 2024 2:39 PM |
R42 They’re all owned by left mainstream media. The ones that do support Trump don’t speak out.
They just remain silent.
We know Chris Pratt is MAGA. He said nothing about this election. Had he come out and endorsed Trump, his career would be over and NOT because of the general public. He makes movies for straight white male audiences, they’d call him a hero. But his career would be over.
And as a liberal, I think it’s wrong and it exposes liberals for being hypocrites and shows that they are 100% pro-censorship despite what they say.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 10, 2024 2:45 PM |
I love, "If she would've done this, if she would've done that."
I'll leave you out of this, r41, because that's how I roll, and, basically, I'm a nice person, but a lot of these offered "If onlys" to 2nd guess Kamala are really from Trump voters who know, somewhere inside themselves, just what the negative import is of their vote for Trump.
In short, they want some reason to feel OK about voting for an obvious Piece of Shit that is Trump and "If onlys" shift it from owning their vote for him.
Well, I'm in no mood to help you with that.
It wouldn't have changed one vote in her direction if Harris would've appeared on the Joe Rogan show. Not one. I'd venture to propose it may have cost her votes to appear there.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 10, 2024 2:48 PM |
Kamala's appearance on Joe Rogan could have been the equivalent of Trump's appearance before the National Association of Black Journalists on stage in Chicago. Where the crowd was fairly hostile, some booed, he embarrassed himself at the wrong times, and few people laughed at his jokes. Importantly for him though, he came out of it just a little bit shaky but otherwise unscathed.

I think people in the media and entertainment FINALLY see that they are greatly loathed and despised by most people. People are seeing through the charade more and more. Billionaire Oprah whining about being oppressed and the aggrieved multi-millionaire fraus whining about everything and accusing everyone every morning on The View doesn't fly anymore. The fact that it has taken people so long to see the truth just goes to show how powerful propaganda is.

Speaking of paying for mass entertainment, remember how livid Trump was when it was proven his inauguration attendance was far below what Obama drew?
I don't give a shit who says my cheese is off the cracker by suggesting this because I'm sticking to it - I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility that Musk, to get warm bodies at Trump's Inauguration, pays attendees to attend and even pays for lodging.

R51, could be, but it doesn't negate the fact that the media/entertainment Almighty have been exposed and have been shown that few are buying their hypocrisy, grandiosity, deceit, and stupidity. One thing about Trump and Musk, what you see is what you get, warts and all, unpolished and unprotected by fawning and duplicitous "journalists" and media. Quite the contrary, all attempts have been made to destroy them in the media, in the courts, etc. They all lost. Trump won.

Dems failed to explained to males why democratic capitalists are better than republican capitalists. Using this exact terminology to not only destroy the whole Marxist/comunists label but also creating a conflict between these twocapitalists and evening out their standing.
It is important yo analyze their talking points and destroy it, even if costs the votes of the far left. We do not need them because we will get the votes from the young generation which loves capitalism and hate socialism.
Terminology is key and matters. All language last century political labels should be abandoned. The confrontation be liberal capitalists and illiberal capitalists must be made very clear. No body want an illiberal capitalism. These are the two terms that must be used from now on in social media and make it as mainstream as possible until politicians of both parties adopt this two terms.
No more transgender rights other than being able to change their own sex after 18 and equal opportunity in jobs and descrimination protections. Their demands should not be accepted. Society hate transgenders, the democratic capitalist party should not be a platform to promote aa certain lifestyle but to protect those that are different from discrimination and persecution.
Strict and controlled immigration, divided for two categories: one for skillful and professional individuals and other for low education ones to work in agriculture etc. Family reunionifcation visas are controlled too and only a privilege of American citizens.
No more welfare assistance to people that come sponsored by family members or that have not worked in the US for at least 3 years.
Refugees should have a real credible reason to stay in the US, and apply ( like I did 30 years ago in Cuba) in your nearest consulate and show prove (like I did) of persecution). Gays and women should have priority for refugee status.

This whole Oprah thing seems like a huge diversion from any real issue. First, we all know if Trump could've been surrounded by A-list celebrities, he absolutely would be, and his base would cheer and hoot and holler about how awesome it was.
Second Kamala was not relying on some celebrity endorsement to carry her. She campaigned all over the place, made her case all over the place in a normal way. People who want to hate Oprah can hate Oprah. Big fucking deal. It makes absolutely no difference to whether a Democrat gets elected or not. It's a horseshit issue for people looking for an easy answer that they can then pretend is the big key to victory. It's a big nothing that makes zero difference.
The thing we don't want to deal with is that a majority are clamoring for mass deportations. Some for good reasons, some for racist reasons, some maybe just for sadistic asshole reasons. But whatever the reason, they are going to get it or they are going to keep voting for it until they get it.
